inside the boardroom Having seen the highs and lows of the season, it’s incredibly pleasing to witness our fine vein of form lately. A warm welcome to everyone involved with Tring Athletic this afternoon, with many former acquaintances renewed, I am hopeful they remember which changing room to go to! Having seen the highs and lows of the season, it’s incredibly pleasing to witness our fine vein of form lately. Having gone behind in three of the last four games, yet come away undefeated in all of them shows how Joe and his team has installed a “never say die” attitude with the whole squad
The commitment and dedication shown by my colleagues throughout the last 18 months, to serve their local communities, it’s an honour to be working alongside them (both as my job and with the club) so a very warm welcome to all today If you wanted to help us further with the Coop become a member today and choose us as your local cause, which will help us realise our ambitions of helping the physical & mental health of Dunstable, at coop.co.uk/Membership
In the first of the “meet your directors” I’ve been asked to talk a bit about what I do for the club, within my role as Treasurer
In the meantime, thank you for coming today, enjoy the game and try not to laugh too much at my “efforts” on the tannoy!
This may not appear to be the most glamorous of roles, and whilst it means spending many hours looking after the clubs’ finances it’s a role I undertake with pride! With our past littered with financial strife, it’s an absolute pleasure to be able to be that steady hand on the tiller guiding us towards our sustainable future
C’mon you Blues!! Matt Carrington
Another aspect of my role is helping Abby & Brad with the social media with me delivering your match day updates via Twitter, etc. Whilst it is sometimes difficult to remain impartial with my reporting, when I put out one of the great gifs the guys produce, and it receives great feedback it makes the freezing fingers worthwhile! Away from the club, I work as a Store Manager for the Co-op and to celebrate our connection with them through the Local Community Fund, we have invited my colleagues along to the game DUNSTABLE TOWN v Tring Athletic - 3

from the bench The changing room is the best I have worked with in terms of characters in over 17 years of coaching Welcome to the Management, Players, Committee members and staff from Tring Athletic for today’s game. I would like to begin with a huge well done to Richard (Scottie), Dean and Peter for completing their walk from Dunstable to Harpenden and their monumental fundraising efforts for a wonderful cause. I doubt the Regiment could have picked a worse day to do their walk. The horrendous conditions and desire to complete their walk personifies why this club means so much to us all. The Management and players massively appreciate the work and efforts from you. What a difference a calendar month makes on the pitch that is for sure! It was 4 weeks before to the day against Harpenden Town where we were comprehensively beaten by Flackwell Heath. Since then, recruitment has played a massive part in us turning results around that has seen us go 4 league games unbeaten. We as a Management team always look at the characters of players that we bring in first and foremost and that has reaped rewards over the last 4 games. We have obtained 8 out of 12 possible points which is a decent return. We always want maximum points, of course we do however see progression over the last few weeks, and we are taking steps in the right direction. We have made a further 2 additions to the squad at the time of writing that we are delighted with. The 1st signing is that of 21-year-old centre back J’ardell Stirling from Step 3 Wingate and Finchley. J’ardell is a player I worked with at Luton Town and then for 3 years on the Luton Town Cedars project where he really developed
and flourished in a full-time environment. He has been playing regularly for Wingate at a higher level and I am delighted to be able to welcome him to the club. Our 2nd addition is the arrival of 21-year-old Jake Stronge from Newport Pagnell Town FC. Jake is an electric winger with an eye for goal and someone I have monitored for the past 4 years. He broke into the Newport Team at a very young age. Jake is another player we have recruited that fits the mould of what we want to take us forward. He is an exciting addition, and we are looking forward to getting to work with him. We are backed by a wonderful Chairman, Director of Football and committee of people that do so much for us as a management team so that we can concentrate on performances on the field. There are so many things that make up a football club that often supporters will not even know about! The logistics involved and delivered brilliantly by our committee is incredible. Our Kit Managers Steve and Kristy Lewington had the most unenvied task this week having to wash the kit which I believe took several washes and that is massively appreciated by all the players and staff. Our media team of Brad and Abby continue to do an outstanding job along with Matt Carrington of raising the club’s profile. The pitch side videos from our away games really go above and beyond the expectations and are always a great watch providing we win or in Saturday’s case get a last second draw.Enjoy today’s game and keep the support coming. Tring Athletic Youth FC was formed in March 1958 by a group of local men who contributed towards the purchase of 3.4 acres at Miswell Lane The cost of providing changing rooms, fencing, equipment and ownership of the ground was approximately £2,000. Committee members, players and friends carried out most of the work, including the building of the changing rooms and during the early days the team had to play on another pitch in Tring. Originally the Club was formed to provide football for youngsters aged under 21 and despite playing against adult teams they won many trophies in the West Herts Saturday League during the early 1960’s including the Division 1 title 3 times in 5 years. They then went through a lean spell and in 1971 decided to scrap the upper age limit. Many former players returned, and they had another successful period during the early 1970’s. Over the years many fine players appeared in our shirts, and many went on to play for professional/senior clubs.
In the mid-seventies the Miswell Lane ground was sold to the Council, and they had a bad time and but for the efforts of a few loyal members would have certainly folded. The Reserves were disbanded, and the First Team dropped down to Division 3. They decided to turn to youth again and gradually forced our way back up through the league and by 1986 they were competing in the Premier Division and running a Reserve side again.

In 1988 they joined the South Midlands and as a result gained senior status with the Herts FA. In 1989 they entered into a 3-year ground sharing arrangement with Isthmian League side Tring Town moving back to Miswell Lane in 1992 where the Reserves had continued to play.
F
They established themselves in the South Midlands by gaining promotion to the newly formed Senior Division in 1993.

In 1994/95 the First Team reached the final of the Senior Division Cup whilst the Reserves were finalists in the Apsley Junior Cup for the second year running. In 1996/97 they led the Senior Division throughout the season and looked favourites to win the title. However, some unlucky defeats in the last few games saw us drop down to 3rd place. In addition to our impressive league form they also had some terrific cup runs during that season, reaching the semi-final of the Herts Charity Shield and winning the prestigious St. Marys Cup, the first time they had ever achieved such heights. In 1997/98 they just missed out on the Senior Division title by the narrowest of margins to New Bradwell St Peter - a goal difference of just 2! They finished the season in fine style, suffering just 1 defeat in our last 21 league games which included a terrific run of 14 straight wins for which they won a special award from the League. In 1998/99 they picked up our first major South Midlands trophy when they won the Senior Division Cup.
They also won the St Marys Cup for the 2nd time in 3 years. In the league a terrific run of just 1 defeat in our last 28 games saw us finish in 3rd place, 4 points behind champions Holmer Green. During this magnificent run they went 15 hours without conceding a goal. The 1999/2000 season proved to be one to remember. During the summer they spent over £50k on building new changing rooms and extending the social and bar area. That meant a total of over £90k had been spent on improving the facilities at Miswell since 1993. To mark the opening of the new changing rooms they played a Watford XI in front of a huge crowd of about 1,000 people. The game was Refereed by Graham Poll and Graham Barber. They also expanded on the playing side with a third team being set up to particularly attract young players, a veteran’s side for ex-players and a Ladies side. The season turned out to be the most successful in the Club’s history. In addition to winning the Senior Division title by 11 points they also reached 5 finals. They won the Herts Charity Shield (beating Potters Bar Town 2-1), Herts Senior Centenary Trophy (Wormley Rovers 2-0) and the Cherry Red Books Trophy in its inaugural year (Bedmond Sports & Social on penalties after a 1-1 draw). They were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Letchworth in the Senior Division Cup and although they also reached the St Marys Cup final it was never played because of the backlog of fixtures. The clubs achievements were recognised by the South Midlands who awarded us the Houghton Regis Cup for achievements in outside competitions and Mick Eldridge, Ray Brimson and Richard Vincent were voted Managers of the Season. In 60 games in all competitions, they lost on only 6 occasions, a remarkable achievement. After finishing the old millennium in style, they continued our success into the new one (2000/01) by retaining the Herts Senior Centenary Trophy (again beating Wormley Rovers 2-0) and the Cherry Red Books Trophy (Virginia Water 1-0). The Reserves won the League title, and a newly formed B Team claimed the runners-up spot. The following

season (2001/02) they won the Herts Charity Shield for the 2nd time beating Letchworth 4-1. More success followed as they capture the Herts Senior Centenary Trophy for the 3rd time, to become the first club to do so. They finished 3rd in the table and won the League Cup for the 2nd time, to make 12 major trophies in 7 years. They were also finalists in the Cherry Red Books Trophy. For the 3rd year running Darrel Bodimeade won an award for the best playing surface, which is just reward for the tremendous job he does for the club. Following our failure to secure floodlights at Miswell Lane they entered an historic alliance with Tring Town to play our first and reserve team football in season 2004/05 at Pendley where lights are already in place. The focus was to be to raise the funds needed to build a new Clubhouse, the previous building burnt down in March 2003. New season at a new ground in a new division with fantastic facilities. First team finished 6th in the Premier Division and won the St Mary’s Cup for the 3rd time defeating Hemel Hempstead in the Final. They were also Runners Up in the South Midlands Floodlit Cup Final losing on penalties to Oxhey Jets. Played in the F A Vase for the first time. The Club entered the F A Cup for the 1st time in its history but was defeated in the prelim round. In a disappointing season the highlight was a victory over Watford in the Herts Senior Trophy with a large crowd enjoying a 1-0 win. Defeat in this competition came at the hands of Stevenage Borough of the Conference league. 2008/9 saw the club crowned Treble Winners SSMFL Challenge Trophy Winners - defeating Chalfont St Peter by 3-2 at Harefield United’s ground to lift this trophy in their first appearance in the final of this competiton. SSMFL Premier Division Cup Winners - Athletic defeated St Margaretsbury by 2-0 at Colney Heath’s ground to lift this trophy in their first appearance in the final. St Marys Cup Winners - Athletic defeated Leverstock Green by 2-1 at Hemel Hempstead’s ground to lift this trophy for the 4th time.
After last season’s tremendous cup haul, this year the First Team finished without a trophy however they finished third in the league, the highest position in the Club’s history. The Club also received the higher ground grading required should they be in a promotion position, so the foundations have been laid for the future. The managers and players will be hoping to put in a challenge for the title in season 2010/11. Season 2011/12 saw Julian Robinson and Tony Armitage take charge in the summer knowing that many of last year’s successful First Team had departed. A great re-building job was undertaken with a very credible 6th position achieved in the league and defeats by the odd goal in 3 cup semi-finals. A mixed season with the 1st team winning their initial F A Cup tie at Bedfont and then losing in the next round to Ashford Town after a replay. In the F A Vase they lost at first hurdle to FC Romania. In the League they finished just below halfway, lost on penalties to Hadley in the semi-final of the Premier Division Cup and were finalists in the St Mary’s Cup losing to local rivals Berkhamsted. Midway through the season Tony Armitage left and Ian Richardson stepped up from the Reserves to assist Julian Robinson. In 2014/15 the First Team finished 10th in SSMFL fielding a young side and completed their season losing by a single late goal to Hemel Hempstead and gave a credible performance in the Final of the St Mary’s Cup in front of a big crowd. The following season they won the St Mary’s Cup for the 5th time defeating Sun Sports 2-0 and finished midtable in the SSMFL Premier Division. 2019/20 will go down in history, both in the nation’s and the clubs. When the season was drawn to an early close the First Team were in second place in the Premier Division and it was also memorable, in so far as, a complete team, management and players, departed and a new Committee was formed following an Extraordinary Meeting in February 2020. MATCH REPORT saturday 27th November Harpenden Town 3 - 3 Dunstable Town The talk before the game had deservedly been about the three Dunstable supporters who had braved the elements and walked 20 km from Creasey Park to Rothamsted Park to raise money for the Club’s Blues 4 – 5K L&D Hospital appeal.
But they went about their task purposefully and energetically Benji Gray got his first goal for the Club in the 63rd minute when he took advantage of a mistake from the Harpenden defence, and Dunstable were back in the game.
Both sides battled hard for midfield supremacy and against the elements. If Harpenden had the better of the early stages, it was Dunstable who came back strongly and deservedly got back on level terms when Kyle Faulkner was on hand to lash in an equalizer from close range in the 38th minute following a corner on the left-hand side as Dunstable came back strongly.
Joe Sellers-West looked as if he’d equalized as he advanced on goal in a one on one with the keeper. Agonizingly the ball rolled past the far post and Sellers-West was denied what would have been a deserved goal for a man whose determination and persistence has been appreciated by the Dunstable faithful. It’s now five goals from nine starts for the young striker.
Twice, Joe Sellers-West weaved his way to the bye-line before crossing the ball invitingly, however on both occasions it evaded the red and black shirts. All square at half time, Dunstable were indebted to keeper Dan Gould who made a miraculous save down to his right to keep out a short range shot but by the hour mark Harpenden had scored twice, giving themselves a two-goal cushion. Their first of the two goals followed a good move from Dunstable which saw captain, Jamie Nicholls thwarted by the Harpenden keeper whose long punt down field caused problems on the sticky surface and ended up with a shot, which looked as if it was covered by Dan Gould, being deflected against a post with a yellow and green shirt being on hand to knock in the rebound.
Terrence Muchineripi came on for the final 15 minutes as Dunstable did their best to break down a strong defensive back line. Ethan Creaey ended up in referee Sam Laidler’s book as Dunstable pressed forward, but the same player was Dunstable’s saviour with a perfectly timed tackle to disposes a yellow and green shirt when he looked odds on to shoot from close range. As time ebbed away supporters began to check their watches. The goal when it came owed much to Dan Trif’s doggedness in winning the corner taken over the far side. An inswinger from Dan Naylor which appeared to get headed back invitingly for Sellers-West to grab the equalizer. A point a piece will please Dunstable more and will feel like two points dropped to Harpenden who slipped down a place to 4th in the table.
Another goal followed 10 minutes later and with an hour played Dunstable had it all to do. DUNSTABLE TOWN v Tring Athletic - 21

dunstable town under 14s lions new sponsor It was great to have our under 12s Phoenix team with us on Saturday, as well as a mixture of our under 10s Tigers, 12s Lions, totalling 17 mascots, it was a great occasion and what a performance from the team winning 1-0 against Oxhey Jets. Talking to some first team players they said having the mascots and the Regiment behind the goal makes a huge difference, so we will do our best to keep the atmosphere around the ground and keep the mascots flowing. Also it was great to see our champions from last season, the under 14s Lions all kitted out in their new gear kindly sponsored by the Steven Eagell Group, so a big thank you to them.

4 December 1965 - Spurs See Red (For The First Time In 37 Years) On 4 December 1965, Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur drew 1-1 in a league match at Turf Moor. The match was notable for the sending off of Spurs forward Frank Saul, which ended the club’s 37-year streak without a dismissal in a league match. Saul played his youth football for his hometown club of Canvey Island, then signed his first professional contract with Tottenham in 1960, in time to play for the Double-winning side of 1960-61. He stayed at White Hart Lane for eight seasons, scoring 37 goals in 116 league appearances. In 1968, he transferred to Southampton and later played for Queens Park Rangers, Millwall, and Dagenham before retiring in the late 1970s. Prior to Saul’s dismissal, the last Spurs player to be sent off in a league match was full back Cecil Poynton, who was ejected in a 2-0 loss to Stoke on 27 October 1928.

LU1 3HH Website: www.pitchero.com/clubs/crawleygreenfc Twitter: @CrawleyGreenFC TRAVELLING BY CAR From M1 Junction 10 turn onto the A1081. Keep left at the first slip road marked Harpenden, St Albans, and Local Traffic. Follow Local Traffic and take the second exit at the roundabout onto London Road sign posted Local Traffic & Stockwood Park. Proceed approximately ½ mile to the traffic lights and turn right into Cutenhoe Road. At the end of Cutenhoe Road proceed with caution straight over Park Street into the ground. Alternatively proceed along Park Street from Luton and turn left into the ground. Please note there is no access to the ground via Venue 360. TRAVELLING BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT Probably our easiest journey all season on public transport. The ground is a 10 min walk from the Arriva A route, which can be boarded at the ASDA bus stop.
