Donations Wanted.... The Richland Center Shopping News has been delighted to sponsor a hat and mitten drive for the past several years. Your generous donations are distributed via the Salvation Army to individuals in our area. The need within the community continues to be great. So, this year in an effort to expand our collections we’re also looking for individuals who knit or crochet. If you don’’t know how to knit or crochet you can still be involved by making a donation of yarn or money for us to purchase supplies. We will match up our volunteer crafters with the materials that are donated. The crafters will create warm, handmade winter accessories that are sure to be appreciated by many within the county. Please call Kenda at 647-2911 for more details on being a volunteer crafter. Donations of materials or cash can be made at the Shopping News, 272 N. Main Street, Richland Center. Please hurry! We need to start now to ensure we have a large collection for the winter season. Our deadline to deliver these many items to the Salvation Army is November 1st.

July 4, 2015 Lawrence (Larry) A. Westbrook, age 76, of Richland Center passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at the St. Clare Hospice House in Baraboo, WI. He was born January 21, 1939, the son of James A. and Viola M. (Wertz) Westbrook in Omaha, NE. Larry married Loretta M. Stante on April 26, 1964 in South Bend, IN. They were married for 51 years. During their marriage they had two children, Mary and Michael. Larry earned his Bachelor Degree from UW Milwaukee in 1961 and he also held a degree in advertising design from Layton School of Art. Service, people and home were of highest importance to Larry. He was a member of the Wisconsin Air National Guard from 1962-1966 and served on the Winnebago County Board in the 70’s as both member and chairman. He was an entrepreneur twice over. From 1979-1985, he and his wife owned and operated the Insty Prints store in Rockford, IL, and from 2001-2014, he co-owned and co-managed the H&R Block office in Richland Center, WI with his business partner, Carol Wanless. He worked 27 years for H&R Block, devoting his time and attention to his clients as if they were family. He built many strong relationships and friendships in his work life. When not at the office, quite often Larry could be found at Papa’s Donuts Shop or the
local McDonald’s spending time with his buddies sharing stories and laughs. Another of Larry’s great fondnesses was his home and spending time with his family. He and his wife built their home in Richland Center, WI and enjoyed the rural life for 16 years. He spent his free time puttering around the property, maintaining it with love. Even a snow storm was a treat to Larry, as it gave him an excuse to “push some snow around” on his tractor he named Big Red. Survivors include Larry’s wife Loretta; daughter Mary (Chris) Clay of Middleton, WI and their daughter Kendall; and son Michael (Tammy) Westbrook of Gurnee, IL and their children Josh and Nathan; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Viola Westbrook, and other relatives. A visitation was held on Saturday, August 8 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Richland Center, WI. Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in honor of Larry to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (1 800 805 5856), or the St. Clare Hospice House (1600 Jefferson Street Suite 101 Baraboo, WI 53913). The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the Westbrook family. Online condolences may be made at prattfuneralservice.com
