inside the boardroom At half-time we will be handing over a cheque for £2,474 to the Luton & Dunstable University Hospital. A very warm welcome to the coaching staff, players, supporters, and committee of New Salamis FC who hail from North London and celebrate their 50th birthday this year. We hope you all have an enjoyable afternoon at Creasey Park, and a safe journey home once the final whistle is blown.

We are also joined by members of the 460 Squadron Dunstable Air Training Cadets who will be helping us commemorate Remembrance Sunday. Our thanks to Club Photographer, Chris White for helping to arrange this hugely important and significant reminder of the sacrifices of others on our behalf.

Today will be a little bit different to most matchdays. Our mascots for today are the U7’s Lions run by John Sanders, who for the last couple of years has been the Head Coach of the Development Centre for 4 – 6-year-olds. As you’ll see when the boys are on the pitch there’s some very promising young footballers in John’s ranks. I’ve been fortunate enough to watch several of their matches and love John’s encouraging coaching style and the boys’ faces full of enjoyment when they are playing. A warm welcome to John, his players and their families who are our guests for today.

On the field we gave an excellent account of ourselves last Tuesday against Leighton Town and battled hard for a well-deserved point. A crowd of 435, the highest in nearly four years, witnessed an excellent game and bumped up our average attendance to 176. The League average for comparison is 100, so a huge thank you to all of you for your fantastic support.

At half-time we will be handing over a cheque for £2,474 to Charmaine Norrish from the Fundraising Team at the Luton & Dunstable University Hospital. The money was raised by supporters and committee members who did the 20K sponsored walk last summer and will be spent providing additional psychological support to staff adversely affected by the Covid Pandemic. Our thanks to Fundraising Manager, Peter Bottom for all his hard work in raising so much money both for the L&D and DTFC. Peter also arranged a fantastic Quiz Night on Friday which raised nearly £500 for the Club and was enjoyed by everyone who attended.

We came down to earth with a bump on Saturday away at Flackwell Heath. After a promising first half, tired legs were evident as Flackwell Heath scored five goals in a second half thirty-minute period best watched from behind the sofa. Bumps on the road are always going to occur but if you break down the performances, this has been the only poor half of football out of eight and is something that we know we can learn from. A reminder that we are away to Ampthill Town in the Spartan League Challenge Trophy on Tuesday night, and next Saturday travel to London Colney for a League match. We look forward to seeing many of you at both games to support Joe, Kyle, and the lads as they go about re-building the squad and getting us away from the relegation zone. from the bench We come into the game in our 4th week in charge with a variety of emotions over the last 4 weeks. A warm welcome to the Management, Players, Staff and Committee members of New Salamis for today’s game. Today will undoubtedly be another tough test for our group against a New Salamis side who are going well in the league this season and have delivered impressive performances to date. Our most recent performance against Flackwell Heath was very disappointing. In all honesty I felt after the performance against Leighton which was an outstanding physical effort played with real intensity, we looked leggy and fatigued from the 1st minute on Saturday. We were never in control of the game which was disappointing, and we were nowhere near our levels. I decided to switch systems at half time to try and get a foothold in the game as in all fairness it felt in the game that we were waiting for the inevitable Flackwell goal. In hindsight I believe that was an error from me and for that, I take responsibility. We are one group and as I have said previously, I will always take responsibility for defeats. With time to reflect on the last 5 games there have been highs and lows and I have no doubt there will be more lows and highs to come. I promised sweat on the shirt when we arrived, and our players have given that. I can live with technical errors if players give all they can. We haven’t had any problems with attitude from the group and I hope that has been visible for supporters watching on. We are actively working at making improvements to the group and have been busy

all week looking at how we can improve the group and bring in real quality. We have very specific types of players and more importantly types of people that we identify and then get to work on bringing them in. We don’t believe in continuous turnover of players; we want to build stability in the group and really want to have our group in place as quickly as possible. If we can get the targets we want, that will make the group even stronger. Balance is vital to the group, whilst I have always enjoyed the energy and exuberance of younger players it is important, we get good senior players around them. There have been loads of encouraging signs in the last 4 weeks on the pitch. Whilst we recognise our league position is still of a precarious nature it really is tight in the league. Only 9 points separate us from 8th position so you can see how a run of positive results can catapult league positions and really change the season. I don’t expect quick fixes but what I do expect is us to improve our league position over the next month or two. We continue to be humbled by the support in the last 4 weeks. Supporters and committee members at the Flackwell game never stopped supporting the players and that is a great help for us all. The attendance and atmosphere against Leighton Town was excellent for the club and the pleasing thing for us was how many people were there supporting us! It was great to see many generations of supporters at the game. Please keep the support coming, it gives us all a lift. Enjoy today’s game and continue to get behind the lads. In 2018/19 they moved into the Herts County Senior League, playing their matches at Enfield Town FC. In their first season they won the presitgous Aubrey Cup Final, and also acheived promotion to the Spartan South Midlands League, after finishing runners up. Season 2019/20 saw them participate in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One at Step 6, their ambition to achieve promotion to Step 5. In March 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, they sat top of the table, certain of a top four finish and promotion. They also were the top scorers in all top 10 Divisions as the season was null and voided. Last season saw the team reach the first round of the FA Cup, in their first season, and when the season was curtailed in November , they

MATCH REPORT saturday 30 october Flackwell Heath 5 - 0 Dunstable Town A five-goal blitz in the second half including a 20-minute hat trick for Fabian Drifill was enough to send Dunstable back to Creasey Park empty handed and back into the SSML Premier division relegation zone. At half time few in the crowd would have predicted a full-time score of 5 – 0. An even first half had seen a delightfully curled shot from Terrence Muchineripi on the stroke of half time strike the cross bar and a pile driver on the half hour from Ruairi Mills narrowly off target. Dunstable had held their own despite not being at their best on a sloping pitch. However, Flackwell Heath hit a purple patch and scored all five goals in the last half hour of the game. Ollie Swain’s recall by parent club Bedford Town meant a first starting place for Ruairi Mills. Kwazim Theodore was missing through suspension and with Jimmy Hartley injured, Joe Sellers-West led the line. Uncharacteristically Dunstable’s passing game deserted them for periods during the game and several promising moves ended frustratingly with the final ball not reaching it’s intended destination. But this is a young team, and they will learn from today and look to bounce back on Saturday. The Club’s Twitter account called it a “bad day at the office” and that summed it up accurately. Flackwell Heath showed a clinical efficiency in front of goal and were well deserved winners on the day.

The attendance of 435 was the biggest attendance since the 17th February 2018 when Hereford FC came to town. Dylan Baker put the Blues ahead on the 15th minute with a delightful finish and while Leighton pressed hard to find an equalizer Dunstable were quick to mount counter attacks at every available opportunity. A goal to the good at the break Dunstable were pegged back shortly after the break with a deflected equalizer from Tom Silford. Despite sustained pressure from the away side Dunstable nearly took all three points when another deflected shot looped over Leighton keeper Connor Coulson’s head and looked as if it would land in the net but dropped agonizingly on top of the net. A point each in a very well contested game with local non-league football coming out the overall winner. We hope to mark Remembrance Sunday with a visit from the 460 (Dunstable) RAF Air Cadets and will also be handing over a cheque for nearly £2,500 to the Luton & Dunstable University Hospital’s Fundraising Team. The money raised from last year’s sponsored walk will be spent providing additional psychological support for staff involved in the Covid-19 pandemic.

The performance was in stark contrast to the battling and energetic performance on home turf on Tuesday night when League leaders Leighton Town came to Creasey Park. DUNSTABLE TOWN v New Salamis - 19

development centre add four teams to our books Good afternoon. Today we welcome our newly formed under 7s Lions who play in the MKDDL, which stands for the Milton Keynes District Development League. John Sanders started our Development Centre in 2019, which has been very successful, making up 4 of our youth teams. Two playing under 7s and two playing under 8s. These teams are sponsored by Aspexx and Macks Performance, for which we are very grateful. This is such a great achievement, and we would like to thank John for all his hard work. It’s also great to have John’s team down as mascots today, who will walk out with the team and hopefully Creasey the Lion will make an appearance too. Our club photographer Chris White will be on hand to take pictures of the team today. Also, it was great to have Freddie Lewington back as mascot against Flackwell Heath last Saturday after recovering from his fractured ankle.

HOW DO YOU FIND YOURSELF IN THE SIN BIN?

Players will only go in to the sin bin for dissent cautions

For use of words or gestures questioning or undermining the ref’s decisions

EXAMPLES OF DISSENT • Shouting at the ref • Questioning ref’s ability • Slamming the ball in to the ground • Sarcastically clapping a decision

DURATION OF A SIN BIN 10

For matches of 90 minutes, players spend 10 minutes in the sin bin

8

For matches of all other lengths, players spend 8 minutes in the sin bin

If the sin bin period has not expired at the end of: 1st half: Continues into 2nd half 2nd half: Continues into extra time Extra time: Player can participate in penalties

THE MATCH DAY PROCESS

Dissent

Dissent caution: Ref issues a yellow card and directs the player to the touchline

Player can’t be substituted until period expires and not if all subs have been made

Whilst in the sin bin, if the player commits a yellow or red card offence they can’t take any further part in the game and can’t be substituted

If the player commits a 2nd dissent caution and has already been booked, they will take no further part in the game and can’t be substituted

If the player commits a 2nd dissent caution and no other offences, they will receive a 2nd sin bin. After which they can’t take any further part in the game but can be substituted

If the player commits a yellow card offence on the field of play in addition to a period in the sin bin, they will continue to play

Ref decides when player returns to play

FOUL AND ABUSIVE LANGUAGE IS STILL A RED CARD OFFENCE!

in footbal history..

6 November 1966 - The Oranje’s First Red On 6 November 1966, Johan Cruyff earned one of his earliest distinctions, becoming the first player to be sent off in a match for the Dutch national team. It was only the second national team appearance for Cruyff, who was then just 19 years old and in his third season with Ajax. He had scored in his Netherlands debut, a 2-2 draw with Hungary a month earlier in a European Championship qualifier. His follow-up was a friendly against Czechoslovakia, played before a crowd of 52,000 at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam. The Czechs struck first, going up 0-1 with a 27th-minute goal from midfielder Ján Geleta. Dutch forward Sjaak Swart equalized for the hosts in the 51st minute, but they remained level for only three minutes, as midfielder Ivan

Hrdlička restored the visitors’ lead in the 54th minute. In the 76th minute, with the Netherlands struggling to maintain possession, Cruyff committed a foul that drew the historic ejection from referee Rudi Glöckner. Czechoslovakia held on to win 1-2, while Cruyff’s punishment continued far beyond the next match--the KNVB suspended him from international play for almost a year, so he did not receive his next cap until 13 September 1967. It was a costly suspension. Despite a storied career that included three European Footballer of the Year Awards (1971, 1973, 1974) he made only 48 national team appearances. But he still managed to score 33 goals for the Netherlands, a tally that ties him for seventh on their current all-time list.

On The Road Ampthill Town 12 miles

Tuesday 9th November - 19.45 - League Challenge Trophy Address: Ampthill Park, Woburn Road, Ampthill MK45 2HX Website: www.pitchero.com/clubs/ampthilltownfc Twitter: @ampthillfc TRAVELLING BY CAR Leave the M1 at Junction 12 Toddington. Turn right as sign posted until you meet the junction with the Ampthill by pass. Go straight across until you meet a mini roundabout at the town centre. Turn left into Woburn Street. The ground is about half a mile on the right just past a layby. TRAVELLING BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT The nearest station to the ground is Flitwick, a few stops north from Luton and Leagrave stations. The 34 bus to Central Milton Keynes after 7 stops will drop you on Woburn Road, with just a 6 minute walk to the ground. Unfortunately, there are no buses after the final whistle. So a taxi or a 50 minute walk will be in order to get back to the station. RECOMMENDED PUB Spoilt for choice in Ampthill for decent pubs. There are 2 on Dunstable Road. The Old Sun has 3 cask pumps and the Banks & Taylor owned Albion has 12 hand pumps. If that wasn’t enough there are 2 more pubs to visit before you reach the ground. The White Hart is on the mini roundabout with Woburn Road and the Queen’s Head is the last watering hole before you reach Ampthill Park,
