FROM the boardroom Good afternoon and welcome back to Creasey Park, for our second home game in 7 days. We welcome the players, officials and supporters of Thame United and hope, save for the result, that you have a pleasant time with us. It’s been a difficult week at the club. We largely dominated possession against Barton last Saturday and ended up pointless, and at Bedford on Tuesday night everything was overshadowed by the serious injury to young Rio Dasilva. We wish him a swift recovery and thank all those who provided care and concern for him, particularly those at Bedford who went above and beyond. Just a point about the lads reaction to that situation. With 10 men for the last 15 minutes ,they had the ball in the net twice (one inexplicably ruled out) and had seen Bedford closing up shop after 5 minutes of the second half. As we continue to build this ‘pathway’ club a big shout out to the Development Team who enjoyed a penalty shootout win at Cranfield recently. Young Ben Lincoln proving an excellent shop stopper in this pressure situation. There is so much to be positive about and we are always excited when a young player makes the next step up. If you have the ability and application, you will get a chance at this club. Off the pitch we are launching our Crowd Funding appeal in cooperation with MIND
and MIND BLMK. Look out for our Press Releases. We continue to be proud to working so closely with the MIND organisation. We’re also close to showcasing our Promotional video. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it, as we seek to demonstrate what this club is now all about. Another reminder about our 100 Club. With now nearly 70 numbers taken we are well on the way to our 100 target. For just £3 per week you can be part of this draw, which both benefits the club and provides a good prize fund. This is our last home game before our local derby against AFC Dunstable on Boxing Day. Just a reminder that this fixture now kicks off at 1pm . Please bring friends and family to this game, we are looking forward to a really competitive afternoon . Finally, and as always, lets really get behind the team this afternoon.
Enjoy the m atch Neil

thaMe UNited hiStORy Thame United were formed in 1883 making it one of Oxfordshires’ oldest clubs. The early years were spent in various Oxfordshire Leagues and in 1906, 1909 and 1910 Thame won the Oxfordshire Senior Cup and the Senior League in 1907,1908, 1910, 1930 and 1931. A switch to the Hellenic League then brought further success culminating in the Hellenic League title in 1961-62 and 1969-70, as well as being runners up in 1960-61, 197677 and 1980-81. The Oxfordshire Senior Cup was won in both 1976 and 1981 but a poor spell in the mid eighties preceded a crossing of the pyramid in 1988-89 to join the South Midlands League. The Club finished runners up in both 1988-89 and 1989-90 before eventually winning the title in 1990-91. Thame received the green light to join the Diadora League in 1991/92. 199495 saw the Club win the Division 2 Championship with 93 points - an 11 point margin. In 1995/96 the Club reached the 3rd Round Qualifying in the FA Cup and the FA Trophy. In the league we finished a creditable 13th in our first ever season in the Isthmian League Division One. Andy Sinnott was appointed first team manager in June 1997 and, with a dramatically reduced operating budget, the side were relegated into Ryman Division Two. The Club bounced straight back into Ryman Division One and reached the semi-finals of the FA Vase. 1999/2000 saw the Club
come within two points of achieving promotion to the Premier Division. 2000/2001 season the team lead the way for most of the season, putting together a club record of 12 consecutive league wins but a slump in form in the latter part of the season resulted in a 5th place finish. A mid-table finish followed in 2001/2002 season but the Oxfordshire Senior Cup was retained. Mark West was appointed player/ manager when Andy left United during the Summer of 2003. In October 2003 the Club reached the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup for the first time in its history, before being beaten 1-2 by Conference side Farnborough Town. After a mid-table finish the Club moved to the newly formed Southern League, Division 1 West. In October 2004 the Club again reached the FA Cup 4th qualifying round and finished the season 11th in the league. Mark West left to join Slough Town and defender Tony Joyce was appointed player /manager. By July 2005 the Club were in financial trouble and, following a visit from Bailiffs acting on behalf of HMRC, the landlord enforced a clause in the tenancy agreement and evicted the club from Windmill Road. However, shortly thereafter Thame United reached a formal agreement with the new owners of Windmill Road that secured ÂŁ1.7 million to enable a new facility to be
thaMe UNited hiStORy constructed in the town and, after several options had been explored and found to be available, settled on Church Farm on the northern edge of the town. Whilst the Club progressed procurement of the new site, and the necessary planning permission, a ground share agreement was reached with neighbours Aylesbury United and, with the side struggling at the foot of the Southern League Division 1 West, Tony Joyce resigned in December 2005, with a new joint managerial partnership of Richard Searl and Alan Thorne appointed. Relegation to the Hellenic League was confirmed later in the season. A ground share agreement was reached with AFC Wallingford for the 2006/07 season. Mark West returned to the Club mid-way through the season but could not save the Club from relegation to the Hellenic League Division 1 East. The 2007/08 season provided greater stability for the Club, with Mark West and new assistant, Frank Thompson, looking after first team affairs. A mid-table finish resulted, which was followed by a ninth placed finish in 2008/09. 2009/10 saw the Club win the Division 1 East title by six points and reclaim their place in the Premier Division. The 2010/11 season was the most significant in the Club’s recent history. With work on a new £3.1m ground at Meadow View Park commencing in March 2010, United returned to Thame at the ASM Stadium on 11 December 2010, just
over five years after their enforced eviction from the town. Boasting eight pitches, a floodlit 3G training pitch and 8000sqft clubhouse, United now have one of the best sporting facilities in the County. The official opening against Oxford United on 18th January 2011 set a record crowd of 1,382. Season 2016-17 was one of the most successful in the recent history of the Club. Going the whole league season without losing at home, United were crowned Hellenic League Premier Division Champions on the final day of the season, defeating Henley Town 9-0 to over-turn a seven goal deficit. United were duly promoted to the Evo-Stik Southern Football League, returning after a spell of twelve years away. In the first season back at Step 4, United finished in a comfortable mid-table position, enjoying a successful run in the FA Trophy.

RePORtiNG iN
dUNStabLe tOWN 0-1 baRtON ROveRS Barton came out of the traps first and were passing the ball round confidently and putting early pressure on the Blues goal. In their first real creative move, Marius Patru crossed a dangerous ball into the box from the right but was unable to find an advancing blue shirt. Fellow countryman, Daniel Trif’s efforts suffered the same fate a few minutes later. On 8 minutes though, a Barton corner from the left was not adequately cleared and the ball ricocheted into the back of the Dunstable goal off a Dunstable boot. When lady luck is not shining on you these things happen. On another occasion the ball is booted safely upfield, just as on any other “99 times out of 100” the Didcot equaliser doesn’t go in, nor does the Aylesbury Utd first goal. But on these small twists of fate are matches now being decided and the Dunstable task grew that little bit bigger after this early set back. Saul Williams let fly on the quarter hour stinging Gary Malone’s fingertips, and a minute later a long clearance from Nathan Harness appeared to bounce awkwardly for Malone but ultimately landed safely on the roof of the net. Malone was on good form yesterday and saved bravely from Chris Wreh as Dunstable turned up the pressure. The approach play was attractive to the eye, but Barton defended well and a lack of precision in the final ball left the Blues frustrated at not being able to find what would have been a deserved equaliser. However Barton Rovers hadn’t come to park the bus and after the half hour, Gary Jones let rip which needed all of Nathan Harness good positioning and safe hands to deal safely with.
Further pressure from Dunstable as the first half neared its conclusion saw more shots from Arel Amu and Gedeon Okito but no change in the scoreline. The second half saw plenty of Dunstable possession and pressure but even bringing on substitutes Charlie Black, Erin Amu and Jonny Barnett could not influence the score-line. The Barton Rovers Twitter feed at the end of the match read; “Credit to Dunstable Town a great display of flowing football” And that it was. Fast, one touch and intelligent running, but yesterday the Barton defence could not be breached as hard as the men in Blue shirts tried. Gary Malone kept a clean sheet with some smart saves and although Chris Wreh had the ball in the back of the net it came after referee, Andrew Humphrie’s, whistle so was chalked off. Rio Dasilva tested Malone’s agility but the latter was up to the task and as much as Saul Williams probed and looked for chinks in the Barton armour, captain Paul Andrews marshalled his troops superbly to make sure the three points travelled back up the A6 to Sharpenhoe Rd.

8 December 1929 - The Beginning Of A Beautiful Rivalry On 8 December 1929, Lazio and Roma faced off for the first time, with Roma winning thanks to a late goal from striker Rodolfo Volk. Tensions existed between the two teams even before that first match. Roma were founded in 1927, consolidating three other clubs based in the Italian capital in an effort to build a team that could compete with the more powerful northern clubs. Lazio, founded in 1900, resisted inclusion in that group, the only major team from Rome to do so. Their first meeting was a Serie A match, played at Lazio’s Campo Rondinella. Roma claimed victory as Volk’s 73rd-minute goal was the only one of the day. Since then, they have extended the total to 181 times, with Roma winning 53
to Lazio’s 38. Roma have dominated the derby recently, going undefeated for seven matches, with five wins and two draws. They also hold the record for the longest winning streak, however, taking six consecutive matches from 1950 to 1953. The rivalry--known as the Derby della Capitale-has become one of the more heated derbies in football, with several incidents of violence on both sides. The worst moment came in 1979, when a Roma supporter fired a flare into the crowd, killing Lazio supporter Vincenzo Paparelli.

The club was established in 1919 as Brotherhoods Engineering Works. They won the league in their first season, but left at the end of the 1922–23 season. The club transferred to Division Three of the Peterborough & District League, which they won in 1925–26, earning promotion to Division Two. The club was dormant in 1929–30 and 1932–33, after which it dropped into Division Three North. Despite only finishing eleventh in 1936– 37, they were elevated to Division Two for the 1937–38 season. After World War II the club were placed in Division One, where they remained until finishing bottom of the table in 1948–49, resulting in relegation to Division Two. In 1952 the division was renamed Division One as the division above became the Premier Division, but the club finished bottom in 1952–53 and were relegated to the new Division Two. In 1963–64 they were relegated again to Division Three South, but returned to Division Two after a single season. In 1973–74 Brotherhoods Engineering Works were relegated to Division Three South for a second time, but returned to Division Two after winning the Division Three South title in 1975–76. Relegated
again in 1979–80, the club returned to Division Two at the first attempt as Division Three South champions, and were promoted to Division One at the end of the 1982–83 season after finishing third. The 1987–88 season saw the club finish as Division One runners-up and earn promotion to the Premier Division. In 1999 the club changed its name to Bearings Direct, and then again in 2001 to Peterborough Sports. In 2006–07 they won the Premier Division, and in 2012–13 were promoted to Division One of the United Counties League after finishing third. In 2015–16 Peterborough Sports were Division One champions, earning promotion to the Premier Division. They also won the League Cup, beating Holbeach United on penalties in the final, as well as the Northants Junior Cup and the Hitchingbrooke Cup. The following season saw them win the Premier Division with 112 points, earning promotion to Division One South of the Northern Premier League. they also retained the Hitchingbrooke Cup. In 2018 the club were transferred to Division One East of the Southern League.
ON the ROad With the bLUeS The current club was established in 1962 and joined Division Three South of the Peterborough & District League. In 1963 they were renamed Yaxley British Legion and in 1965 were promoted to Division Two. Although they were relegated back to Division Three South in 1967, they returned to Division Two after winning Division Three South in 1968–69. They won Division Two in 1970–71 and were promoted to Division One. The following year they dropped British Legion from their name. After finishing second in the league for four consecutive seasons, they were promoted to the Premier Division in 1975, the same season in which they won the Huntingdonshire Senior Cup for the first time. They following season they retained the Senior Cup. The club won the Premier Division in 1976–77 and again in 1983–84, a season in which won the Hunts Senior Cup for the second successive season. In 1986 they were renamed Coalite Yaxley as part of a sponsorship deal. In 1988 they became founder members of Division One of the Eastern Counties League. A change of sponsor in 1990 saw the club renamed Clarksteel Yaxley. In 1992 the club
were expelled from the ECL as their Middleton Road ground did not meet the league’s requirements (it was in a park, had no stands and needed temporary dugouts to be put in place on matchdays) and plans for a new ground appeared to have stalled. The club dropped into the Huntingdonshire League. In 1994 they joined the new West Anglia League and were its first champions. In 1995 they finally moved to a new ground and were accepted into Division One of the United Counties League. They won the division at the second attempt, and were promoted to the Premier Division. The club won the Hunts Senior Cup in 1998–99, 2003–04, 2004–05 (a season in which they also won the Hunts Premier Cup) and 2007–08, as well as the league cup in 2005–06 and 2016–17. The 2017–18 season saw the club win the Premier Division title, earning promotion to Division One Central of the Southern League.
