Daimler, Freightliner to show off bevy of equipment, technology Daimler Trucks North America in its booth at the front of the show (#12113) will be showcasing its lineup of trucks, engines and telematics. On display at the booth are both the Freightliner Cascadia Evolution with the 72-inch sleeper and the Freightliner Cascadia Evolution day cab.

Freightliner’s 122SD 8x4 tanker is also on display.

DTNA is also touting its integrated powertrain options — centerpieced by the Detroit DD15 engine and Detroit

DT12 transmission — with the Detroit tour trailer.

Freightliner’s Team Run Smart reps, successful owneroperators who run Freightliners, will be at the booth to talk to attendees.

Daimler’s Detroit Connect diagnostics system will also be represented at the booth, and attendees can see how the system can improve uptime.

Chevron hosting Delo Teardown Challenge to tout low-viscosity benefits ‘Deadliest Catch’ star Edgar Hansen to also be on hand, as well as Ford F-250 in sweepstakes Chevron Delo will be showing off to attendees its Delo 400 XLE Synblend 10W-30 next-gen heavy-duty engine oil and the fuel savings that be achieved by using it, Chevron says.

To that end, the company will be hosting the Delo Teardown Challenge at its booth (#12093), in which attendees will try to guess the difference between parts (in photos) from two different engines, one using Delo’s 400 LE 15W-40 conventional grade

viscosity and the other using the 10W-30.

The Great American Trucking Show 2014

A winner will be chosen Friday, Aug. 22, in the Overdrive-Red Eye Radio’s Trucker Talent Search, as the contest’s three finalists will each sing at the Red Eye Radio lobby booth immediately following the closing Tony Justice of the show floor at 5 p.m.

The winner will be chosen by a panel of judges.

Each finalist will receive a pair of Justin booths, and the winner will be awarded a Cobra GPS and CB radio.

The finalists, which were chosen by Overdrive readers via online voting, are drivers Brad James, Keith Sampson and Jennie Simpson.

Driver and songwriter Tony Justice will emcee the event and he’ll also perform.

Fitzgerald Gliders makes Hogebuilt fenders standard on Pete 389, 386 models Fitzgerald Glider Kits has announced Hogebuilt fenders will be its standard option on all of its Peterbilt 389 and 386 models. Fitzgerald currently builds about 2,700 units a year, and about a third of those are Peterbilt models.

“We were happy to make this arrangement because not only do Hogebuilt fenders look great but they are the best and made right here in Tennessee,” says Tommy Fitzgerald Jr. “We want to continue to promote American business and we take great pride in our ability to do so.”

Mike Ryan’s Class 8 racing truck on display in prep for 2015 truck race series In addition to filming his second series of truck drifting videos and scenes for the upcoming Fast & Furious 7, truck racer and movie stunt driver Mike Ryan announced a Class 8 tractor racing series that will debut in 2015.

The series is dubbed the ChampTruck World Series. It will emphasize low-cost trucks, but they’ll compete at major tracks like the Daytona International Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway and Portland International Raceway.

You can see a sample of the Champ Truck series at Booth #21143 in Hall F. Ryan and partner John Condren will be on hand to answer questions about the series.

The Great American Trucking Show 2014

Sirius to broadcast “Future of Trucking” panel live from show SiriusXM Road Dog Trucking Radio will be broadcasting live from the show Friday, Aug. 22, at the Shell Lubricants booth (#19081).

The broadcast will feature a panel of industry experts who will forecast the future of truck technology, fuel and smart roadways.

During the three-hour session, Sirius says it will outline challenges facing the trucking industry in the coming years and figure out what’s in store for the next generation of trucks and drivers.

The live broadcast will take place on Friday, Aug. 22, at the Shell Lubricants booth (#19081), where attendees can watch the show live. The broadcast will also available on Road Dog Trucking Radio SiriusXM channel 146, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Central.

Anderson Trucking Service will have on display at its booth, #8049, the custom Kenworth built for cancer survivor Chris Andersen on CMT’s Trick My Truck series. The truck will be on display all three days of the show, and Andersen himself will be there signing autographs and taking photos with attendees.

ATS is one of the largest carriers in the country, specializing in flatbed, heavy haul and dry van. It runs about 2,500 trucks.

Owner-op insurance provider ATAS talking coverage at booth ATAS Truck Insurance Agency will have agents on hand at the show to talk to owner-operators, leased drivers and fleets about its different insurance packages. Services include specialized consultation to meet state and federal requirements, online access to certificates of insurance, competitive financing options and online payment options, ATAS says.

Pride & Polish championship on the line A year’s worth of shining, polishing, waxing and wiping culminates here at The Great American Trucking Show, as four champs will emerge in the 2014 Overdrive’s Pride & Polish National Championship series, which began at

the 2013 show.

A field of 20 of the nation’s top show rigs is on display in the Pride & Polish area, and four trucks will be named the national champs.

Dozens of other custom-built and

working show trucks are also on display and competing in the general Pride & Polish event.

The Pride & Polish event of the show is open and free to all attendees.

Competitors spend weeks preparing

Overdrive’s Most Beautiful winner to greet attendees, sign autographs Overdrive’s Most Beautiful winner Emily Weymouth will make appearances at the booth of Con-way (#20167), which sponsors the Most Beautiful program, and at Overdrive’s booth (#21143).

Weymouth is a regional lubricants hauler based in Massachusetts.

Her strong work ethic and tough-asnails attitude helped propel her to being named the contest’s winner. In its second year of recognizing female drivers, Overdrive’s Most Beautiful contest generated 71 submissions. Through a combination of online audience voting and a judging panel, the entrants were narrowed to 10 finalists.

Weymouth will be at the Overdrive booth on Thursday and Friday from 2-3 p.m. and Saturday 10-11 a.m. She’ll be at the Con-way booth Thursday at 4 p.m., Friday from 10-11 a.m. and Saturday from 1-2 p.m.

The awards ceremony – also open to all show attendees – will be held Saturday at 11 a.m.

Trucking’s Top Rookie to be named Friday More than $25,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to 10 rookie drivers at a ceremony held Friday, Aug. 22, as part of the annual Mike O’Connell Memorial Trucking’s Top Rookie contest.

The 10 finalists were selected from a field of 55 nominees, and the winner — who’ll get $10,000 cash, among other prizes — will be named at the ceremony.

The program is designed to increase pride and professionalism among new drivers and to promote truck driving as a career choice. A panel of judges made up of representatives from training schools, suppliers and trade associations chose the winners.

The program is sponsored by RandallReilly, the Truckload Carriers Association, Commercial Vehicle Training Association, Rand McNally, Shell Rotella, Pilot Flying J, Progressive Commercial Insurance, National Association of Publicly Funded Truck Driving Schools, American Trucking Associations and the Red Eye Radio Network.
