inside the boardroom I was hugely pleased with the players’ performance on Saturday and just as relieved when Stuart Smith, blew the final whistle It’s a pleasure to welcome the coaching, playing staff, committee, and supporters from Holmer Green FC to Creasey Park this evening. As always, we hope all our visitors have an enjoyable evening and wish them a safe journey home come the final whistle. Oxhey Jets provided first class opposition, and like us are now adjusting to life with a new coaching team and a new group of players. It’s been a busy few weeks since Joe and Kyle took over and I do want to pay tribute to them for the exemplary manner they have conducted themselves and gone about the far from easy task of saying “goodbye and thank you for your service” to several players who we’ve moved on to other clubs in the last few days. Tyler Fry has signed for Crawley Green, Jimmy Hartley for London Colney, and Sam Gibson, Enoch Mensah, and Joseph Debayo for Kempston Rovers. In addition, they have embraced our philosophy of being a community run club and as we adapt to life as a social enterprise it’s been gratifying to see everyone getting on board with what we’re trying to do and giving us their full support.
after the final whistle tonight we are expecting Tracey Crouch MP to publish the results of her season long Fan led review into the running and governance of football. The report is expected to make many recommendations for clubs throughout the pyramid to have greater supporter representation and involvement. The FSA has contributed heavily to the report concerning many areas it tackled. Before I finish a quick word to remind you that Ian, Scottie, Aaron, Dean and Peter will be walking 20km on Saturday to our away match at Harpenden. It’s all in a good cause and every penny raised will go to the Blues 4 – 5K L&D appeal www.crowdfunder.co.uk/dtfc The following Saturday we are at home to Tring Athletic. We’re hoping Clovis and his team from Jamaica Mi Crazy will be back on site to cook up some Caribbean treats. Please support both Clovis and the Creasey Park bar. Enjoy tonight’s match and thanks as always for your wonderful support. Andrew
The squad has been trimmed down to just 21 players and you’ll notice players wearing shirts bearing their squad numbers now in future matches. The number of Owners topped 70 at the weekend with two new members joining. I attended the Football Supporters’ Association (FSA) AGM on Friday evening and shortly DUNSTABLE TOWN v holmer green - 3

from the bench We come into the game in a much healthier position than six weeks ago that has seen us get back-to-back wins Welcome to the Management, players, committee, and supporters from Holmer Green ahead of tonight’s clash. I have been delighted with our recruitment over the last 6 weeks and we look a different side to how we did when we took the job. We still have a long, long way to go but we are encouraged by the early signs. Saturday’s game was a good test against Oxhey Jets who came into the game as one of the leagues form teams. They set up with a mid and low block for a vast majority of the game. We felt we should have been 2 or 3 ahead at half time and Kyle and I spoke about the need to remain calm and patient at half time. It can often be very easy to get frustrated when we have so much of the ball and go in 0-0 at half time. Full credit again to the players for the way they took the technical and tactical detail into the 2nd half. I was delighted for Joe Sellers-West to get the goal as last week he didn’t score but made 2 for us. As with any 1-0 margin in games, we had to absorb pressure in the second half. They hit the bar on a few occasions and some heroic defending from Joe Mead on the line ensured we got a much sought-after clean sheet. We also had chances to extend our lead in the second half, but it finished 1-0 much to our delight.
that continues then we have a lot to look forward to. It’s 2 wins and 2 pleasing performances however none of us are getting carried away. The moment in football you begin to think you have cracked it is often when things go downhill. We are fully aware there are no easy games in this league and if we are to build success then we need to ensure our performance levels are correct every week. We are really enjoying the job and thank all the supporters and our wonderful committee for their continued support. It was only just over 3 weeks ago they were offering words of support after our 5-0 defeat at Flackwell Heath. I personally will never forget those moments and it is vital we don’t get too carried away off the back of 2 good results. We hope you enjoy the game this evening. Joe
Every player once again on Saturday gave everything and every player deserved the praise, they got post-match. We need to back that up again tonight in what will be a very tough game against Holmer Green. The changing room is a different place, there is a great togetherness amongst the players and if DUNSTABLE TOWN v holmer green - 5

Originally founded in 1908, Holmer played initially in The Chesham and District League.

L Matches were played at Campbell’s Meadow, (now the Rosetti Estate), close to a tennis racket factory. Sometime before 1934 the Club moved to Holmer Green Common and set up headquarters in The Bat and Ball. In 1934 the Club switched to The Wycombe Combination League. The first trophy won by Holmer Green was The Chesham Charity Cup in 1939, the first of 28 Cups and Championships won thus far by the 1st XI. The early 70’s saw the start of a very successful thirty years in the Club’s history. Holmer Green moved to their present ground, Watchet Lane, in 1975 when the new Holmer Green Sports Association pavilion was fully ready. Holmer won The Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup in 1976-77. Senior Status was thus achieved and since then the Club has striven to play at the highest level possible for a strictly amateur club. The Club, through current President John Anderson, was heavily involved in the moves
that set up The Chiltonian League in 1984. That League embraced clubs from no less than six different counties. Holmer had been very successful in the Chiltonian, and believed that a move to a better run league, where the clubs were encouraged to improve facilities, should be the next step. The Chiltonian were reluctant to lose their “flagship” club and tried to stop the move to the The South Midlands League. Not until August 1995 did Holmer Green, through the FA’s appeal system, successfully, switch Leagues.
M
This move gave Holmer Green the impetus to finally erect a Stand, now called The Don Want Stand in honour of their former long-serving groundsman who still helps out with his time and expertise, on a regular basis. In 2014 Don was presented with some mementos to mark his 50 years with the Football Club.
G
Premier Division status was achieved in 1999 after winning the Senior Division twice in

four seasons, being 2nd and 4th in between. Floodlights were erected. Centenary events started with a visit from a full Wycombe Wanderers team in July 2007 when the ground record of over 800 was recorded. In 2008 the Senior Club formally merged with Holmer Green Minors FC to become “One Club” and this occasion coincided with the new Club as a whole being named “Club of the Year 2008” by Bucks & Milton Keynes Sports Partnership. Season 2008-09 was Holmer’s 10th successive one in the Premier Division. After an unexpectedly long stay in the Premier Division, Holmer were demoted to Division One for season 200910, despite avoiding the relegation positions. Work immediately began to regain the “F” Grading required for Step 5 football to return to Watchet Lane. The 1st XI won the First Division by three points in 2009-10 losing only 3 of 40 games. The coveted “F” Grading was achieved again in 2011.
Manager Chris Allen, who was appointed in 2009, kept the regained Step 5 status for another incredible nine seasons before stepping down in May 2019, with Holmer having gained enough points by early March. By this time the Club had been moved, most unwillingly, into the geographically ridiculous Hellenic League. Chris’ successor, Dave Lynch, resigned after a poor start in August and September 2019. Matt Stowell succeeded Lynch, and results turned before the season was ended due to Covid-19. Matt continued to rebuild for 2020-21 with a seventh place when the season was again terminated early. The club were very happily returned to The Spartan South Midlands League in Summer 2021, with Matt continuing in charge. This return “home” means local games with Aylesbury Vale Dynamos, Tring Athletic, Harefield United, Leighton Town, Leverstock Green, Oxhey Jets, and Dunstable Town.

MATCH REPORT saturday 20th November Dunstable Town 1-0 Oxhey Jets After a comprehensive win at London Colney last weekend, the Blues won out again, with a touch of luck involved in Joseph Sellers-West’s second-half goal. Luck doesn’t win matches though unless it’s backed up with hard work and skill. The first half was a very even affair, but early chances arrived for Town. Dan Trif made good ground in the opening stages, cutting inside the Oxhey right-back, but with nobody in support he was forced to shoot from a tight angle, harmlessly into the side netting. Kyle Faulkner then forced a great save with a long-range rocket that would have dipped under the crossbar but for the efforts of the visiting goalkeeper, Bradley Shaw. The home side didn’t have it all their own way, and Kyal Williams looked pacy and lively down the left for Oxhey, but ultimately couldn’t break down the Dunstable backline. Town created further chances before half time, the best of which came from a ball across the face of the goal which Sellers-West was stretching to reach. The ball got trapped under his foot, but persistence saw him eventually force a close range save from Shaw, before then cutting the ball back for Faulkner in the middle of the box, but with defensive reinforcements arriving, his shot was well blocked on the goal line. Sellers-West continued to impress and was only prevented from a goalscoring opportunity by a perfectly timed last-ditch tackle from Ferrell Charles, who looked assured throughout.
Dunstable on the back foot, creating the first chance of the half from a cross to the near post which was poked narrowly wide. With four minutes played of the second half, Terence Muchineripi received the ball in the box, and played the ball to Sellers-West, who found the space for a shot from the edge of the box. He was closed down by the defender, but saw his shot take a heavy deflection, completely wrongfooting Shaw as it looped into the goal to give the Blues the lead. Oxhey didn’t roll over though and came close to levelling with two excellent long-range efforts, both of which crashed off the crossbar before being cleared to safety. In a second half that felt like it lasted for hours, Sellers-West continued to provide the attacking intent which eventually earned him the man of the match award and came close to doubling the lead when he beat his marker to a pacy cross, sending his shot inches wide of the near post. Substitute Benji Gray came close late on, when his looping free kick into the box evaded everyone from both sides and bounced up onto the top of the goalpost before the referee awarded a free kick as the efforts to turn it in ensued. An attendance of 148 willed the Blues to hold on, and after an extended period of time added on, the Blues got a well-deserved three points ahead of Tuesday’s visit from Holmer Green. Patrick MacKay

dunstable town under 14s lions new sponsor It was great to have our under 12s Phoenix team with us on Saturday, as well as a mixture of our under 10s Tigers, 12s Lions, totalling 17 mascots, it was a great occasion and what a performance from the team winning 1-0 against Oxhey Jets. Talking to some first team players they said having the mascots and the Regiment behind
the goal makes a huge difference, so we will do our best to keep the atmosphere around the ground and keep the mascots flowing. Also it was great to see our champions from last season, the under 14s Lions all kitted out in their new gear kindly sponsored by the Steven Eagell Group, so a big thank you to them.

23 November 2002 - Figo’s Unhappy Return On 23 November 2002, former Barcelona hero Luis Figo returned to Camp Nou for only the second time since his controversial move to Real Madrid two years earlier. It did not go well. Figo joined Barça in 1995 and quickly became a fan favorite, winning two league titles and the 1997 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in his five seasons there. In 2000, Real Madrid lured him away for the then-world record fee of £37.2 million. The move did not sit well with the Barcelona faithful, who regarded the move to Madrid as the ultimate betrayal.
emotions had risen to the point where people in the stands were throwing things at him, including plastic bottles, cans, and lighters. Someone even threw the head of a piglet and one of a rooster. The situation grew so bad that the referee stopped the match for 16 minutes before allowing it to continue. It ended as a scoreless draw, leaving nobody satisfied.
When Figo returned to Camp Nou in his first season with Real Madrid, he was subjected to taunts and jeers, but that was nothing compared to his appearance in 2002. By then, he had won La Liga and the Champions League with his new club, intensifying the state of the rivalry. By the time he prepared to take a late corner,
