inside the boardroom this has been the first run of five consecutive league matches unbeaten since the fans took over the stewardship of the Club in May 2017 A very warm welcome to the committee, supporters, players, and coaching staff of Flackwell Heath who are our visitors this afternoon. We hope they have an enjoyable afternoon and a safe journey home come the final whistle. An equally warm welcome to today’s match sponsors, The Glider and Completely Sound. Both companies are great friends of the Club and their support for both the First Team and the Under 12’s Whites, in the case of Completely Sound has been greatly appreciated. Our recent form has been very pleasing and praise is therefore due to Joe & Kyle for their achievements so far, but both will tell you that this is only the prologue of the book. There are many chapters yet to be written and a story to be told. Part of that story is our activity off the pitch. Our community work is proving to be very popular, and we’ll be looking to add additional groups and activities in the New Year. Our Walking Football team took on Luton Town FC Walking Football team last Friday in a friendly match. Despite our neighbours taking local bragging rights it was a good evening’s fun. A second leg away in Stopsley beckons. Some of you by now will have watched the video of our oldest member of the Walking Football team, 76 years young Ted Lousvet talking to DTFCTV. For Ted and many people like him walking football is an enjoyable activity which not only provides physical exercise but also a sense of community and friendship.

It’s also another great production from our social media team of Brad Cawthorne & Abby Slough. Their output has been superb and looking at the viewing figures for the interview of Ethan & Terrence its clear they have hit a rich seam of interest and are now only one short of 300 DTFCTV subscribers. It’s also a timely reminder that we are the only Fan & Community owned club in Beds, Herts and Bucks and it’s thanks to our owners that we can provide all our community activities free of charge. As Christmas approaches there has never been a better time to become an Owner of the Club and join our 83 other owners who have helped change the face of the Club. We are no longer “just a football club” we are a social enterprise determined to be a force for good in our local community. Full details on how to become a member are on our website and further on in today’s programme. Finally, please note the away match at Crawley Green on Tue 28th Dec is now a 7.45 pm kick off. We then entertain Arlesey Town at Creasey Park on Mon 3rd January, kick off 3pm. From Matt, Gary, Julian, Lee, Abby, Brad, Peter, Dan, Wayne, Sam, Joe, Kyle, Sarah, Steve, Kristy, Cupcake, Patrick, Louie, Mandy, Ken, Nick, Dave and myself, Happy Christmas, and New Year. Thank you as always for your incredible support. DUNSTABLE TOWN v Flackwell Heath - 3

Welcome to the Players, Management, Committee and supporters of Flackwell Heath. It was certainly an eye opener on the day where we were comprehensively beaten after a 2nd half collapse. I remember the game well and whilst at the time the defeat hurt, and the disappointment was raw I always try to search for positives in every negative situation. The positives came from the fact that it gave us a real clarity of where the group was and a clear understanding of where we were deficient and the need for change. This disappointment led to the additions of new players that have really improved the group. There have been multiple departures since that game that sees us with a new squad of players. I have been really pleased over the past month with our progress and feel we are going in the right direction. The buy in from the group of players continues to be outstanding. We by no means think we have cracked it and understand there is still a long way to go but the incremental improvements have been pleasing. I was delighted with our last game against Tring Athletic. Against an incredibly strong wind in the 1st half, we never really looked in trouble and were confident going in at 0-0 at half time if not a little disappointed we didn’t convert a couple of good chances. The game was an intense affair to say the least and I found a few of the incidents off the ball throughout the game rather interesting. We showed an excellent togetherness on the day, and I was proud of our group for the professional job we delivered to take a well-deserved 3 points. We were relentless in the second half and could

notes from the bench Flackwell Heath are on a good run of form having won 4 out of their last 5 league games and it is only 7 weeks since we last played them. easily have doubled the eventual score of 3-0. We need to continue to replicate that level of performance consistently over the next month. There will always be challenges in football that you can never plan for. There will be illnesses and injuries as we go, unfortunately that’s football which is why the squad is always more important than the team. The way the players have continued to apply themselves and support the 11 that start has been exemplary. We win together and lose together and that has been evident over the last 5 weeks. The competition for places continues to put players under a nice kind of pressure to perform as there are others desperate for the shirt. We sit on 11 points from the last 5 games and if we continue to replicate similar form throughout the season, we will find our league position improving further. The key message we continuously reiterate as a management team is that there is never an opportunity in this league to relax. The last time we played Flackwell Heath we got a good hiding off the back of an excellent performance at home to Leighton Town 4 days prior. It’s a warning and whilst the last 5 results have pulled us away from the bottom of the table a few bad results will have us looking over our shoulders again. There have been a couple of departures over the last few weeks in the group. I have said from day one that I don’t want anybody at the football club that believes they are doing us a favour being here. We have a great group of lads and a tight changing room and need everyone to always give 100 percent effort. A lack of reliability or not full commitment and unfortunately that leads to players being moved

flackwell-print.indd 5

on. I appreciate we are a Step 5 club but that doesn’t allow for a Step 5 mentality here if we want to achieve our long-term ambitions over the next few years. We have an honest group of players that look after themselves away from football and that will be vital during the Christmas period with points to play for. Christmas and New Year is nearly upon us, and I would like to take this opportunity to wish our excellent supporters and committee members a very Happy Christmas and New Year from Kyle Durcan and I. Myself and Kyle have loved every minute of being at this club and cannot express our gratitude enough for the way you have all embraced us since our arrival. Whilst the immediate future of the ongoing pandemic is uncertain, we are certain of our desire to bring happy days back to this great club. We are one club and without our excellent committee and supporters we simply do not have a team. I hope you all enjoy a break and will be back cheering us on against Crawley Green over the festive period. Finally, but by no means least a massive thank you to every one of our sponsors. Your sponsorship for Dunstable Town Football Club is greatly appreciated and really does do so much for us as a club. I hope to meet each of you in the New year and to keep giving you positive exposure with more positive results and performances on the pitch. Please keep yourselves safe and healthy over the festive period and let’s ensure the next year is a much happier 12 months. Enjoy today’s game and keep the great support coming. Joe

L The Heathens proved to be a major force in local football, having won twelve Wycombe League championship titles and fourteen High Wycombe Senior Challenge Cup finals. In the 1950’s Flackwell joined the Great Western Combination League and won this league twice before returning to the Wycombe League. In 1956 the club moved to its current home; the new ground being donated by the Wilks family. Through the 60s and 70’s the club continued their success on, and off field and the new clubhouse was built in 1974 as the first stage of their rise into senior football. In 1975 The Heathens won the Berks and Bucks Intermediate Cup and the Reading Senior Cup. In 1977 the club achieved Senior status and moved up into the Hellenic League Division One. Promotion to the Premier Division was achieved at the first attempt. After five seasons in this league, during which time floodlights

were installed at Wilks Park, Flackwell were elected to the Athenian League. In 1984 they joined the expanding Isthmian League. The clubs first season in this competition saw them playing in Division Two (North) and against some tough opposition they finished in a respectable eighth position. The following season Flackwell was switched to Division Two (South) where life turned out to be even tougher. At the end of season 1990-91, after finishing below mid-table, The Heathens found themselves placed in the newly formed Ryman League Division Three. At this stage the club installed a 150-seater stand to stay in senior football, and new home changing rooms were built to comply with new ground gradings. For the next 10 years the club carried out further ground improvements and they established themselves in senior football. In 2002/03 for the first time in their history Flackwell reached the 4th qualifying round of

the FA Cup losing 4-1 at home against Crawley and finished third in the newly formed Ryman League Division Two, the highest position achieved to date. In season 2004/05 The Heathens reached the 4th Qualifying Round of the FA Cup for the second time in three years, this time losing 3-0 at Ryman Premier Division Billericay Town and were runners-up in the Ryman League Associate Members Cup, losing 2-1 after extra time to Division Two champions Ilford on their own ground. Flackwell finished fourth in Ryman League Division Two in 2005/06, narrowly missing out on promotion. After the end of 2006/07 the FA reorganised the non-league pyramid and they were due to be relegated into the South Midlands Spartan League until Barking and East Ham United went out of business and they were given the opportunity to take their place in the Ryman Division One (North). Unfortunately, they finished bottom of the league and were relegated into the Hellenic Premier Division for season 2008/09. The 2014/15 season saw them gain promotion into the Southern League Division 1. However, a late move by the Southern League of them from the Central Division into the South West Division meant FHFC were unable to accept promotion and they stayed in the Hellenic League Premier Division for season 2015-16. 2014-15 also saw them with places in the final of the Berks & Bucks Trophy (losing to Windsor FC) and the High Wycombe Senior Challenge Cup (winning against Penn & Tylers Green FC). Earlier that season they reached the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup losing to Conference side Weston Supermare 4-1. For the first time in club history, they also reached the last sixteen of the FA Vase losing 3-2 to Shaw Lane Aquaforce.

After Graham Malcolm’s decision to move to Spain, Paul Shone took over the managerial role assisted by Sean Kelleher. Unfortunately, this combination did not work out and in November 2017 they were replaced by Marcus Richardson, formerly of Highmoor Ibis FC, assisted by Fabian Coultress. Marcus had to start rebuilding the team from scratch, bringing in lots of young players and former Youth team players. That season the team finished a respectable 5th, following with 8th position in 2018/19. The past 2 seasons have been limited by Covid-19 restrictions with our 2019/20 season finish of 9th, with games in hand, being declared null and void. The past season was similarly curtailed, leaving FHFC top of the Hellenic League having only lost one game. However, FA promotions and restructuring using a points per game system saw them finishing 4th over the previous 2 seasons, thereby missing out on promotion for 2021/22. The restructuring has seen them take up a place in the Spartan South Midlands League, Premier Division. This disappointment was tempered by a very successful run in the 2020/21 FA Vase. FHFC reached the Quarter Finals for the 1st time in their history finally losing to US Portsmouth FC 2-0.

2015/16 season under the continued management of Graham Malcolm assisted by Paul Shone saw them finish 3rd in the Hellenic League also winning 3 cup finals – the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy (against Newport Pagnell FC), the Uhlsport Challenge Cup (against Brackley Town Saints) and the Wycombe Senior Cup (against Pitstone and Ivinghoe).

MATCH REPORT saturday 4th december • SSMfl premier division creasey park • attendance 168 that they did not receive similar sanction and punishment.

Tring Athletic are managed by former Dunstable Town Assistant manager, Ryan Sturges. “Sturge” had selected a team which consisted of four former Dunstable players. However, there was no fairytale return for them as Dunstable, superbly marshalled in the middle of the park by skipper, Jamie Nicholls, helped make a bit of history for the only Community / Fan owned club in the whole of Beds, Herts, and Bucks.

The second half was only 10 minutes old, and Dunstable had the ball in the back of the net twice. The Assistant Referee raised his flag to chalk off one effort but stayed down when Terrence Muchineripi volleyed home an inch perfect cross from Dylan Baker, out on the far left, to put the Blues deservedly one up. It was a sublime finish and is an early contender for goal of the season. Had it been the only goal of the afternoon it would have been a worthy winner; however Dunstable now had the bit between their teeth and with the winds at their backs scored again 10 minutes later.

Saturday’s victory was not only the first time since the Club became fan run that a team had been beaten home and away, but it’s also the first 5 game unbeaten run in the same period.

Dan Naylor’s corner from the right was met powerfully by Joe Sellers-West who headed the ball down low and hard and gave Saunders no chance.

J’Ardell Stirling, a mid-week signing from Wingate & Finchley started in the centre of the defence and played with the assurance and authority you would expect from someone who has been playing two divisions higher.

Tring were overrun in midfield & lacked potency up front and rarely troubled Gould in the second half.

There was needle and cynical tactics at play in the first half. With the wind at their backs, this was the half that Tring needed to go into the break in front. However Dan Gould wasn’t really tested and it was Tring custodian, David Saunders who needed to be at his best to keep his goal intact, pulling off a couple of great saves to keep the scores level at half time. Tring left back, Adam Sawyer needed to be replaced following a clash of heads. Referee Elliot Meyer brandished a yellow card at Benji Gray. Others will consider themselves fortunate

Looking to improve their goal difference, Kelvin Ossei-Addo replaced Jamie Nicholls for the final 15 minutes. And it was Ossei-Addo who supplied the telling pass for Kyle Faulkner to bury the ball home from close range with 5 minutes left on the clock. There was still time for Ossei-Addo to try and get his name on the score sheet but Saunders was alert to his forays on goal. The final whistle was met with an appreciative roar of approval from the Dunstable faithful who applauded both teams off the pitch. DUNSTABLE TOWN v Flackwell Heath - 31

Spot the Ball - A Guess the Player - Jamie Nicholls

Creasey Park was bitterly cold with a fierce wind chilling to the bone. It made playing conditions difficult and sent some spectators without the requisite layers of thermals home early to avoid developing frostbite.

on this day

in footbal history..

18 December 1921 - The Poles Get In Position On 18 December 1921, Poland played their first official international, a 1-0 loss to Hungary. It was a humble start for a team that would later claim an Olympic gold medal and twice finish in third place at the World Cup.

Poland’s greatest achievement came at the 1972 Summer Olympics, when they won the gold medal with a 2-1 victory over Hungary. They followed that performance with a thirdplace finishes at the 1974 and 1982 World Cups.

The Polish national team was only 2 years old when they lost to Hungary, having been founded in December 1919. And it would take another 5 months before they recorded their first victory, beating Sweden 2-1 in Stockholm. By the 1930s, however, they had improved rapidly, led by prolific goalscorer Ernst Wilimowski (pictured, with the ball). Even without Wilimowski, who was suspended for a year for excessive partying, Poland nearly medalled at the 1936 Summer Olympics, finishing fourth after wins over Hungary and Great Britain.
