Welcome to the management, players, supporters, and all associated with Norwich CBS ahead of today’s FA Vase tie. It is my first ever encounter against Norwich CBS and like any game we understand the threat that Norwich CBS pose. Understandably we are keen to win the game as I am sure they are.
I want to start these programme notes in full support of Elijah Adebayo and Ivan Toney. Elijah of Luton Town, which you all know is a club I hold dear to my heart and Ivan Toney of Brentford, who suffered vile abuse by moronic racists last weekend. It is gut wrenching to think we live in 2022 and yet this kind of disgusting behaviour continues. My stance on behaviour like that is very simple! If it ever happened to a team I was involved in, we would be off the pitch. No doubt about it. It would not matter whether we were winning, losing, or drawing! I sincerely hope the gutless fools who abused Elijah and Ivan get punished. Why should footballers have to endure constant abuse by these lowlifes with very little ramifications from
the authorities? All credit must go to both Elijah and Ivan. Ivan Toney scored both goals and was man of the match in Brentford’s win and Elijah Adebayo scored the opener in Luton’s excellent 3-1 win over QPR.
It has been an interesting two weeks full of the usual emotional rollercoasters that football brings us. The jubilation and delight of a good 2-1 win at home to Leighton Town in front of 602 people really showed how far our club has come. We then faced two tough away games against Ardley on the Tuesday night and then Leverstock Green on the Saturday. The two games had many differences and yet so many similarities in terms of the outcomes. Ardley United is never an easy place to go on a Saturday never mind a Tuesday night.
There is a massive slope on the pitch which we defended 1st half and the kick off being 7:30pm does create logistical problems for players. Ardley put balls forward early, had a very direct style of play and use the slope to their advantage. We went in at 0-0 where
T
“my stance on behaviour like that is very simple! if it ever happened to a team i was involved in, we would be off the pitch. no doubt about it. ”
the game was even and nothing really between the sides. We made a couple of tweaks at the break that found us leading 1-0 within a few minutes of the restart.
A wonderful cross by Tolu Ikuyinminu and a fine header at the far post by Joe Sellers-West to give us the lead. I must be honest at that point I could only see us creating more chances and felt we could then really exert our dominance.
Unfortunately, a red card moments later changed the game and frustratingly it was all from our own doing. I can’t have any complaints about the red card in all fairness. We had an opportunity to cross the ball which we had scored from moments before, instead we recycled the ball put ourselves in trouble which leads to a late tackle from Liam. The unfortunate thing is we now lose Liam for 3 games which is even more frustrating.
We had a few very good chances to kill the game which we didn’t take, and Ardley are a good side and with virtually the last kick of the game Ardley got their equaliser. The amount of stoppage time I am still confused about in all honesty. It was a real blow for the lads who were devastated at the end. I was honest, spoke about how proud I was of them and the need to learn and move on.
On to last Saturday at Leverstock Green. In nearly 20 years of management and coaching I have never been so infuriated with the joke of a performance we served up in the 1st half. We were an absolute disgrace bar 1 or 2 and I had no problems telling the players my thoughts. These lads have been fantastic all season but that joke of a show in the 1st half will not be tolerated. I thought we played with an arrogance and a lethargy I have not seen from my group. Too long on the ball, slow to the press, taking liberties in possession and it felt all wrong from my group! The changing room was an intense environment at half time.
Full credit to my players we deserved to win the game in the end. We scored moments after the restart again through Harry Beaumont. Yet another red card proceeded to change the flow of the game which will see Kyle Faulkner miss 3 games as well. I have watched the footage several times and I cannot for the life of me understand how Kyle Faulkner gets sent off! Their number 11 starts the problem, and he raises his hands throwing what can be seen as a punch, albeit a pathetic one. The resulting melee doesn’t happen if the 11 doesn’t initiate the problem.
Unfortunately, yet again another decision goes against us which is farcical. The game then went flat after that and then out of nowhere we get sucker punched from a cross shot which flies into the net. Once again, this season straight from the restart we put together an excellent passing move that led to Sean Emmanuel scoring in less than a minute after his introduction. Manny has come in and done really well in the short space of time we have had him. He is a great lad and a player I have no doubts will become a fan favourite here.
After we equalised, I felt we were going to go on and win it. We are a very fit side and have a relentless mindset to keep going right until the final whistle. Had it have not been for the post and then a few outstanding saves from their GK we would have got the 3 points. In all fairness after our 1st half performance, we need to learn a valuable lesson that we cannot turn up like that for 45 minutes and expect 3 points.
Thank you again for such great support and we hope to bring you another win.
Good afternoon and welcome to everyone to Creasey Park. The FA Vase creates a lot of excitement as it gives the teams at Step 5 and below the greatest chance of getting to Wembley as seen last year when Newport Pagnell Town got to the final and won the cup.
In fact, the FA Vase was my first ever Dunstable Town match in 2020. To be honest that day I was quite taken aback about how enjoyable the wonderful institution of non-league football was. In the modern day where loyalty is a dying quality, it was of great comfort to see that there were still people out there who seek to passionately support their local side. But not just satisfied with attending the game these supporters were also selling programmes around the ground, writing the programmes, running the turnstiles, attending the car parks, sorting the playing kit, and doing practically anything possible to keep their club running and to make the club a welcoming a place for visitors.
How fun it was to watch and that was a period when the team was mostly losing so I could only imagine how exciting it was going to be when we had a winning team in place! And so, at the end of that season I gave up my season ticket at West Ham, become a season ticket holder at Dunstable Town and joined the Committee as a Business Consultant, along with Julian Nutley, to assist in restructuring the Club as a Community Benefit Society.
As a committee it’s hugely important we create an environment off the pitch which helps the team focus and flourish on it. There’s not enough column space
to name everyone individually but we have been working hard to improve the match day and social media experience and that in tandem with the exciting football on the pitch means that we are attracting many more people through the gate, more owners in the Club and more sponsorship. The atmosphere at Creasey Park has become a place of buzzing loyal fans and as a place for the Community to enjoy. It’s great to see the players outside of the matchday squad come along to the games and enjoy them as supporters and integrate with the Community which you rarely see at other Clubs and is a testament to the character and values within the Squad.
But the CBS is not just about the match day experience. Off the field our community groups have also grown. The Walking Football team is now established and additional pitch space has been rented due to increasing demand to join the group. Group sizes for our “non active” groups are also increasing which is another indicator of success for Chums & Crumbs and the Peer Support Group. With the introduction of a DTFC Community Hub Portacabin at Creasey Park towards the end of the year this will mean that we will be able to put on more groups free to the local Community later in the season.
Good luck to both teams in your journey to make Non-League Finals Day at Wembley at the end of the season.

Norwich CBS FC has a very long history, and several club names changes along the way. The club formed in 1888 under the name, Norwich Union FC and at its peak fielded four Saturday teams, a Sunday XI, a veterans XI, and were working to develop a youth section.
The club played at Pinebanks in Thorpe St Andrew from their formation until its closure in 2007. Thorpe St Andrew is a town in the Broadland district of Norfolk. It is situated on the River Yare, two miles east of the centre of Norwich, is outside the boundary of the city and has a population of approximately 14,500.
Pinebanks was a grade two listed house built between 1880 and 1882 by a Norwich solicitor, taken over by the Norwich Union and used as their social club. Many extensions were built over the years to cater for sports, including badminton and squash. There were several football pitches, plus cricket pitches, tennis courts and a bowling green. It was one of the finest sports and leisure facilities in the county.
During the late seventies Norwich Union competed in the FA Vase for the first time in their history with appearances against Histon in 1977 in the 1st round and again the following year against March Town United. Both campaigns ended in defeat after one game and the club would not appear in the competition again for almost 40 years.
In the late 1990’s with Ian Bird in charge of the playing side and a driving force behind many initiatives the club achieved welcome success in the Business Houses League and
the Anglian Combination. Winning the Junior Cup in 1999 and Division 2 of the Anglian Combination the following year was the beginning of a re-building programme with high aspirations.
Promotion to the Premier Division of the Anglian Combination secured their status in Senior Norfolk football as one of their short-term objectives. Longer term they were seeking to enter the Ridgeons League. With the installation of excellent floodlights at Pinebanks, they almost achieved that ambition but finished one place short in the Premier Division to qualify for acceptance.
In July 2007, they received the devastating news that Pinebanks was to close in its entirety with the loss of the playing and social facilities. For 120 years Norwich Union FC played a significant part in Norfolk football and members of staff were proud to play under its banner. For the most part it could perhaps be described as a sleeping giant. Success did not come easily to the ‘pen pushers’ but they enjoyed their football at Pinebanks and travelling around Norfolk and Suffolk. Undaunted, they were determined not to let the club and all its history pass into oblivion. After much frustrating searching, they were able to play at Dussindale for one season as AFC Norwich. They then proudly emerged as Spixworth FC and were indebted to David Potter, his Sunday team colleagues, Spixworth Parish Council, and Spixworth Village Hall Management Committee, for all their work in facilitating the move. Spixworth is a village that lies close to the B1150 road and is 5 miles
north of Norwich and has a population of just under 4,000.
Middy Brown who was a well-known personality in Spixworth also worked very hard to maintain the stability of the club and managed the team for several seasons. All the hard work was rewarded at the end of the 2011 Season, when Spixworth won the Senior League Cup competition, more commonly known as the Mummery Cup, beating Acle United on penalties after a very entertaining 2-2 draw after extra time.
The 2012/13 season was arguably the club’s most successful season.
Finishing runners up in the race for the illustrious Sterry Cup, losing only one league game all season, and runners up in the Mummery Cup Final, and SemiFinalist in the Norfolk Senior Cup, in a tie witnessed by a crowd of 350+ at Spixworth Village Hall. The next season they matched its previous season’s league achievements finishing runners up again in the Sterry Cup.
The 2014/15 season saw the club lifting the Mummery Cup again, for the second time in five seasons. The next season saw them appoint a new management team who had big plans for the club over the next 5 years. Unfortunately, they just fell short of the Sterry Cup again
against local rivals Acle United saw them victorious with a 2-0 win, which saw Acle United lift the Sterry Cup on Spixworth’s home ground, a bitter pill to swallow. They did manage to secure some silverware when they completed the cup double winning the Mummery Cup once again with a win over Caister FC and the Don Frost win over the title winners Acle United.
The 2016/17 season finally saw them lift the Sterry Cup in a season that will never be matched again with records being broken left, right, and centre. With only one loss, one draw and a goals scored record of 100. They also gained promotion to the Thurlow Nunn league. With this promotion came a change of home ground and name. They now play at the Football Development Centre in Bowthorpe, on the Field of Dreams pitch, and changed their name to Norwich CBS FC. Bowthorpe is a suburban village to the west of Norwich. It is primarily a residential area, but includes a large industrial estate, a small out-of-town shopping centre, and includes large open spaces and parks.
The club adopted the CBS from the location of their new ground, being between Costessey and Bowthorpe, and from their long-term club sponsor
County Building Services. In their first season at their new home, they finished 8th in Division One North and had an good run in their return to the FA Vase. After overcoming Ipswich Wanderers, Wroxham, Oxhey Jets, Wisbech St Mary and Yaxley, eventually losing to Leighton Town 5-2 in the 4th round.
The 2018/19 season saw them have a slightly better performance in the league, finishing 7th overall but tumbled out of the Vase early doors, following a 3-1 defeat by Biggleswade.
The COVID years saw the club continue its good league form, only to have the seasons abandoned, although they did have another good run in the Vase in the short lived 2020/21 season, which saw them reach the 3rd round, eventually exiting at the hands of Stowmarket Town. The previous pandemic shortened season saw them have their first game in the FA Cup. It was short lived after a 1-0 defeat at Bugbrooke St Michaels in the extra preliminary round.
Last season saw CBS finish in 4th place in the league, which earned them a playoff spot for promotion to the Premier Division and a semi-final match at Downham Town, which they lost 1-0. In the Vase they travelled to Bedfordshire to take on Ampthill Town in the 1st round and had an impressive 4-0 victory. The 2nd round saw them exit in a 3-0 defeat to Lakenheath.
This season has seen the CBS have an impressive start in the league currently sitting in 4th place after 12 games and an impressive 7-2 victory in the Vase against Parson Drove.

Four times the Blues had travelled to Pancake Lane since their return to the Spartan South Midlands League in 2019 and on every occasion the 16 mile journey back up the M1 had been one of disappointment. Defeated on every occasion without scoring a single goal.
Thankfully that unwelcome record has now been broken. Two second half goals from Harry Beaumont and Sean Emmanuel sealing a precious point. Had it not been for the post and a magnificent save from Austin Byfield in the final 10 minutes, then the Blues could have left with all 3 points in the bag.
Charlie Jones made an important save just before the break to keep the score down to 1-0 and its significance was not lost on another large away following as Harry Beaumont swooped at the far post with only 2 minutes played of the second half to fire home from a tight angle.
Before the match, Richard Scott, Andy Burrows, Dean Falla & Peter Bottom donned their walking boots and hiked over the Downs and across the Beds
& Herts countryside to raise money for charity. A 16 mile walk across uneven land is a remarkable achievement and a measure of all the good things the Club is doing off the field.
Leverstock Green deserve their reputation as one of the best run and friendly clubs in the League and their decision to donate their share of their 5050 shows the solidarity and friendship that exists between the two clubs.
Whatever Head Coach said to his players at half-time worked a treat. Playing down the slight slope, the Blues
Twere out of the traps with energy and purpose and to the sound of Regimental cowbells, Beaumont’s second goal for the Club, set up the match for an exciting second half.
Five minutes after Beaumont’s equalizer, Kyle Faulkner found space on the right hand side and tore down on goal. Only Byfield stood in his way. Credit to Byfield, he advanced, narrowed the angle and stood tall. Kyle shot low and hard, but Byfield had saved well.
Within 5 minutes Faulkner was shown a straight red for his part in a dust up by the touchline. Referee Phil Evans brandishing a red card to the Leverstock player involved in the incident. Evans was to send Nagheeb off shortly before the final whistle for a second yellow, but by that time, deep into stoppage time, the Blues could not make the extra man advantage count.
Leverstock Green went ahead for a second time with just 15 minutes left. Similar to Tolu Ikuyinminu’s goal away at Potton, a cross come shot which catches the wind and wrongfoots the keeper. Charlie Jones, on this occasion helpless to stop the ball hitting the post and crossing the line.
The Blues response was immediate. Joe Sellers-West came off and on came Sean Emmanuel and within 60 seconds he had burst through the Leverstock back line and planted the ball firmly in the back of the net. Talk about inspired substitutions !
Despite late pressure the scores stayed tied and supporters talked afterwards in the bar of the proverbial tale of 2 halves.
In a carbon copy of last weekend, Town conceded on the 4th minute. Fortunately, the deficit lasted just 5 minutes. Cookie quickly rolled out to George, and he put the ball in a dangerous area for Josh to chase and force a corner. The defender could only flick it to George on the back post and he danced around two players and toe poked the ball in.
Six minutes later, George claimed his brace by finishing off an excellent passing move. It started with Sam, Buddy and Charlie passing the ball well. Charlie was able to pass wide right to Darren. He put the ball up the line and Josiah squared the ball. The keeper parried Josh’s initial effort, but George was on hand to calmly slam the ball into the unguarded net.
On 17 mins Town scored again. Darren squared to George. He chipped over to Ricky, whose overlapping run had stretched the Kempston defence. Ricky passed to Josh, and he side footed in the third across the keeper.
Nine minutes later Josiah scored his trademark header. Darren twisted and turned and was brought down on the left edge of the area. Buddy clipped in the cross and Josiah rose above the manly Kempston defenders to head in.
Two minutes in the 2nd half and Town scored again. A quick throw from Ads allowed Josh to pressure and harass the right back. He panicked, Josh won the ball and placed the ball across the keeper to extend the lead.
The drama was not over! Again, like last weekend, Town allowed a throw into the unmarked central midfielder. What followed, a left foot, half volley, worldy that flew into Cookie’s top right corner, was applauded by the fans.
After a minute of stoppage time the referee drew a pulsating and entertaining game to its conclusion and a 6-3 victory for The Blues.
Goals: George (2), Josh (2), Josiah (1), Darren (1)

Two of our intrepid walkers were met by club chairman, Andrew Madaras and walking football manager, Ian Bateman at Tony’s Café on High Street North for a pre walk breakfast. Dean Falla and Richard Scott set off, full of cheap meat and coffee, to meet Andy Burrows at Creasey Park for the start of their epic 26km adventure.
Heading towards Dunstable Downs they were passed on the Green Lanes by a cyclist, ringing his bell and greeting the walkers with a hearty “Good Morning!”
The three soon became four with the arrival of Pete Bottom, who was mingling with the Park Runners outside the Visitor Centre.
Heading towards Kensworth via Isle of Wight Lane they went cross country towards Markyate and then on to their halfway stop off point of Flamstead. As they approached Markyate alongside
the village cricket pitch, the cyclist from earlier that morning was heading home and greeted the chaps with “You boys have walked a long way”. They replied with “We’re not even halfway yet” as they set their sights on the Spotted Dog, for what they thought would be a wellearned pint.
On arrival in the village of Flamstead, the Spotted Dog was busy with patrons and our fearless walkers were looking forward to rehydrating. On spotting the
Tring Brewery’s Side Pocket on cask, the order went in, only to be disappointed as they were not allowed to serve beer until after midday. So, after a round of teas and coffees, they quickly left in the hope of a pint at the Olde Leather Bottle in Leverstock Green.
Passing George & Freddie’s den on their way out of the village, they crossed over the M1 and walked through the grounds of St Mary’s Church in Redbourn, whose cemetery was being tended by some herberts on community service.
Here they picked up the Nickey Line, which is the disused railway line from Harpenden to Hemel Hempstead. It closed to passenger trains in 1947 but continued to be used for freight until 1979. This was reopened as a footpath in 1985 and delivered our walkers into the Maylands Industrial Estate in Hemel Hempstead. The last mile or two were tough, as creaking joints and blisters were kicking in. They managed to limp into the Olde Leather Bottle for a couple of pints of Tring Brewery’s Huck-MeBuck, their hearty autumnal ale.
Just five minutes round the corner was their destination. Pancake Lane. The home of Leverstock Green Football Club. A ground visited many times before, but never has it been such a welcome site. They were welcomed
by Dunstable Town supporters and committee members, just as the teams were taking to the field.
As they entered the clubhouse, Leverstock Green Vice-Chair and Treasurer Tony Smart kindly donated their profit from their 50/50 tickets to our kitty. A very kind gesture, from a great football club.
With barely a fortnights rest before the next walk to Harpenden on 1st November, our band of odd balls and misfits will walk another 21km, via Luton, and a few pubs selling beer this time.
If you would like to support our walkers in their quest to purchase a pitchside defibrillator and to support the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and The OLLIE Foundation, and help the club’s support groups and activities, including our walking football sessions, Sphere at the Glider and Chums & Crumbs at Dunstable Library please go to www.crowdfunder.co.uk/dtfc2
Among the 206 clubs competing in the 1st Round of the FA Vase are 18 sides that have not appeared at this stage of the competition before.
There are two ties involving four of those clubs, although the anomaly of Wallingford and Crowmarsh having been exempted to this round on the back of Wallingford Town’s exploits last season is a strange one. They travel to fellow debutants London Samurai Rovers, whilst the other tie that guarantees one club continues their FA Vase record breaking run is Wormley Rovers v Sheringham FC.
Other clubs competing in the Vase for the first time are Frickley Athletic, Horden Community Welfare, Hartpury University, Basildon Town and AFC Whyteleafe.
The last tie in that list is another where the winners are guaranteed to be in 2nd Round of the Vase for the very first time. West Didsbury and Chorlton versus Golcar United is another as is Cheltenham Saracens against Belper United. Rusthall FC versus Montpelier Villa will see club history being made.
Many other clubs are looking to appear in the 2nd Round for the very first time, too. Clubs such as Newcastle University, FC St Helens, Campion FC, Newent Town, Lydd Town, Larkfield and New Hythe Wanderers, Jersey Bulls, Whitchurch United, AFC Stoneham, Little Common, Bovey Tracey, Lydney Town, Bishops Lydeard and Elburton Villa all have home advantage to try to make club history.
Conversely, FC Isle of Man, Ashby Ivanhoe, Pinchbeck United, Aylesbury Vale Dynamos, St Panteleimon, Benfleet FC, Little Oakley, Eversley and California, Bexhill United, Crediton United, Laverstock and Ford and Tooting Bec all have the harder task of trying to achieve that feat via an away victory.
Tooting Bec travel to Deal Town, who are one of three former winners of the Vase competing in this round. The 1994 winners Diss Town travel to fellow Step Six side Whittlesey Athletic, and Stansted FC visit Downham Town with the hosts looking to avenge defeat in the competition from 33 years ago.
That is just one of 13 ties involving clubs that have faced each other in the FA Vase before and is the longest wait to seek revenge. Blackstones FC have had to wait 28 years for the opportunity to avenge defeat by fellow United Counties League Division One side Bourne Town, whilst Prestwich Heys beat their opponents this season, Winterton Rangers, just last year.
Also meeting for the second successive season in the Vase are Whitley Bay and Billingham Synthonia, the tie this 1st Round with the joint most head-toheads, this being the fourth time they’ve been drawn together. Whitley Bay have a two to one win ratio in past meetings but it was Synthonia who won through last year. Also meeting for the fourth time in the Vase are Somerset based Wellington FC and Barnstaple Town with the former club ahead by two wins to one.
Dunstable Town Football Club has relaunched as a Community Benefit Society (CBS), which is a recognised legal entity structure, supported by the FSA (Football Supporters Association) and regulated by the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority).
This means that the club is owned equally by its shareholders, and anyone can become a shareholder with equal voting rights. When you become a member of the Club you will receive ‘The Blue Card’, which entitles you to the discounts listed below:

the pieman (@_therealpieman) is a tottenham hotspur fan who has attended thousands of matches and hundreds of grounds throughout the united kingdom and europe. this week he visits eintracht frankfurt.
Eintracht Frankfurt U19 1 Tottenham Hotspur U19 0 - UEFA Youth league, Group Stage
Frankfurt is located on both sides of the river Main, south-east of the Taunus mountain range. The southern part of the city contains the Frankfurt City Forest, Germany’s largest city forest.
Frankfurt hosts the largest financial centre in continental Europe. It is home to the European Central Bank, Deutsche Bundesbank, Frankfurt Stock exchange and several large commercial banks. The Frankfurt Stock Exchange is one of the world’s largest stock exchanges by market capitalization and accounts for more than 90 percent of the turnover of the German market. The city is divided into 46 districts, which in turn are dived into 121 city boroughs and 448 electoral districts.
Dreieich is a town in the Offenbach district in Hessen. The town is part of the
Frankfurt Rhein-Main urban area and is located 6 miles south of Frankfurt. With a population of more than 40,000 it is the district’s second largest town. The town’s name comes from a royal hunting forest, first reference in the 9th century. The primary reason for this excursion (thanks for driving Kevin) to Germany was to watch Eintracht Frankfurt v Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Champion League. Although the venue for that match (Waldstadion) is covered elsewhere on Pie and Mushy Peas following my visit
in 1982, the parallel competition (UEFA Youth League) provided an opportunity to visit a new ground. Sportpark Dreieich is a purpose built ground for Eintracht Frankfurt II. On arrival at Dreieich station I was prepared for a half an hour walk to the ground, but Ciderman and I were fortunate to be able to take advantage of a very conveniently timed shuttle bus, waiting at the station. We were the only passengers and could not help marvelling at the German efficiency in providing this complimentary service. We also negotiated with the driver our return journey.
The 3500 capacity stadium boasts two covered seated stands. These are situated along the sides of the pitch. There was also an impressive corporate hospitality area located at the back of the stand where we were sitting. An unused section of raised terracing is located behind one of the goals. Also at this end of the ground are the changing facilities and the media lounge. The opposite end of the ground has no spectator facilities. Additional refreshment facilities for spectators are situated near the entrance to the venue and it will have been here that Peter Lee purchased his hot dog. The match was a closely contested affair with the young Spurs side giving
a decent account of themselves without creating too many chances. Ferri Julia’s headed goal gave the hosts the lead on 25 minutes. Some poor officiating denied the visitors the chance to level on 35 minutes when Jamie Donley was clearly tripped in the box. I saw it and told the referee Milos Gigovic as much! This was a far better performance by Spurs than the previous match in Lisbon and they did finish strongly. It will be interesting to see the reverse of this fixture at Hotspur Way. Our shuttle bus was waiting for us at the end of the match and on this occasion we shared the journey with some Eintracht Frankfurt staff, before catching the train back to the centre where the Curry Wurst and beer were waiting!

address: Hertingfordbury Park, West St, Hertford SG13 8EZ website: www.stpanteleimonfc.co.uk twitter: @StPanteleimonFC
The ground is located off West Street, and best approached by turning left off the A414 westbound (Gascoyne Way). The turn is signed, a few yards past the Ford Garage (Gates). West Street is narrow and can be obstructed by parked cars. About 200 metres along West Street is a narrow lane which falls away to the right. Follow this over a narrow bridge and the car park and entrance to the ground is in front of you.
Hertford North station is on the Great Northern network and is accessible from either Hitchin or Finsbury Park. Hertford North is about a mile (20 min walk) from Hertingfordbury Park.
Closest to the ground is the Black Horse which has 5 regular changing beers. Just on the other side of Gascoyne Way is the White Horse. A charming old timber-framed building with two downstairs bars and additional rooms upstairs, one featuring bar billiards. As a Fuller’s pub it carries ESB, London Pride and a random Dark Star ale.
