OBITUARIES
Nellie Rebecca Hendricks, better known as Becky to all who knew and loved her, passed away peacefully at her home in Gotham, Wisconsin on Friday, January 13, 2023. Becky was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin on January 16, 1948, attended the one-room school in Gotham before graduating from Richland Center High School in 1966. For 33 years, Becky worked at Elco Textron, Inc. in Rockford, Illinois as a calibration technician. She was well loved by her coworkers, who appreciated Becky’s dedication to her job and her sense of fun. During her time in Rockford she participated in several sports and was an active member of a bowling league and even considered becoming a professional bowler. After her retirement, Becky moved back to Wisconsin to live in her childhood home in Gotham, which she shared with her partner, Dianne. She enjoyed crafts and was especially talented at making beaded jewelry, spending many happy hours in her workshop in the company of her pets. She loved animals, adopting many dogs and cats over the years. Becky will be remembered for her lifelong work ethic and often used to say, “Life isn’t fair and it’s not a circus either.” However, she also had a great sense of humor and positive attitude. Her personal philosophy was “Keep a smile in your heart and keep moving forward in life.” Her loss will be felt deeply by her many friends. Becky is survived by her partner of 27 years, Dianne Walters-Butler and sister Harriett. Becky was preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Erna as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.
Geneva Troxel
Geneva Troxel, 93, of Muscoda, died Sunday, January 8, 2023, at Pine Valley Community Village. She was born on August 7, 1929, the daughter of Irvin and Lillian (Grimm) Lange. Geneva graduated from Blue River High School. On August 24, 1949, she was united in marriage to Merrill ‘Pete’ Troxel. The couple lived in the Basswood Area raising their 5 children. Geneva enjoyed the summer trips to Drummond with family and friends. She enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Geneva was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, and she regularly prayed the rosary for anyone she felt would benefit from it. Through good times and bad, Geneva, was a picture of strength, grace, and a cornerstone of her family. Geneva is survived by her children: Ronald (Mary Jane) Troxel of Beloit, Jodene (Ron) Roh of Muscoda, Bruce (Cindy) Troxel of Richland Center; many grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and great great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law: Patsy Troxel of Boscobel, Mary Ann Troxel of Richland Center; many other relatives and friends. Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, husband Pete, two sons Mark and Jeff Troxel, daughter-in-law Barbara Troxel, and sister Iretta (Clint) Atkinson Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will be held in the Basswood Cemetery at a later date. Visitation was held on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at St. John’s Gym in Muscoda from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.

Data released by S&P Global Mobility in early 2022 indicated that the average
vehicle on the road is 12 years and two months old, which marked the highest number in the 20-plus years such information was tracked. A host of variables affect how long drivers keep their cars, but the rising cost of new vehicles has undoubtedly compelled many
drivers to aspire to keep their cars for longer periods of time.
Aging cars may require a little more TLC than vehicles that are right off the dealership lot. But the following are three simple tips that can help drivers keep their cars running longer.
1. Become a more careful driver. A careful approach when behind the wheel is safer than aggressive driving and bene cial for your vehicle. When starting, avoid revving the engine, which needlessly wears it down. When out on the road, avoid rapid accelerations, which also contributes to needless wear and tear. Even exces-
sive idling can adversely affect the engine, so keep winter warm-ups to around 30 seconds to prevent damage to engine components.
2. Know when and how to ll up. Every driver has likely visited a lling station when an oil tanker is busily lling the tanks. That’s traditionally been considered a less than ideal time to ll up, as the theory is that lling the tanks stirs up sediment that could then nd its way into consumers’ gas tanks, adversely affecting their vehicles. However, that’s often dependent on the station itself and how much its owners prioritize maintenance of the tank and ltration systems. Driv-
ers who trust their local station owners can likely ll up when the tankers are present without worry. In addition, avoid topping off once the nozzle clicks when lling up. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency notes that topping off is harmful to the planet and the vehicle, as gasoline needs room to expand. When you top off, the extra gas may damage the vapor collection system and cause the vehicle to run less ef ciently.
3. Change oil more frequently as the vehicle ages. It’s true that modern vehicles no longer require oil changes for every 3,000 miles driven. However, as vehicles age,
drivers and their vehicles’ engines may bene t from more frequent oil changes than the owner’s manual necessarily recommends.
Oil changes remove dirt and metal particles from the engine, potentially contributing to a longer life expectancy.
More frequent changes can be especially bene cial for vehicles that are routinely driven in stop-and-go traf c.

This position also serves as the Richland County Health Officer as required in Wisconsin Statutes 251.06. Duties include supervising all aspects of the Public Health Unit in accordance with federal and state laws, developing and maintaining the unit budget, creating and implementing policies and procedures, providing direct supervision of unit staff, and grant writing.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing and current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Wisconsin is required. Three years of supervisory experience with a public health agency, including responsibility for a communicable disease prevention and control program, as well as a valid driver’s license with access to reliable transportation is also required. The wage range is $34.60-$36.17 per hour and includes State of Wisconsin Public Employees group health insurance, WRS retirement, and other fringe benefits package.
