Welcome to the management, players, supporters, and everyone connected to Shefford Town & Campton ahead of this evening’s league fixture. Congratulations go to Shefford Town & Campton for their impressive victory in the FA Cup away at Grays Athletic on Saturday. They inflicted our solitary defeat this season a couple of weeks ago in the FA Cup, so we are well aware of the task ahead of us this evening.

Like most people in the stadium, I was surprised to not only see a free kick given against us but then the referee summons Luke over very vociferously. The referee’s initial decision was a yellow card, a melee then breaks out after their physio starts a fracas on the pitch. One thing my players always do is stick together and that was once again evident on Saturday.

During this point the linesman on our side gets involved and much to my surprise and disappointment Luke’s yellow was upgraded to a red! I felt gutted for Luke Dunstan and my 1st point at half time was to ensure he knew that we were in full support for him. During this situation Charlie Jones is then shown a yellow card for I am still not sure why. Their

adjust on Saturday and full credit to my players we adapted exceptionally well. 25 minutes in and Luke Dunstan on his debut was given a red card which was a long-protracted process if ever I have seen one. Luke put a robust challenge in that the opponent came out 2nd best in.

Where do I even begin to start with Saturday’s game at home to London Colney? Firstly, as much as I would love to be brutally honest about certain aspects of the officiating on Saturday the sanctions, I would face wouldn’t be worth it so I will be careful with my reflection on the game and speak factually. We started the game well and very much on the front foot on a long and dry pitch which wasn’t easy to play. It was a contrast from the week before at home to Baldock Town where the pitch was short and slick that allowed us to move the ball at a higher tempo. We had to

“every one of my players on the day delivered in really points.”deservedandcircumstanceschallenginggotawell-3

Every one of my players on the day delivered in really challenging circumstances and got a well-deserved 3 points. Our ruthlessness on the day really pleased me. Whilst it is easy to heap praise on the goal scorers, I thought everyone performed on the day. My favourite moment of the day was from our attacking corner they broke away and 8 of my players sprinted to get goal side of the ball and stop the attack despite us being 5-1 up. The atmosphere and camaraderie within the group is great to see and will be vital this season especially when times get tough.

DUNSTABLE TOWN FC MATCHDAY PROGRAMME 3

The support was intense and outstanding on Saturday so thank you to every one of you. 8 games played, 6 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss is nowhere near perfect, and I always want and demand more of myself and others. I am thoroughly enjoying the journey so far so let’s hope we are still saying this at the end of April.

Joe Deeney

A superb interception from Kyle DavisonGordon who carried on his run. Kyle

Within 4 minutes of that adversity, we were rightfully 2-0 up. Joe Sellers-West with his 1st goal of the season took his goal well from an excellent cross from Harry Beaumont. I was delighted for Joe as he has been playing well just lacking that elusive 1st goal. Kyle Faulkner then scored to double our lead with a wonderful goal. Kyle Davison-Gordon played an excellent pass into Kyle who secured possession superbly beat a couple of defenders and dispatched into the back of the net.

physio who thought he was Connor McGregor in his prime is then shown a yellow card for in the words of the referee “he is a physio so can’t be sent off”! Lesson learned from that situation! Perhaps at some point this season you might see me donning the Physio bag!

Within 4 minutes of the restart, we conceded a sloppy goal from our perspective that gave London Colney a moment’s lift. It was also at this point we lost Tolu Ikuyinminu to a groin strain which doesn’t look too serious, but the risk of a long layoff meant that we had to be sensible. The 12 minutes that followed London Colney’s goal were simply sensational. We scored 3 goals inside 9 minutes, and I was so proud. I am told it was our 3rd goal where I ended up doing my best impression of former Dunstable Town manager, Barry Fry tearing up the touchline to celebrate. It was sheer elation on my part because the adversity we were facing was beyond belief.

Please keep the great support coming and enjoy tonight’s game.

Faulkner played an inch perfect pass for Kyle Davison-Gordon who finished superbly with his right foot. The 4th saw a 2nd goal for Kyle Faulkner after some outstanding work down the left-hand channel by Joe Sellers-West. Joe got to the bye line and then had the vision and quality to lift a pass across for Kyle to finish superbly well. Charlie Jones started the move with an outstanding side winder. The 5th was out of the top draw from Kyle Faulkner that rightfully saw him get his hat trick. Kyle took the opposition defender on and whipped an unstoppable strike into the far corner. I was so pleased for Kyle; he thoroughly deserved his hat trick.

We train weekly on our defensive shape and the players were excellent at delivering the game plan. The messages at half time were around intelligent defending and emotional control which I must be honest was incredibly difficult.

in the Beds Senior Cup to look forward.

I was one of the Club’s first owners and was elected as a Director of the Club at the last AGM by the other owners. I am the Director of Specialist Community Projects. My job is to help steer the Club through all the changes that will take place due to climate change.

After defeat in the FA cup the team came out 4-0 winners on a wet evening at Creasey Park vs Baldock Town in the Gladwish Challenge Trophy. We will play Moulton here at Creasey Park in the next round currently pencilled in for Saturday 29th October and we’re still involved in other cup competitions including the FA Vase and of course have the one and only “El Creaseyco” vs AFC Dunstable on the 15th November

In their own words; Pledgeball is a way to encourage millions of people in the football community to make a small, easy change to their lifestyle to collectively have a big impact on our planet. Fans, players, clubs, grassroots teams – everyone can get involved.

da N r ober T s

Good evening and welcome back to League action. A warm welcome back to Creasey Park to all the players officials and fans from Shefford Town & Campton.

I know you won’t need reminding that it was today’s opponents who ended our FA Cup. We weren’t at our best and didn’t deserve to go through. Congratulations to Shefford on their victory and we wish them every success in the next round.

Come on you blues

All of us as owners and fans can look to do things to help with environmental issues. Six games will be chosen throughout the season, then you can go onto the Pledgeball site and make your pledge for that week. There are over 60 options for you to choose from, and you can do as many as you like. Maybe for the game that week you might walk to Creasey Park instead of drive or perhaps have two plant-based meals that week. As I recently explained to one fellow director who is already cutting down on his dairy intake, it really is that easy.

I’m hoping that we can start next Monday 12th September and be ready for our home game against London Colney. If any incentive was needed the person or team who saves the most CO2 will win a Anyprize.interest

Shefford is a town and civil parish located in Central Bedfordshire. At the 2001 census it had a population of 4,928 and was estimated to have grown to 5,770 by 2007. The population at the 2011 Census had risen to 5,881.

In 1960–61, the league championship came to Shefford, and the club added the North Beds Charity Cup to its trophy cabinet during the same week. The following season saw a drastic change in fortunes, as the team finished second from bottom – the club reacted by arranging a move back to the South

Founded in 1910, the club played its first football in September when it began to enter a team into the Biggleswade and District Junior League. Playing home matches at Ivel Road, the team contested this local competition until 1949–50, when Shefford began to enter its team into the South Midlands League. The side won the Beds Senior Cup that season, a feat it repeated in 1953. After finishing runners-up in the Beds Senior Cup, the following year, winning it again in 1955 and capping these feats with two successive league championships, Shefford Town started to contest the Parthenon League against teams from further afield – some away trips took the team as far as London. In the new league, Shefford finished as runnersup in the first season before spending two more years in the competition. After three years, the long journeys and sparse league programme led the club to join the more local United Counties League.

10th tier of the English football league system in the Spartan South Midlands Football League Division One. The club also has a reserve side competing in Premier Division of the Bedfordshire County Football League and U23 and development teams appearing in the same league structure

The River Flit and the River Hit run through the town. The Flit runs from Flitwick and joins the River Ivel on the edge of Shefford. The Ivel eventually joins the River Great Ouse just north of Sandy. The name Shefford is derived from sheep-ford because there had been a sheep market and ford crossings over the two rivers that run through the town. Shefford Hardwick was a hamlet located west of the parish, north of Ampthill Road. The rural settlement became a civil parish in 1858 but was merged into the parish of Shefford in 1933 as the farmstead expanded.

During World War II an entire Jewish children’s community came into being in Shefford as 500 pupils from Judith Grunfeld’s school were billeted in and around the town. The school was moved in 1939 and remained in Shefford until 1945. This was part of “Operation Pied Piper” where schools were moved in anticipation of wartime bombing. A book was written about this time, titled “Shefford: The Story of a Jewish School Community in Evacuation, 1939-1945”, telling the story of the evacuated school. Shefford Town & Campton Football Club (The Bluemen) are based in the town of Shefford, Bedfordshire. The team plays its home matches at Shefford Sports Club on Hitchin Road in Shefford and at Campton Playing Fields, Rectory Road in Campton. The club is competing at the

Midlands League. The team came third during the first season back in the division, and in 1973–74 the team finished as runners-up. However, the club was relegated in 1975–76. Success didn’t come back to Ivel Road until the early 1980s – in 1982–83 Shefford lifted the Division One title and finished the following season as league champions. During 1983–84, Shefford also won the North Beds Charity Cup, the Biggleswade Knockout contest, and the Bedfordshire Intermediate Cup. The North Beds Charity and Biggleswade Knockout double was repeated the following year.

The club has had success both on and off the pitch in recent years since its reformation, the club were crowned Bedfordshire County Premier Division Winners in 2011–12, 2017–18 and 2018–19. The Bedfordshire County League Britannia Cup was won in both 2011 & 2014, 2019 and the East Beds Charity Cup was won by the Reserve team in 2015. The Club has also finished runners up in the Biggleswade knockout cup in 2015, 2016 & 2017.

At the end of 2018–19 season Shefford announced its intentions to seek promotion into the Spartan South Midlands Football League, they duly wrapped up the Bedfordshire County League title and passed the relevant ground grading, so the club stepped back into the league it folded out of back in Under1994 the Stewardship of Kane Dougherty and James Taylor the club topped division 1 during the curtailed season of 20/21 and finally guided us to promotion via the playoffs during the 21/22 season as well as winning the Divison 1 Cup. l

season, and assigned a place in Division Two, at level 13 of the English football league system. In 2010 Shefford Town merged with near neighbours Campton.

During the late 1980s the club stagnated, as the team tumbled back into Division One after finishing bottom in 1989–90. After three uneventful seasons, Shefford Town were moved to the Senior Division on league re-organisation. Though performances improved, with the team finishing fifth in 1993–94, the club was wound up and played its final match on 18 May Shefford1994.Town Football Club was reformed in 2009 by Dan Pinkerton and Graham Earl, who had been involved in local youth football. The new club was accepted into the Bedfordshire County Football League for the 2009–10

Shefford’s historic ground was on Ivel Road in Shefford. When the club folded in 1994 the land was left derelict until development started on it in the late 2000s. This paved the way for the new facility on Hitchin Road to be built. The old football ground is now a street known as Old Bridge Way, which is just off Ivel Road.

Shefford Town & Campton FC play fixtures at two local grounds, Rectory Road in Campton has been the club’s home since the 1920s and is still used by the club today, a typical village playing field with purpose-built Step 7 changing facilities, what is remarkable is that these facilities were brought into the 21st century through the hard work of the club’s players and management to ensure they could continue to play out of the club’s spiritual home.

DUNSTABLE TOWN FC MATCHDAY PROGRAMME 33 ssmfl premier divisio N

The half ended with the Blues sitting comfortable with a two-goal lead.

Three minutes later, and it was effectively game over. Charlie Jones kicked low and true to Davison-Gordon who played Joe Sellers-West in down the left-hand side. Sellers-West advanced, beat his man, got to the byline, and crossed for Faulkner to half volley the ball home.

The two Kyles would reverse roles in the second half for Dunstable’s third goal, and the same combination would be at the heart of Dunstable’s fifth and final goal of the afternoon.

Joe Sellers-West was on target on 28 minutes to force the ball home following a partially cleared corner, and within a minute of the re-start Kyle Faulkner got the first of his hat trick with a powerful drive just outside the box following good work from Kyle Davison Gordon out on the left.

Dunstable Town overcame adversity and triumphed in a bad-tempered match against London Colney at Creasey Park on Saturday.

As we neared half-time J’Ardell Stirling produced a piece of inventive trickery, but the London Colney keeper saved well with his legs to deny Stirling what would have been a contender for goal of the season. Picking the ball up deep in defence, J’Ardell strode forward, brushed aside defenders, played a neat one two and found himself one on one with the keeper. The keeper doing well to deny Stirling what would have been his first goal for the Club.

On Tuesday night Shefford Town & Campton return to Creasey Park for a League game. Deeney will want to see a better overall performance from his players than in the FA Cup defeat two weeks ago.

Kyle Davison Gordon defending out on the left played an inch perfect pass for Kyle Faulkner to run on to out muscle his defender, cut inside and fire low and hard into the far corner.

maTch repor T

The last time the Blues hit five goals was against London Colney away on Saturday November 13th last year.

Saturday’s win makes it six wins from eight games in all competitions for the Blues, this season. However, don’t expect any complacency from Head Coach, Joe Deeney.

However, any thoughts the away side may have had about getting on level terms were dashed just three minutes later when Faulkner won a challenge in the middle of the park and found himself free to run on goal. He beat his defender and as the keeper advanced, squared the ball to Kyle Davison-Gordon to sidefoot the ball home and record his first goal for the Blues.

But, within four minutes of the restart, London Colney got themselves a lifeline. Dunstable failed to clear the ball on the left and were punished on 49 minutes when the away side pressed hard and beat the Dunstable defence leaving Muyonge in acres of space to halve the deficit.

The fifth and final Dunstable goal came on the hour mark and again the two Kyles were at the heart of it.

The 2022 season finished in a bitter way for Town. Beaten by a more physical Tattenhoe side to the league title on the last day of the season and then losing the cup final. Bounce back is now key.

The new management team is experienced, passionate and with wide footballing knowledge. This should get the best out of the players. It carefully builds on the foundations of the previous manager who adeptly led the team. Their aim is clear. It is lofty … the double or nothing!

was therefore exciting. The team played some excellent passing football that culminated in a Tournament win at Dunstable. Town made every semi final and usually the final. Town were never outclassed. The aim was bonding a new group of players together. This was further achieved at a day at the water park on the inflatables.

Pre-seasonbeat.

There has been a deliberate shift in culture, expectations and playing staff. Physicality, quality, pace and creativity have been added in all areas of the park. The side has been balanced out and while some long serving and talented players have parted company with the Blues, the side is probably the best it has ever been.

news across the five nations we have plenty of stadiums ready today that meet the criteria - although only three of the nation have 60,000+ capacity stadiums which could host a final.

Based on the working assumption that 10 stadiums are used, it would be likely that England would get 4 (Wembley, Old Trafford - assuming it is significantly redeveloped, Newcastle United and perhaps Leicester City to give a Midlands presence), Scotland 2 (Hampden Park and Murrayfield or Celtic Park depending if a Glasgow/ Edinburgh split is preferable), Wales 2 (Millennium Stadium and Cardiff City Stadium), Northern Ireland (Windsor Park) and Republic of Ireland (Aviva Stadium). There will almost certainly be some debated on the English stadiums - after all there are currently 29 English football stadiums who have capacities above 30,000.

1 stadium with 60,000 seats

As part of the successful bid criteria, any nation(s) must have to have the following:

In fact, in London alone we currently have four stadiums (five if you count Twickenham) that have capacities of

The question will be if the host nations want to maximise revenue through ticket sales, or take the tournament to the four corners of the nations? If it is the latter then could we see games played at Brighton, Milton Keynes and Southampton as we did in the Women’s Euros this summer.

Most tournaments recent major international tournaments have used a minimum of 10 stadiums - such as the 2024 championships which are being hosted by Germany and the 2016 event in TheFrance.good

1 stadium (preferably 2) with 50,000 seats

Earlier this year it was confirmed that the combined Football Associations of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland will be submitting a formal bid to host UEFA 2028.

Alas, if it is the former, then expect only the national stadiums plus a token few others to be used - hardly something that will get most pulses racing.

4 stadiums with 40,000 seats

Despite a derisory announcement that Russia will be submitting a bid, it looks like the tournament is heading back to these shores. All good so far. But once the official boxes are ticked, and the tournament host is confirmed in September 2023, the bun-fighting will start as to who will be hosting the games.

60,000+ and three more than are (or will be) over 30,000 so could potentially host a tournament on its own!

Sporting Clube de Portugal was founded in 1906, thanks to a loan that Jose Alfredo Holtreman Roquette received from his grandfather, the Viscount of Alvalade. Along with rival Benfica and FC Porto, the club has never been relegated from the topflight of Portugese

Lisbon is the capital and the largest city in Portugal. Situated at the mouth of the Tagus River, it is the westernmost capital of a mainland European country. The city is rich in architecture; Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque, Modern and Postmodern constructions being found all over Lisbon. The city is crossed by historical boulevards and monuments along the main thoroughfares. During World War II Lisbon was one of the very few neutral, open Atlantic ports and a major gateway for refugees to the United States.

Following on from the morning excursion to see the U19 UEFA Youth League match at Alcochete, an opportunity was taken to refuel with a couple of leisurely beers at a restaurant/bar. Whilst enjoying said refreshment, we noticed Mr Levy and other club representatives waiting outside a restaurant opposite for

football. The club has won the league on 23 occasions, including 1982, when a domestic double was achieved under charismatic English manager, Malcolm Allison.

The stadium is rather impressive, and I should imagine that a good view of the pitch is afforded from most areas. As is often the case at continental stadia, the section allocated to the away support, is less advantageous in that an enormous section of netting has to be looked through. This will be in place for all matches and is not just there for foreign visitors. Considering how laid-back Lisbon is for visitors, this is a disappointment. There is cover on all sides of the stadium, which was welcome during such a rainy few days.

their transport. It appeared that they had been entertained by officials of the host club. The establishment looked rather nice and was only a short distance away from the central area where most Spurs fans had congregated before the match. To reach Estadio Jose Alvalade from the centre is very straightforward using the Lisbon metro system. The Green Line takes you directly to the stadium alighting at Campo Grande. However, when we boarded the metro service, it was a train specifically for Spurs supporters taking us non-stop to the next station which is Telheiras situated at the end of the line. From here we were escorted to the away section of the stadium and in no time were inside awaiting the next instalment of this overhyped Champions League experience.

Despite results suggesting otherwise, Tottenham Hotspur have not been firing on all cylinders this season. A few players, by their own standards, have been off form and to reach midSeptember before suffering a first defeat has been an achievement. Both goals for the more adventurous home side were scored in the 90th minute onwards and what looked like a welcome point for Spurs soon evaporated.

After being locked in the ground at the end of the match, the visiting support was eventually escorted back to the metro station. Once again, we were transported non-stop back to the centre, where the obligatory purchase of pasteis de Nata (custard tarts with puff pastry) was a more fulfilling experience than the football!

St Albans City is a few stops on from Luton on the train. From there a 15 minute bus journey on the 301 or 302 route with drop you at the Three Horseshoes, about a mile from the ground.

The Crooked Billet is right next to the ground and serves great food and good real ales but does get busy on a weekend. If travelling by public transport, a pit stop at The Horn close to St Albans station would be recommended or a short walk to the Robin Hood. Another option is the Three Horseshoes on Hatfield Road where the bus drops you off, which serves London Pride and Doom Bar.
