Welcome to the management, players, committee, and supporters of Shefford Town & Campton ahead of today’s FA Cup clash. Shefford Town & Campton come into the game in excellent form and are currently league leaders with 4 wins from 4. We play again next Saturday in the league and I’m hopeful we don’t have to see them again on Tuesday night for a replay. We expect a tough game as we always do and have prepared accordingly. We come into the game undefeated in 5 following last weekend’s win against Crawley Green in the FA Vase. I was delighted with the result and felt we were always in control of the game. We made several new additions in the summer which I felt was vital if we were to improve on last season. Full credit to the lads who have come in they have really bought into the culture and expectations placed on them. I use the word expectation with a degree of trepidation. The expectations I put and demand of myself are probably substantially higher than most. I’m always seeking more and will never sit back and think we have cracked it.

“our

The 4 wins and 1 draw in our first 5 competitive games pleases me to a degree but I am acutely aware that in the next 5 games things can change drastically if we allow complacency to creep in. I have been in football long enough to know that the minute you drop your levels and standards then disaster awaits. We certainly can’t today with a place in the next round at stake and against Shefford Town & Campton who have started the season flying.

The Crawley Green game pleased me due to the way we kept persevering and showed patience to eventually get a well-deserved win. Crawley Green didn’t press us particularly aggressively and that required us to be patient in possession and await openings. We dominated the ball for most of the game and that gave us control of the game. support and the game.”pushgivingtheallcongratulatesuperbSundaycreatedatmosphereonwasandimustyouforcheeringladsonandusthattowinthe

We went in at half time and for all our possession neither team really forced a difficult save from either goalkeeper. We spoke about it at half time about selection and type of delivery needed in the final 3rd to turn possession into goals. I was absolutely delighted for Kyle Faulkner scoring his 1st 2 goals of the season. Players peak at different times in the season and that has been evident from our group this season. Kyle had found himself as an impact player at times this season and fair credit to him his attitude has been exemplary and that personifies the spirit in the group. Kyle hasn’t sulked, he hasn’t complained, he has worked exceptionally hard in training and taken the opportunity when it presented itself. His timing of his run from an exquisite pass from J’Ardell Stirling led to him being 1 on 1 with Dan Gould. Kyle showed excellent composure to steady himself and dispatch the ball into the net. His 2nd goal I was even more pleased with as it was the first simple goal, I have ever seen Kyle score. More excellent work from Tolu Ikuyinminu and Joe Sellers-West left Kyle with a tap in. It’s easy to pick out goal scorers for the accolades when you win games but every one of the lads to a man was excellent. Charlie Jones got a welldeserved clean sheet and once again I thought our defence was excellent as well as our midfielders who were dominant. We are growing as a group and developing nicely but we are not getting carried away. The minute in football you start to believe in your own hype you go downhill very quickly. I thought our support and the atmosphere created on Sunday was superb and I must congratulate you all for cheering the lads on and giving us that push to win the game. I feel like I’m moaning a lot at present however I was disappointed to hear of an incident involving one of our “supporters” and our former goalkeeper Dan Gould. Dan Gould was a good player for this club and sometimes in life we make decisions to go in a different route. I wanted a different profile of goalkeeper this season and didn’t feel Dan would get the required game time he wanted; it was as simple as that. Dan moved on to Crawley Green and they got a really good goalkeeper in Dan Gould. This doesn’t legislate for him to be subjected to derogatory comments from an individual. Our supporters are fanatical, and I love the intensity of the support but please don’t abuse opposition players or our players. There is a fine line between banter and abuse, and I’m led to believe one individual crossed that line. Finally, I am delighted the young Hertford Town Player Potchu Mendes Calucane who suffered a cardiac arrest at Creasey Park last Saturday is now stable and recovering. A huge amount of credit must go to the heroes of the day Paige, Niki and Alasan Ann for saving the young man’s life. It takes not only skill but a huge amount of courage to do CPR and stay composed in such a pressure situation. I really hope that lessons can be learned from the situation so that all clubs are equipped in the future with the defibrillator at pitch side as well as the need to have adequately trained staff. Keep the fantastic support coming. I look forward to another tough game and hopefully seeing more smiles on faces at 5pm!

Good afternoon and welcome everyone to Creasey Park for this afternoon’s Emirates FA Cup 1st Round Qualifying tie versus fellow SSML side, Shefford Town & Campton. As always, a special welcome to our visitors from Shefford Town & Campton. To all the players, coaching staff, committee, and supporters, we hope you enjoy your afternoon with us, and wish you a safe journey home at 5pm. Shefford Town & Campton have made an excellent start to the season and have won all four of their SSML games putting them on top of the table. We know this afternoon will be another tough game for us and we need every single one of you to play your part in supporting the lads as loudly as you can do. I want to take this opportunity to pay tribute to three of our volunteers, Matchday Manager, Wayne Upton, Kit Man, Steve Lewington and Walking Football Manager, Ian Bateman, who, without a moment’s hesitation last Saturday helped in the battle to save the life of Hertford Town player Potchu Mendes who had collapsed on the field and suffered a cardiac arrest in their match against AFC Dunstable. The three had gone to Creasey Park to watch a game of football, paid their admission money and enjoyed an entertaining game. When disaster struck all three of our party did whatever they could and whatever was needed to help and make sure, thankfully, that Potchu survived. We wish the players and coaching staff from both AFC & Hertford Town our best wishes and hope Potchu makes a full and speedy recovery. Wayne, Steve, and Ian are all modest men and won’t thank me for writing

later, and all three men were back at Creasey Park to volunteer for a variety of roles in the FA Vase match against Crawley Green. What followed was a decent game of football which we won thanks to a brace from Kyle Faulkner, who came off the bench and showed impeccable finishing for both his goals. There were seven former Dunstable Town players in the Crawley Green starting line-up. Among them were Dan Trif & Dan Gould who were both crowd favourites during their time at Creasey Park. You always worry that opposition players will play above themselves on their return and leave victoriously. Despite us having the lion’s share of the ball it took until the 76th minute to break down the stubborn Crawley defence and myself and Matt weren’t the only ones in another good crowd of 260 to breathe an almighty sigh of relief. The win came with a cheque for £550. Having been knocked out at this stage at every attempt over the past three seasons it felt very nice to be in the draw for the next round, which has us play Holmer Green at Creasey Park on Saturday September 24th, kick off 3pm.

Thisapply.afternoon we’ve all got jobs to do and responsibilities to uphold. Ours as fans is to be loud and proud and be the 12thMan for Joe and the players. Please get behind the boys from the first whistle to the last and let’s raise the roof of Creasey Park.

Filed under “Matches to watch from behind the sofa with your eyes covered” was the second half of the away match at Holmer Green last season. Played in a snowstorm we surrendered the half-time goal lead and lost 1-2. Joe’s response to the defeat and that against Crawley Green & then Ardley in the Premier Division Cup has been to beef up the midfield and his strategy has so far paid dividends with all the new players fitting into the team and giving us a more solid

On Tuesday evening we face Baldock Town at Creasey Park in the Gladwish Challenge Trophy. Kick off is 7.45pm. If you are a Season Ticket Holder or DTFC Gold Owner, please bring your season ticket with you to get in for free. Otherwise, normal admission prices

Shefford Town & Campton Football Club (The Bluemen) are based in the town of Shefford, Bedfordshire. The team plays its home matches at Shefford Sports Club on Hitchin Road in Shefford and at Campton Playing Fields, Rectory Road in Campton. The club is competing at the 10th tier of the English football league system in the Spartan South Midlands Football League Division One. The club also has a reserve side competing in Premier Division of the Bedfordshire County Football League and U23 and development teams appearing in the same league structure Founded in 1910, the club played its first football in September when it began to enter a team into the Biggleswade and District Junior League. Playing home matches at Ivel Road, the team contested this local competition until 1949–50, when Shefford began to enter its team into the South Midlands League. The side won the Beds Senior Cup that season, a feat it repeated in 1953. After finishing runners-up in the Beds Senior Cup, the following year, winning it again in 1955 and capping these feats with two successive league championships, Shefford Town started to contest the Parthenon League against teams from further afield – some away trips took the team as far as London. In the new league, Shefford finished as runnersup in the first season before spending two more years in the competition. After three years, the long journeys and sparse league programme led the club to join the more local United Counties InLeague.1960–61, the league championship came to Shefford, and the club added the North Beds Charity Cup to its trophy cabinet during the same week. The following season saw a drastic change in fortunes, as the team finished second from bottom – the club reacted by arranging a move back to the South

The River Flit and the River Hit run through the town. The Flit runs from Flitwick and joins the River Ivel on the edge of Shefford. The Ivel eventually joins the River Great Ouse just north of Sandy. The name Shefford is derived from sheep-ford because there had been a sheep market and ford crossings over the two rivers that run through the town. Shefford Hardwick was a hamlet located west of the parish, north of Ampthill Road. The rural settlement became a civil parish in 1858 but was merged into the parish of Shefford in 1933 as the farmstead expanded.

Shefford is a town and civil parish located in Central Bedfordshire. At the 2001 census it had a population of 4,928 and was estimated to have grown to 5,770 by 2007. The population at the 2011 Census had risen to 5,881.

During World War II an entire Jewish children’s community came into being in Shefford as 500 pupils from Judith Grunfeld’s school were billeted in and around the town. The school was moved in 1939 and remained in Shefford until 1945. This was part of “Operation Pied Piper” where schools were moved in anticipation of wartime bombing. A book was written about this time, titled “Shefford: The Story of a Jewish School Community in Evacuation, 1939-1945”, telling the story of the evacuated school.

Success didn’t come back to Ivel Road until the early 1980s – in 1982–83 Shefford lifted the Division One title and finished the following season as league champions. During 1983–84, Shefford also won the North Beds Charity Cup, the Biggleswade Knockout contest, and the Bedfordshire Intermediate Cup. The North Beds Charity and Biggleswade Knockout double was repeated the following year. During the late 1980s the club stagnated, as the team tumbled back into Division One after finishing bottom in 1989–90. After three uneventful seasons, Shefford Town were moved to the Senior Division on league re-organisation. Though performances improved, with the team finishing fifth in 1993–94, the club was wound up and played its final match on 18 May 1994.

Shefford Town Football Club was reformed in 2009 by Dan Pinkerton and Graham Earl, who had been involved in local youth football. The new club was accepted into the Bedfordshire County Football League for the 2009–10 season, and assigned a place in Division Two, at level 13 of the English football league system. In 2010 Shefford Town merged with near neighbours Campton. The club has had success both on and off the pitch in recent years since its reformation, the club were crowned Bedfordshire County Premier Division Winners in 2011–12, 2017–18 and 2018–19. The Bedfordshire County League Britannia Cup was won in both 2011 & 2014, 2019 and the East Beds Charity Cup was won by the Reserve team in 2015. The Club has also finished runners up in the Biggleswade knockout cup in 2015, 2016 & 2017.

At the end of 2018–19 season Shefford announced its intentions to seek promotion into the Spartan South Midlands Football League, they duly wrapped up the Bedfordshire County League title and passed the relevant ground grading, so the club stepped back into the league it folded out of back in Under1994 the Stewardship of Kane Dougherty and James Taylor the club topped division 1 during the curtailed season of 20/21 and finally guided us to promotion via the playoffs during the 21/22 season as well as winning the Divison 1 Cup.

12 DUNSTABLE TOWN vs SHEFFORD TOWN & CAMPTON Midlands League. The team came third during the first season back in the division, and in 1973–74 the team finished as runners-up. However, the club was relegated in 1975–76.

Shefford Town & Campton FC play fixtures at two local grounds, Rectory Road in Campton has been the club’s home since the 1920s and is still used by the club today, a typical village playing field with purpose-built Step 7 changing facilities, what is remarkable is that these facilities were brought into the 21st century through the hard work of the club’s players and management to ensure they could continue to play out of the club’s spiritual home. For the 2014/15 season, the club moved into its current home at Shefford Sports Club on Hitchin Road in Shefford. The new ground boasts a fantastic clubhouse, changing facilities and a well looked after pitch. In the spring of 2019, the club added a new stand with standing capacity for 100 spectators to assist with its push for promotion to step 6 of the Football League Pyramid. Shefford’s historic ground was on Ivel Road in Shefford. When the club folded in 1994 the land was left derelict until development started on it in the late 2000s. This paved the way for the new facility on Hitchin Road to be built. The old football ground is now a street known as Old Bridge Way, which is just off Ivel Road.

The reality of life in the Premier Division of the Spartan South Midlands League is the prize money, has paid for the pitch hire and post-match food for the players, the match officials’ expenses and the match balls. After the traumatic scenes the day before when a Hertford Town player collapsed during their match v AFC Dunstable all eyes were on safety procedures and protocols. Thankfully there was no repetition of the distress and trauma of the previous 24 hours which had seen three ambulances and the air ambulance called to Creasey Park. The good news is the player concerned is reported to be making a good recovery. The Club sends its best wishes to everyone concerned at both clubs.

The first half was as tight as many predicted, with both sides battling to control midfield and both defences keeping the opposition strikers quiet. Chances were few and far between. The game became niggly, and referee Ross Cole was kept busy booking six players in total. As the second half wore on it was Dunstable who gained the ascendency Finding that extra yard and that extra bit of pace, Tolu Ikuyinminu tore down the left-hand side and was narrowly wide a minute before Kyle Faulkner, on as a second half substitute, tested Dan Gould who got down well to keep the scores level. Further Dunstable pressure followed, and it was Faulkner who seized on a superb through ball from J’Ardell Stirling to bury the ball into the net. It was a classic Faulkner finish, and it needed to be to beat Dan Gould who has the reputation as being one of the best shotstoppers in the League. The goal on 76 minutes gave the Blues some breathing space. But they didn’t rest on their laurels and shut up shop. Blue shirts pressed forward. Seeking to put the game to bed, Faulkner’s predatory instincts were rewarded when Gould couldn’t hold a shot at full length and Faulkner was there to slot home. Twitter referred to waiting for a bus and then two come at once. It had that feel to Liamit. McCrohan came on to shore things up at the back as the away side tried to get back in the game but were unable to do so.

If any reminder were needed about the environmental challenges facing mankind, then the recent record breaking scorchers have been firm digs in the ribs. Grass fires in East London, Norfolk, Milton Keynes have led to houses and commercial buildings being burnt down while across large parts of Europe forest fires rage almost uncontrollably destroying everything in their path. This is no longer a debate on the causes of climate change and whether the earth and atmosphere are warming naturally or due to the burning of fossil fuels and eradication of rain forests. Whatever the cause most people now agree that action needs to be taken to try and protect our environment and civilian populations from experiencing further devastation and loss of life.

Corby Town 1 Coleshill Town 0 - Northern Premier League, Division One Midlands Corby is a town in Northamptonshire, located 23 miles north-east of Northampton. The Corby Pole Fair is an annual event that has taken place every 20 years since 1862, in celebration of a royal charter. The 1942 fair was not held due to the Second World War; it took place five years later. The most recent pole fair was held on Friday 3 June 2022, to coincide with The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The town was at one time known as “Little Scotland” due to the large number of Scottish workers who came to Corby for its steelworks. The football club was established in 1948, taking over from Stewarts & Lloyds as the main team in the town. The new team contained a mix of Stewart & Lloyds and new players. Competing in the United Counties League, the club won back-to-back league titles in 195051 and 1951-52, after which they joined the Midland League. Over the years the club has also competed in the Southern League, Northern Premier League, and Conference North. Currently they play in the Northern Premier League, Division One HavingMidlands.played previously at Occupation Road and Rockingham Triangle (an athletics stadium), the club moved to Steel Park in 2011. The football ground is adjacent to the athletics stadium, the town’s rugby club also play a few The

DUNSTABLE TOWN FC MATCHDAY PROGRAMME 45 pass that ground as you approach Steel Park. This venue is on the edge of town. However, you do not have to walk very far to find refreshment as there are a couple of public houses close by. The Samuel Lloyd (JD Wetherspoon) on the Rockingham Leisure Park, was as far as I got on this extremely hot day. My choice of Dancing Dragonfly (5%) from Pheasantry Brewery (Nottinghamshire) proved sufficient and I followed this with more of the same, ensuring ample hydration. This ale was so good that (unusually) I did not get round to sampling the other guest beer on offer! Steel Park is a decent ground for Level 8 in English football. The main stand offers a superb view and on another day I might have sat there. On this occasion I opted for the equally impressive James Ashworth Stand behind one of the goals. This enormous, raised terrace is dedicated to a local lad posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross after being killed in Afghanistan in 2012. The view from this stand was excellent and provided much needed shelter from the scorching sun. The remainder of the ground is open, the opposite side to the main stand backs on to the rear of the stand at the athletics stadium. There are two refreshment areas and a large clubhouse building at the other end containing a spacious bar and function area. It was interesting to see that Scotch Pies were on sale at the ground, but perhaps not surprising in view of the town’s links to that part of the UK. Full credit to all the players for even attempting to play in the heat. The pitch was greener than I expected after recent weeks and proved a good surface. Visitors Coleshill Town started brightly and could have notched a couple of early goals. A red card for Corby Town in the first period threatened to spoil their day, but in the second half Man of the Match Tsaguim Florian scored the all-important goal. Sadly, already on a yellow card he was subsequently dismissed on 90 minutes, when after a whistle, he kicked the ball into the net. I guess it leaves a referee with little option, when being assessed, there is that added pressure. Attendance: 430 Admission: Tea:TeamProgramme:£10:00/£6:00£2:00(36pages)Sheet:50p£1:00

The Crooked Billet is right next to the ground and serves great food and good real ales but does get busy on a weekend. If travelling by public transport, a pit stop at The Horn close to St Albans station would be recommended or a short walk to the Robin Hood. Another option is the Three Horseshoes on Hatfield Road where the bus drops you off, which serves London Pride and Doom Bar.
