WHY USE US? When it comes to travel photography you need to know more than just how to use a camera. You need to be able to relate with the people of many different cultures and you need to have an understanding of how the imagery is going to be used and what is important to the client. Richard has more than 25 years experience within the design industry, from running a successful desktop publishing studio in the early 90's, to spending seven years as the international marketing manager for a global design software company, responsible for Australia, New Zealand,
South East Asia and Greater China. It is this experience that has armed Richard with the knowledge of what is required by marketing teams and design departments. He understands that you not only need striking images that sell the location, but also images with negative space to allow for copy or more ‘abstract’ images for layout backgrounds. Richard’s love of travel photography started way back in 1998 when he first traveled abroad to Japan and the USA. Since then it has developed from a passionate hobby to a dedicated career...
AWARD WINNING IMAGERY Richard is a fully accredited member of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography. He has received multiple awards for his images both nationally and internationally including: 1 x Silver Distinction (Epson QLD AIPP Awards) 10 x Silver (Epson QLD AIPP Awards) 2 x Silver Distinction (Canon Australian Professional Print Awards) 3 x Silver (Canon Australian Professional Print Awards) 2 x Silver (WPPI)
and the passion just keeps getting stronger. For the past seven years, Richard’s photography has been primarily focussed in the wedding and portrait market, but moving forward, we are looking at dedicating at least six months of the year to capturing travel video and images for a select number of travel agencies and tour companies. THE PEOPLE One of the most amazing things about working as a travel photographer is being able to experience such diverse cultures all over this amazing planet. The life-force of every culture is it’s people and I endeavor to capture the essence of each culture’s people wherever I go. Many activities that seem mundane and routine can be mesmerizing to people from outside their culture. I could have happily watched this Balinese woodcraftsman for hours as he carved out a small figurine for the tourist market.
Things don’t always go as planned. When shooting the image on the right, I arrived at the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove at 6am to ensure I could capture the shot I wanted before the crowds arrived... just to stumble across a ďŹ lm crew shooting a commercial for a new SmartCar. While another photographer next to me made an open display of frustration and stormed off, I worked in with what the local crew were doing and grabbed my shot while they were repositioning the vehicle for another scene.
FOLLOW THE LIGHT When on assignment, there is no such thing as ‘regular work hours’. Often there may only be a day or two to capture a particular location and so we make sure the day is planned in such a way as to make best use of the available light. This generally means saving the most important locations for sunrise or sunset. As such, the working day starts well before sunrise and lasts long after sunset.
At Windeyer Travel Photography, we understand that no two travel companies or creative agencies are the same. As such, we don’t limit our offerings to the most common practices. We endeavour to work in with your way of doing things and are happy to become an extension of your internal marketing team. Yes we capture stunning still images and enticing footage of the places we visit, but we can also deliver so much more. In this day and age when social media is a part of everyday life, we can post images and stories from the road to engage your customer base, with everything moulded to convey the message you are wanting to deliver to your clients. We are available for short and long assignments and can customise deliverables to suit exactly what your company needs. Contact us today and let’s discuss what Windeyer Travel Photography can do for your business. We’d love to hear from you! Chat soon,
