Whip up a meal for quick entertaining

Enter taining guests is a labor of love Much effort goes into preparing a home for the arrival of friends and family, and that includes planning a menu that will accommodate as many people as possible.

Hosts and hostesses who are looking to take some of the work off of their plates can explore recipes that are less labor-intensive. Slow cookers are the unsung heroes of the kitchen. While busy families often use them to prepare weeknight meals, slow cookers also can be used when cooking for crowds. In such instances, they free up time for par ty hosts to tackle other jobs.

This recipe for Sweet Southern Slow-Cooker Ham,

cour tesy of the National Pork Board and Yummly, utilizes a fully cooked, store-bought ham and some sweet and savory accoutrements The ham can be ser ved on its own, or be used to create delicious sliders. Since it ser ves 12, it's the perfect meal for a crowd.

Sweet Southern Slow-Cooker Ham

Ser ves 12

1 bone-in fully cooked ham (about 5 1/2 pounds)

1 cup apple cider

1/2 cup dark brown sugar

1/3 cup bourbon (preferably Kentucky)

1/4 cup honey

1/4 cup Dijon style mustard

4 sprigs fresh thyme

Place the ham in a large slow cooker

Whisk the cider with the brown sugar, bourbon, honey, and mustard. Slowly pour over the ham. Scatter the thyme sprigs into the slow cooker.

Cook on high for 4 hours or on low for 8 hours, or until very tender Remove ham to rest on a cutting board. Pass the remaining cooking liquid through a fine mesh sieve into a saucepan. Simmer for 10 minutes or until slightly reduced. Cut the ham into chunks or slices Brush the cut pieces with the cooking liquid before arranging on a platter. Ser ve warm or at room temperature.

CHRIST Adam and Eve “sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons” in an effort to cover their nakedness, their sin. They then “hid themselves” from God in the garden. But God found them and provided for them appropriate coverings, but a death had to take place and blood had to be shed in order to provide them an appropriate covering. This all pointed toward the death of Christ and His shed blood as the only acceptable remedy for sin. Much of what people do today amounts to another effort to cover their sin and hide themselves from a holy God, but He will find them also and declare their efforts futile. Killing A Business In Ten Easy Steps

Don’t Advertise!

1.

2.

Just pretend everyone knows what you have to offer.

Don’t Advertise!

Tell yourself you just don’t have time to spend thinking about promoting your business.

3.

4.

Don’t Advertise! Just assume everyone knows what you sell.

Don’t Advertise!

Convince yourself that you’ve been in business so long customers will automatically come to you.

Don’t Advertise!

5.

Forget that there are new potential customers who would do business with you if they were reminded and urged to do so.

Don’t Advertise!

Forget that you have competition trying to attract your customers away from you.

Don’t Advertise! Tell yourself that it costs too much to advertise and that you don’t get enough out of it.

Don’t Advertise!

Overlook the fact that advertising is an investment in selling — not an expense.

Don’t Advertise! Be sure not to provide an adequate advertising budget for your business.

Don’t Advertise!

Forget that you have to keep reminding your established customers that you appreciate their business.

Works!
