Welcome to the management, players, supporters, and everyone associated with Holmer Green ahead of this afternoon’s FA Vase game. Holmer Green were something of a nemesis for us last season which I hope finishes today. A 2-2 home draw in the league early into my tenure followed by a 2-1 defeat away from home later in the season. Any supporters that witnessed us that day and saw my reaction at full time were in no doubt about my feelings. I remember that game like it was yesterday, and it certainly doesn’t provide me with fond memories!
The 2nd half showing at Holmer Green confirmed what I already knew was how critical our recruitment needed to be in the summer. I must give full credit to our directors that gave us the resources to attract a better calibre of player in the summer months. There has been no interference, only unwavering support and any manager will know how vital that is. The support we receive as a group has been impeccable since we took the job.
Despite us being a step higher I assure you all that this game is going to be a tough one. I’ve said it so many times since we took over that the gap between Step 6 and Step 4 is minimal and anyone can beat anyone on their day. If we turn up and perform like we are capable of then we give ourselves a great chance of progressing. If we turn up below par, then we will not be in the competition past today and it really is as simple as that! Wembley awaits the best 2 teams in the competition so let’s hope it’s us!
Another home game awaits us which is always something the players and me enjoy. Our pitch has been fantastic this season and the atmosphere has been excellent for home games which was personified on Tuesday evening. There was an excellent buzz around the place. I felt we were great value for the win on Tuesday night.
I watched our lads in the warm-up and there was a laser like focus and the dressing room prior to going out was intense and it showed from the moment the game kicked off. The intensity at
“holmer green were something of a nemesis for us last season. a 2-2 home draw, followed by a 2-1 defeat away from home later in the season.”
which we started the game was superb, we pressed aggressively, moved the ball at a tempo which we demand and had Shefford Town & Campton on the back foot. Man of the Match Luke Dunstan was outstanding from start to finish and opened the scoring with an excellent strike. I was gutted for Luke on Saturday with the red card so early into his debut. Everyone now has a clear understanding of the player we have bought in. Harry Beaumont led the team as Captain and was superb throughout both with and without the ball. Terrence Muchineripi was moved into midfield and once again delivered an excellent performance. Liam McCrohan, Kyle Davison-Gordon, J’Ardell Stirling, and Ethan Creary were once again excellent at the back. It speaks volumes of the 4 of them that they have been so reliable that any errors they make now shocks people. They have been a real catalyst for our start to the season in front of Charlie Jones who once again turned in a superb performance. Goals win games, goalkeepers and defenders win you trophies.
Our front 2 of Kyle Faulkner and Joe Sellers-West were exhilarating at times. They have forged an excellent partnership and continue to improve and develop their overall game. Whilst Kyle didn’t get the goal his performance deserved; he was excellent once again. His work without the ball and hold up play has got better and better each week since his arrival. Joe SellersWest turned in another outstanding performance. His composure, ball retention and creativity throughout the game was top class. His desire to attack the ball and rifle the header high into the net was deserved. Joe followed that up with a superb cross and Dylan Baker who once again was impressive scored a header at the back post. It wasn’t just the 11 players that started that delivered.
The impact players played a big part in seeing the game through and getting a well-deserved win. The unselfish work Kelvin Osei-Addo, Remell Stirling and Dan Naylor on his welcome return didn’t go unnoticed. The yards they covered to ensure we kept our shape and kept the 3-goal margin really typifies the mentality of the squad. Connor Coulson and Ruairi Mills didn’t get the minutes they would have wanted on Tuesday night but handled themselves impeccably well. Both players didn’t sulk instead choosing to put the team before themselves. Both will get their minutes and chances this season.
Despite me being full of praise for the group in the last 3 games let me assure you that no one within the management or playing staff is getting carried away. I’m experienced enough to know that if we get carried away and start believing our own hype then the next 9 games could see the opposite records.
Holmer Green have endured a difficult league start and with a change in management structure makes them a very dangerous opponent. League tables, divisions, recent form count for nothing when it comes to cup ties. The most important thing for us is to ensure we are in the draw for the next round and another step closer to Wembley!
I have no doubts we will backed by a passionate and vocal crowd once again today. It makes a huge difference to me and the players. It’s great to see such a blend in the crowd, both young and the more experienced kind! The support is becoming more and more fanatical, and the Creasey Roar is becoming more powerful by the week.
Enjoy today’s game.
Good afternoon, everyone & welcome to Creasey Park for today’s match in the 2nd Round Qualifying of the Isuzu FA Vase against Holmer Green FC. Our opponents are based near High Wycombe and last season took four points from us despite being relegated to Division 1 of the SSMFL at the end of the season.
A special warm welcome to the coaching staff, players, committee, and supporters of The Greens. We hope they enjoy the afternoon in our company and have a safe journey home come the final whistle.
The last week has seen us play some wonderful and exciting football in both games against London Colney and Shefford Town & Campton. We’ve scored nine goals and conceded two. The atmosphere you’ve all created has been electric and the addition of
the junior Regiment behind the goal on Tuesday night was really appreciated by the players.
There were a couple of milestones in there, Kyle Faulkner got a hat trick on Saturday and there were first goals for the Club for Kyle Davison-Gordon, J’Ardell Stirling & Luke Dunstan, who scored a screamer on Tuesday night from the tightest of angles.
Tuesday night’s gate of 178 was really pleasing and I’m especially delighted to see the return of some supporters who haven’t been for a while and getting to meet several new supporters.
The word is spreading that Joe & Kyle have put together a squad of players who are capable of challenging for honours this season and who, on their day, will give anyone a decent game of football. Consistency is the key and being able to grind out results even
“we have now received planning permission to site a portacabin by the far corner flag. the portacabin will serve as the clubs Community Benefit society hq”
when you’re not playing particularly well the other key component for a side to be truly successful.
Hopefully as the season progresses and games come thick and fast, we will see the benefit of all the countless hours of preparation and planning that Joe & the management team, spend meticulously preparing for each match.
Yesterday evening our Walking Football team were officially presented with their new kit by Michael Watts, Community Champion for Asda Dunstable.
Photos of the presentation will feature in the next matchday programme, but our huge thanks go to Michael and his colleagues from the Asda Foundation not only for their sponsorship of the kit but also for their ongoing support for our two other community groups, Sphere at the Glider and Chums and Crumbs.
On Thursday night I had the privilege of representing the Club along with fellow Directors, Kristy Lewington & Dan Roberts at the Beds FA annual awards presentation with the Club being awarded Grassroots Club of the Year for a second consecutive year.
On Wednesday night our U18’s battled hard against a strong Oxhey Jets side who won in convincing style 5-2 on the night. There’s some exciting news coming from the U18’s camp in the next few days which we’re all very excited about, so keep an eye out for that on our social media platforms. We have now received planning permission to site a portacabin between the Aaron Bateman stand and the ground staff building by the far corner flag. The portacabin will serve as the Clubs Community Benefit Society HQ and will enable us to add to the number
of groups and activities we offer local people as part of our Improving the Lives of Others programme.
I’m truly indebted to the input of fellow Directors, Neil Barker, Gary Levy & Creasey Park, Facility Manager, James Slack in getting us to where we are now in the process.
It’s been a long process of over 15 months but we’re now seeing light at the end of the tunnel and with it the opportunity to introduce the Club and the social enterprise model we represent to a bigger audience than we do at present.
I do need to ask you all to keep an eye on our social media platforms on matchday for advice on parking on matchdays. I know none of you need to be reminded of the awful incident that occurred in the recent AFC match v Hertford Town.
We’re working collaboratively with James Slack & his team and AFC Dunstable on safety protocols and procedures. Please park considerately and only in designated bays and for midweek matches please use the overflow car park. The walkway at the top left-hand corner of the overflow car park is safe, floodlit and less than a minutes’ walk from the ground.
A final word of thanks to Jeff, Mark & Dean aka the Three Drunken Amigos for their very generous sponsorship of today’s match.
Thank you as always for your incredible support. Enjoy the game and look forward to welcoming you back to Creasey Park in two weeks’ time when Leighton Town are our visitors.
Holmer Green is a village in the civil parish of Little Missenden, in Buckinghamshire, England. It is next to Hazlemere, about 3 miles (5 km) south of Great Missenden.
Holmer Green is named after the manor of Holmer that covered a significant part of the parish of Little Missenden in the Middle Ages. The early history of the village is essentially one of people moving out of Little Missenden over the centuries and settling on a large area of heath (now vanished) known as Wycombe Heath or Holmer Heath.
The ‘Holmer’ part of the toponym was first recorded as Holeme in 1208 and is probably derived from Old English. It is commonly thought to derive from ‘mere in a hollow’ which would refer to Holmer Pond. However, there are certain factors that do not support this theory and the -mer element may translate to an Old English word meaning ‘boundary’. The ‘Green’ part of the name refers to a large and ancient Green, probably dating from the 13th century that used to exist here but was reduced to a size of only 4 acres in 1854.
In the hundred years between 1850 and 1950, the village became well known locally for its cherry orchards, and there remain many references to orchards and cherries in road names and house names. In 2008 the village formally celebrated 800 years of recorded settlement.
The sporting activities hosted by the Holmer Green Sports Association (HGSA) are an important feature of village life. Football is particularly
popular and well-established nonleague football team Holmer Green FC celebrated its centenary in 2008 and there are numerous football teams for all age groups – male and female – that play on the four scaled football pitches and two mini pitches.
The grounds and facilities at HGSA in Watchet Lane have been used to host training sessions for England teams and for Wycombe Wanderers and have recently been awarded FA Community Charter status. Football matches and training sessions for some village teams are also held on The Common.
Other sports at HGSA include a Tennis club and facilities consisting of three tennis courts; a Squash club and courts; a Cricket club and cricket square; and a Short Mat Bowls club with a 3-rink outdoor green.
The football club was founded in 1908, Holmer played initially in The Chesham and District League. Matches were played at Campbell’s Meadow, (now the Rosetti Estate), close to a tennis racket factory. Sometime before 1934 the Club moved to Holmer Green Common and set up headquarters in The Bat and Ball. In 1934 the Club switched to The Wycombe Combination League. The first trophy won by Holmer Green was The Chesham Charity Cup in 1939, the first of 28 Cups and Championships won thus far by the 1st XI.
The early 70s saw the start of a very successful thirty years in the Club’s history. Holmer Green moved to their present ground, Watchet Lane, in 1975 when the new Holmer Green
Sports Association pavilion was fully ready. Holmer won The Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup in 1976-77. Senior Status was thus achieved and since then the Club has striven to play at the highest level possible for a strictly amateur club.
The Club was heavily involved in the moves that set up The Chiltonian League in 1984. That League embraced clubs from no less than six different counties. Holmer had been very successful in the Chiltonian, and believed that a move to a better run league, where the clubs were encouraged to improve facilities, should be the next step. The Chiltonian were reluctant to lose their “flagship” club and tried to stop the move to the The South Midlands League. Not until August 1995 did Holmer Green, through the FA’s appeal system, successfully, switch Leagues.
This move gave Holmer Green the impetus to finally erect a Stand, now called The Don Want Stand in honour of the late former long-serving Groundsman, President, and Chairman. In 2014 Don was presented with some mementos to mark his 50 years with the Football Club. He passed away in 2022 Premier Division status was achieved in 1999 after winning the Senior Division
twice in four seasons, being 2nd and 4th in between. Floodlights were erected. Centenary events started with a visit from a full Wycombe Wanderers team in July 2007 when the ground record of over 800 was recorded.
In 2008 the Senior Club formally merged with Holmer Green Minors FC to become “One Club” and this occasion coincided with the new Club as a whole being named “Club of the Year 2008” by Bucks & Milton Keynes Sports Partnership.
Season 2008-09 was Holmer’s 10th successive one in the Premier Division. After an unexpectedly long stay in the Premier Division, Holmer Green was demoted to Division One for season 2009-10, despite avoiding the two relegation positions.
Work immediately began to regain the “F” Grading required for Step 5 football to return to Watchet Lane. The 1st XI won the First Division by three points in 2009-10 losing only 3 of 40 games. The coveted “F” Grading was achieved again in 2011.
Manager Chris Allen, who was appointed in 2009, kept the regained Step 5 status for another incredible nine seasons before stepping down in May 2019, with Holmer having gained enough points by early March. By this time the Club
had been moved, most unwillingly, into the geographically ridiculous Hellenic League. Chris’ successor, Dave Lynch, resigned after a poor start in August and September 2019. Matt Stowell succeeded Lynch, and results turned before the season was ended due to Covid-19. Matt continued to rebuild for 2020-21 with a seventh place when the season was again terminated early. The club were very happily returned to The Spartan South Midlands League in Summer 2021, with Matt continuing in charge. But a series of poor results including three or four very heavy defeats lead to Matt’s resignation in early December 2021. Assistant Manager, and then Physio, Tom Bryant took over in the meantime, with assistance from experienced ex-Player and ex-Manager Jez Hodges.
This return meant local games and more importantly, no away trips over an hour away! Unfortunately, Holmer slipped into the relegation position on the last day of the season and another stint at Step 5 came to an end. Worse news was to follow as the FA’s push to “perfect” the non-league pyramid has created a situation where some leagues have more travelling in the lower division.
The Greens now face games as far away as Lutterworth in Leicestershire, and Rugby in Warwickshire, as well as a handful of games in Northamptonshire. Tom Bryant was appointed Manager, but left Holmer Green in the August after a series of poor results. Jez Hodges has again taken up the reins on an interim basis, with help from others already closely connected with the club.

A very healthy crowd of 178 witnessed an excellent game of football on Tuesday evening under the floodlights.
Joe Deeney’s side triumphing by 4 goals to 1 and, but for the woodwork the score line could have been more emphatic. Shefford had deservedly won in the Emirates FA Cup against the Blues two weeks earlier but did not look like repeating the feat on a mild and windless evening.
Dunstable played with a spring in their step and a fire in their belly which their opponents could not counter. Harry Beaumont wore the Captain’s armband with Alfie Osborne unavailable. Beaumont took to his task with confidence and led the side superbly.
Shefford had claimed the scalp of Step 4 Grays Athletic away from home in the Emirates FA Cup 72 hours earlier in a deserved victory which sees them progress into the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history and an inviting tie against Anstey Nomads on the 1st October.
The Blues sprang out of the traps and were ahead as early as the 6th minute with new man Luke Dunstan firing in from what seemed an impossible angle. Luke will miss the next three matches due to suspension, but he was everywhere during the 90 minutes and deservedly won the man of the match award.
The Blues pressed hard, and Kyle Faulkner was denied by Kyle Forster in the Shefford twice in the first 20 minutes. However, there was nothing Forster could do to keep out J’Ardell Stirling’s first goal for the Club on 25 minutes.
The Bluemen came back into the game on the stroke of half time with a wellworked goal scored by Scott Metcalfe following good work by Henry Snee, who had been so influential in the first game. But as we had seen three days earlier when London Colney had got a goal back, it only seemed to galvanise Dunstable into stepping up the offensive pressure.
Joe Sellers-West was denied by the post with a fierce drive and wave after wave of blue shirts surged forward. They got their reward when the powerful head of Sellers-West, met a superb corner from out on the right which was too powerful for Forster or his defenders to do much about.
Five minutes later and it was effectively game over. Sellers-West was this time the provider, linking up well with Ethan Creary on the right-hand side, Sellers-West crossed, and Dylan Baker, somehow managed to get his head to the ball before his defender and power it beyond Forster’s reach.
That was the end of the nights scoring but Kelvin Osei-Addo saw his powerfully hit penalty in stoppage time hit the foot of the post and bounce to safety.
The victory lifts the Blues up to sixth place with games in hand over other clubs.
It’s now thirteen goals in the past three home games but Blues boss, Joe Deeney warned against complacency and reminded everyone of the long season ahead where there will be bumps on the road.
The game began in a scrappy way with the ball bouncing around and no one gaining control of the game. The two styles of play were obvious: Town wanting to play and dominate on the ball and Flitwick looking to get the ball forwards, into the channels, to turn the defence and play on the counter attack.
Town moved the ball well through the phases. However, in the 21st minute, against the run of play, Town went behind. The ball was allowed to bounce and the Flitwick striker lofted the ball over Cookie.
This did not change the pattern of Town’s play and with the clock counting down to half time Town found an equaliser. The ball went to Josh and he rolled the ball in to the corner from a central position. It was the least Town deserved. Flitwick started the second half brightly, but Charlie played squared to Joe.
He put a delicious ball to Josiah, who gambled, ran on to it and rifled the ball home, with his left foot, to give Town the lead.
Flitwick pressed high and this led to their equaliser. The game descended onto a midfield battle with neither dominating possession nor controlling the game.
However, with 16 minutes to go, Town managed to get the winner. A corner was not cleared, Ben got a knee on the bouncing ball and diverted it to Josiah, who drilled down on the ball to find the side netting. Flitwick appealed for handball, but the referee was unmoved. The goal stood.
There was still a long time to go, but Town stood firm and saw the game out for a vital win.
Goals: Josh (1), Josiah (2)

With only 7 games taking place this week, it gave a few sides some headaches. Third placed Betty Swallocks leapt into top spot, accruing 63 and climbing over Swannies XI and AFC Crilldog.
Jake Fox-Nania, Dan Rhodes, Oluwaseun Orimogunje and Owen McConnell also had decent point hauls, all in the 60s, pushing them all into the top third of the table
Team of the week is Rebels Wivoutta Clue managed by Richard Scott who scored 71 points, climbing to 8th in the table. Hotel? Thiago. Abeergut
The FA Vase is the best domestic tournament we have. Perhaps a slightly controversial statement but there’s few other tournaments where there is such an open field of teams that are competing at similar levels both in terms of the resources and finances.
The incentive of a day out at Wembley is a great incentive to all sides and in recent years, with a decline in the domination of the teams from the Northern League, it has provided us with a hatful of new names of clubs hoping to use the competition as a stepping stone to greater things.
In the last seven competitions, eleven of the fourteen finalists have since been promoted to Step 4 or above, including 2021 finalists Warrington Rylands and Binfield. Despite the pressure of fixture pile ups, it seems that building a winning momentum on the way to Wembley aids rather than abets league form for clubs.
The Northern League sides have dominated the competition for many years, primarily due to the strength of the sides in that league who for many years rejected the chance to move up the pyramid.
From 2009 to 2017, the competition was won by a Northern League side, with the only exception being in 2014 when West Auckland Town lost to Sholing. Since 2017, with promotion mandatory from the Northern League to Step 4, four of the five winners have come from areas outside of the Northeast. However, it was the southern-based sides who had initial success after the
tournament was launched back in 1974. The first winners were Hoddesdon Town, currently playing in the Essex Senior League before Billericay Town won three out of the next four tournaments. There’s even been two current league sides who have played in the final at Wembley Stadium - Forest Green Rovers in 1982 and Fleetwood Town in 1985.
In financial terms, past performance is no guarantee to future success, but there’s certainly one or two clubs that are still in the competition that could make an appearance at Steps 3 and 4 in the coming years although the last round saw some of the bigger teams make surprise exits including Clapton, Stotfold, Potton United and Ardley United.
Last year’s final saw Littlehampton Town play Newport Pagnell Town at Wembley. Bizarrely, Littlehampton Town re-entered the competition in the fourth round after losing 5-0 to Athletic Newham. The London based side had fielded an ineligible player and were thrown out of the competition, seeing the Golds reinstated to play and beat Brockenhurst in the fifth round.
The Sussex side went on to beat Loughborough Students 4-0 in their semi-final, played in front of a club record crowd of over 3,000.
On a sunny day at Wembley, Newport Pagnell Town were too strong for Littlehampton Town, who let the occasion get to them and ran out 3-0 winners in front of 14,000 supporters and collected a bumper cheque for £30,000.

Whitchurch is a town in the borough of Basingstoke and Deane in Hampshire. It is situated on the River Test, 13 miles south of Newbury, 12 miles north of Winchester and 12 miles west of Basingstoke. Due to the amount of wildlife around the River Test, its course and banks are designated as a site of special scientific interest. Local groundhopping celebrity Vinny Goodfield has a fond attachment to Whitchurch United FC and lives three minutes from the ground. During the night of 7 February 2018, Henri de Portal’s former paper mill, Bere Mill, which had been converted into a family home, was destroyed by a major fire. The football club was established in 1903 following a merger of Whitchurch Rovers and Whitchurch Albion. In 1958 the club joined the Hampshire League. Success came in 1989-90 when, having won Division Two, promotion was secured to Division One. In 1991-92
the club was promoted to the Wessex League. Relegation in 1993-94 was followed by an immediate promotion the following season. The club play their home matches at Longmeadow. A midweek jaunt to Hampshire was facilitated by the offer of a lift (much appreciated Phil). The journey via A10 and M25 and M3 to Whitchurch, was punctuated when we detoured to Hanworth to collect the Fridge Magnet from his abode (Did not see his shedso close and yet so far!). Just an hour
the pieman (@_therealpieman) is a tottenham hotspur fan who has attended thousands of matches and hundreds of grounds throughout the united kingdom and europe. this week he visits whitchurch united fc
later and we had arrived and parked up at the ground.
With plenty of time to explore, we walked into the town centre in search of refreshment. An old part of town with some very old looking pubs! At The Bell, this Pieman enjoyed the reliable Timothy Taylor Landlord Bitter. However, when travelling to different places, I usually look for something a bit more local. This quest was satisfied at The Kings Arms where I delighted in King John (4.2%), from Andwell Brewing Company, based in Hook “deep amber in colour with a blend of pale ale and crystal malt. The bitterness and fruity aroma are developed from a combination of hops”
On our return to the ground, we arrived at the same time as some of the Folland Sports players. Enjoying a good start to their season, they were confident ahead of this evening’s match. We were able to take plenty of daylight photographs and wander around the playing area. The only covered accommodation for spectators is the seated stand which straddles the halfway line. The dugouts are on the opposite side of the pitch. Which backs on to all-weather enclosed football pitch, which is used by the community. Behind one of the goals is a school, with the other end backing on to a new housing estate, where said Vinny has made home.
The clubhouse, which also serves the wider Longmeadow Sports complex is blessed with real ale options. My swift half of Cheriton Porter (4.2%) from Flower Potts Brewery (based at Flower Potts Inn, Cheriton Hampshire) was a treat. The volunteers that run the football club are a very friendly welcoming bunch, taking the time to chat with us and giving us an insight into how the club operates and its ideology.
Folland Sports were completely overrun in the first half of the match as the form book went out of the window. Goals from Dec Shuttleworth, Kyle Williams and a penalty converted by Kieran Rodgers with barely half an hour gone, livened up the evening before the visitors pulled a goal back, just before the interval. However, just after the break, Ryan Timmins hit a 4th goal for the hosts to cap an impressive team performance. The roads behaved on the way home with the Fridge Magnet safely deposited at Hanworth around 23:00 and this Pieman alighting at Cheshunt an hour later.

From the A1 leave at junction 3 and follow the signs for Watford. At long roundabout take the left into village and the ground is past the school on the left after 400 yards. From the M25 leave at Junction 22 and follow signs for Colney Heath. On entering village turn left at Queens Head pub (roundabout). The ground is on your right just before the school after 800 yards. Parking is available for match officials, club officials and players inside the ground.
St Albans City is a few stops on from Luton on the train. From there a 15 minute bus journey on the 301 or 302 route with drop you at the Three Horseshoes, about a mile from the ground.
The Crooked Billet is right next to the ground and serves great food and good real ales but does get busy on a weekend. If travelling by public transport, a pit stop at The Horn close to St Albans station would be recommended or a short walk to the Robin Hood. Another option is the Three Horseshoes on Hatfield Road where the bus drops you off, which serves London Pride and Doom Bar.
