A very warm welcome to the players, coaching staff, committee members and supporters of March Town Utd who are our opponents in tonight’s FA Youth Cup Extra Preliminary Round. Our opponents have travelled 70 miles for tonight’s tie, and we wish them an enjoyable evening in our company and a safe journey come the final whistle. At this stage of the competition last year, we beat Step 2 Brackley Town on penalties before being knocked out in the next round by AFC Rushden & InDiamonds.the12 months that have passed, there has been a wholescale revamp of the U18’s following the decision to part company with Pro:Direct Academy Luton at the end of last season. It was a difficult campaign for our young Blues last term, but great credit must go to all the players who wore the shirt for their dedication and loyalty during trying Ittimes.also bought out the best in Club volunteers Wayne Upton, Steve Lewington & parent, Chris Gray, who took over in the dugout and managed the team on matchdays. This season we’ve gone for a management team with impeccable credentials and highly recommended by Joe & Kyle. Ayub Nabongo and his management team have started from scratch and have drawn players from outside the local postcodes. I had the pleasure of watching one of their training sessions on a Sunday evening in the company of Youth Development Officer, Wayne Upton & Club Director, Dan Roberts. What we witnessed was the players being coached by a very familiar A licensed coach, who was as surprised “at this stage of the competition last year, we beat Step 2 brackley Town on penalties before being knocked out in the next round by aFc rushden & diamonds.”

This season we’ve increased admission charges for SCFYL matches to £4 for adults and £3 for concessions. The reason is very simple, last season we rarely covered the cost of pitch hire and the match officials’ fees. To try and offset that we’ve made admission for U18’s League matches free for Gold Owners and season ticket holders. If you’re not already one of our 130 owners please have a look at the ownership page on the website and read about the benefits of becoming the only fan owned club and social enterprise in Beds, Herts and Bucks. Becoming an owner enables us to run more activities under the Improving the Lives of Others Iprogramme.knowyou’ll all join me in wishing Ayub, his management team, and all the players every success tonight and for the season.

DUNSTABLE TOWN U18s MATCHDAY PROGRAMME 3 to see us as we were to see him. I know training sessions are no replica for a real game, but we all left that day, pretty impressed with what we saw. Initial impressions were confirmed when the lads took on Luton Town U16’s at Creasey Park at the end of July. Coming behind from a two goal deficit the lads got on level terms before eventually going down by the odd goal in 5. Ayub reported five or six players missing that day so great credit to the lads who did the Club so proud. And while we’re on the subject of missing players we’ve been tearing our hair out trying to obtain International Clearance for one of our younger players who sadly won’t be able to feature this evening. Unanswered phone calls, emails which don’t get replies, voicemails which don’t get returned, I think I can quite safely say in my six years as DTFC Secretary this has been one of the most stressful periods I have experienced trying to get someone in authority at the FA to have the common courtesy to reply. The young man in question is a prestigious talent and I can’t wait for him to be at Creasey Park.

March Town also has a thriving Youth set up, with the under 18’s playing in the Thurlow Nunn League.

After an unsuccessful spell in the United Counties League, March appointed ex- Norwich City player, Oscar Hold as Manager and after two seasons won the UCL Championship. In the 1955-56 season, March joined the Eastern Counties League and finished runners-up to Peterborough United Reserves. They finished runners-up to Spurs `A’ in the 1960-61 season but had to wait until the 1987-88 season to lift the MarchChampionship.havewon the League Cup once, beating Spurs 3-2 in a two-leg final, with the second leg being played at White Hart Lane. The Hares have reached the first-round proper of the FA Cup twice, going out to Brentford 4-0 in the 1956-57 season and more recently losing 2-0 at Swindon (1977-78 season).

March is a Fenland market town and civil parish in the Isle of Ely area of Cambridgeshire, England. It was the county town of the Isle of Ely which was a separate administrative county from 1889 to 1965. The administrative centre of Fenland District Council is located in the Thetown.town grew by becoming an important railway centre. Like many Fenland towns, March was once an island surrounded by marshes. It occupied the second largest “island” in the Great Level. As the land was drained, the town grew and prospered as a trading and religious centre. It was also a minor port before, in more recent times, a market town and an administrative and railway centre. March is situated on the banks of the navigable course of the River Nene, today mainly used by pleasure boats. March Town played on several grounds in the early 1880’s before sharing a ground with March Town Cricket Club at The Avenue. March Town played there until after the war. As founder members of the Isle of Ely Football League, March played in that League until joining the Peterborough & District League. After the war they added `United’ to the Clubs’ title, reflecting the move to the GER sports ground.
