I’m excited because I get to bark at all the kids as the walk by. I just love watching them from my window seat! They have these funny things hanging on their backs. I’m guessing that is where they keep all their treats! I sure wish I could have my own backpack of treats. My brother Micky doesn’t like when I announce to the house that more small humans are walking by - he just likes to be lazy and rest at the window seat. Sometimes the little humans even speed by really fast on a thing with 2 wheels. I think my humans said it is a bike. Boy, would I love to go chase those bikes! I’m

What I nd most interesting about statistics is how they have evolved since I began following them in the sports world. It is no longer just about batting average, free-throw percentage, or other simple indications of personal performance. Statistics have evolved to include a much more holistic approach in every application. Now, in sports, teams can evaluate a player’s likelihood to catch a ball based on statistical algorithms related to their route or which player might be best to draft based on the mental traits they possess that teams may prefer. The expansion of different areas that statistics has grown to cover is the most interesting part of it.
I rst became involved in statistics when many of my friends participated in sports. I became interested in following sports and realized how well sports can be understood through statistics.
How did you first become involved in statistics?

Those memories, experiences, and relationships helped me develop the different interests related to my career path and enabled me to pursue my long-term goals. Without the support from those people who I crossed paths with in high school, I would not be where I am today.

Defining the Role
Matthew researches and interprets statistics for each UW-Platteville basketball game. This gives him the ability to talk about the players performance and predict what teams may do in certain game situations. Since he was unable to attend many of the Spring sports events, he obtained statistics from coaches and put together stories based on those ndings. In High School, Matthew was the stat taker, where in college, he used statistics taken by others to expand to other jobNow,opportunities.Let’sChat with Matt!
I graduated Iowa-Grant High School with the class of 2018. Nicolet Area Technical College/Southwest Tech Graduate 2020. I graduated from Nicolet Area Technical College in a partnership program with Southwest Tech. I received a 2-year University Transfer Associate of Arts Degree. Additionally, I graduated from UW-Platteville in the Spring of 2022 with an individually contracted major in Sports Management, Communications, and Marketing. This fall, I will start a
M.S. in Sports Administration from UW-Platteville.

aboutYF:
YF: What would your dream job be after completion of your master’s degree?
Matt: My dream job would be to either work for a sports organization or an Intercollegiate Athletics program. Upon completing my degree, I will be seeking a job closely related to sports communications.
YF: What piece of advice would you offer to students who may be interested in the same field?Matt: I would say that there are so many different paths to take in this career eld that it would be important to pursue a similar degree program with an open mind and connect with as many people as possible. Get to know those who work in the eld because you never know where those connections will lead.
What do you find most interesting about statistics? sure tiny humans have pets at home, and they are really going to miss them while they are away at school. Us dogs and cats can do pretty well on our own, but it is nice to have access to a potty break, fresh water, and even toys to keep us entertained while our humans are away. Oh boy - here comes another bike to bark at - gotta go!

Holly: The 2022-2023 school year will be my tenth year teaching in the Cuba City Schools.
YF: What advice or words of wisdom can you offer parents to assist them in helping their child have a successful middle school experience?Baird:
Parents are eternally challenged by their children in every facet of their lives (that’s why I don’t have kids :). I bet the biggest challenge will be finding school supplies in stock with all the shortages.
Baird: I really didn’t like school at all growing up. Lunch detention was the only class I really excelled at. My favorite classes where always the ones with teachers who could connect with me. It wasn’t the subject but more the relationship.
Name: Holly Johns
Holly: My favorite subject was math.
YF: What is a challenge parents face when sending their kids to school?Baird:
Holly: The Cuba City Schools offer a “Meet the Teacher” night before the first day of school. Attending this event will help prepare students for the first day, by allowing them to get comfortable with the environment and meet the teacher.
Help your child grow by teaching them to communicate their emotions and feelings. And encourage them to step out of their comfort zone and try new things! (Fact-Sushi won’t kill you & it’s delicious)

environment. The thing that seems to be the most challenging for students is getting used to the transitions; moving as a large group of students around the building, to recess, lunch, bathrooms, etc. This takes time and practice for students to be able to make these transitions smoothly.
YF: How long have you been with the Platteville School District?
Baird: I think building rapport with their peers can be the most difficult part, especially for new students of transfers. For all the returning kiddos, the biggest fish to fry is adapting back into the routine of school. Lets be honest, who really likes getting up
YF: What is one challenge children face when starting 4k/ Kindergarten?Holly:Starting school is a big change for many children; whether they have been attending a daycare center or have been in a home

career?Baird: Keeping it real. I don’t talk down to them when asking about their feelings or behaviors. I’ve learned that after building rapport with a student its much easier to motivate them to pursue academic success!

YF: What is a challenge parents face when sending their kids to school?Holly: One thing that can be challenging for parents is figuring out how students will get to and from school when work schedules conflict with the school day. Thankfully we have bussing which can transport students to and from daycare centers or other locations.

Consider white noise. The sounds of the house or outdoors may be keeping you up. Many people find that the gentle hum of a fan or a white-noise machine with a calming sound effect makes it easier for them to dose off than complete quiet. It can also block out extraneous noises.

During the months between graduating high school and beginning college, or between getting a university degree and entering the workforce, graduates may want to explore the personal growth that comes from volunteerism.
0 Make sure you take the time to clearly communicate these expectations to each other.
There are many arenas where young people can focus their volunteer efforts. Here are some ideas.
how you want to utilize your time in school so it best serves you in the time after school is completed.
· Public service sectors: AmeriCorp and Peace Corps have scores of opportunities for volunteers. AmeriCorp focuses on domestic issues, while the PeaceCorp is a branch of the U.S. government that engages volunteers in international service work. Community involvement, health care, agriculture, homelessness, and combatting hunger are top priorities for these organizations.
· Tutoring: Graduates can volunteer to tutor students in local schools or overseas.
· English as a second language: Volunteers can spend time abroad teaching English to students. Others may want to volunteer domestically by helping non-English-speaking individuals improve their language skills.
Keep electronics out of the bedroom. It can be challenging to disconnect from electronics, but it is essential to falling asleep. Even a back-lit text coming through in the wee hours can be enough illumination to disrupt sleep.
A good Credit Score will help you in the future with loans to buy things like a car or a house.
· Conservation groups: Volunteers can work on conservation projects across the country. From wildlife management to trail restoration to invasive species eradication, there are a wide variety of conservation-based volunteering opportunities.
· Religious groups: Churches, synagogues and mosques may have volunteer opportunities focused on community outreach or programs affiliated with local nonprofits.

0 You will have to do your own laundry, clean your apartment, prepare and cook your own meals, and keep your own budget/ nances in order.
Many adults lament that even if they were solid sleepers in their younger years, by the age of 50, their quality of sleep has unraveled. Some cling to the wisdom that people simply do not need as much sleep as they get older. Even though that is partly true, suf cient sleep is still a vital component of a healthy life.Generally speaking, anything under ve hours is not recommended based on data reviewed by sleep experts.Various strategies can help people get more sleep and enjoy better sleep quality.
Create a luxury bed environment. Splurge on the largest mattress you can afford and one that is comfortable for both parties (if married/coupled). A roomy bed routinely invites sleep. If you have a restless partner, try two separate beds pushed against each other.
See your doctor. If medications or illnesses are keeping you up, a change in regimen may provide the relief you need.
0 Look into how a 401(k) works.
Talk with your parent(s)/ guardian(s) to see what they expect of you after you graduate.

BETTER TEST PERFORMANCE
Participation and even appreciation of the arts can have an impact as well. Researchers from the Department of Public Administration at the University of Illinois Chicago found that being an art curator or audience member leads to high levels of civic engagement and social tolerance. The support and therapy company Evolve Treatment Centers reports that involvement in music and arts leads to overall higher GPAs, higher scores in math and reading and a reduced risk of behavioral problems and education are important to students’ alive in schools benefit students in

IMPROVED EMOTIONAL STATES
ack-to-school season means parents have a lot on their minds before September. Did your kids outgrow their tennis shoes, or can they make them work until Christmas time? How many boxes of tissues do you need to buy for your second grader’s class? Did you return that authorization form to allow your child to play sports? There’s a lot to remember to help your kids have a happy and healthy school
If you need to get your child up-to-date on vaccinations, please call either the Cuba City Clinic at (608) 744-2767 or the Platteville Clinic at (608) 348 – 4330, and one of the primary care providers can assist you in getting your child back on track.
In addition to better performance on tests, a review in Frontiers in Psychology examined several studies linking arts and aesthetic experiences with ‘broad improvements’ in people’s emotional states. Those improvements included greater psychological and physical well-being.

Music and arts programs often are the first to be cut when school budgets are tightened. The organization Save the Music says that, during the Great Recession in 2008 and 2009, per-pupil spending in public schools decreased by approximately 7 percent across the country. This led to a trickle-down effect that resulted in the cancellation of art and music programs. Since then, many districts have continued to cut arts programs due to budget limitations. COVID-19 also did little to help the situation.

Furthermore, data from 2015 from The College Board, which produces the SAT, found students who took four years of arts and music classes while in high school scored an average of 92 points higher on their SATs than students who only took one-half year or less.
year. One item you may have left off your list? Make sure you’re kids are up-to-date on their vaccinations and immunizations. According to the Wisconsin Student Immunization Law, Wisconsin children must have polio, hepatitis, MMR, and Varicella vaccines.
The disruption that COVID-19 has caused in the world and healthcare means many people haven’t seen their primary care provider in years. Getting back to your primary care provider and setting up that rst appointment is a priority. A vaccine dose may have been skipped if you or your child missed an important health milestone or did not see your provider. It doesn’t matter what has stopped you from adhering to the proper immunization timeline, maybe you haven’t wanted to come into the hospital during the pandemic, or you simply haven’t realized how much time has passed!
While it is encouraged for everyone who can get the COVID-19 vaccine, don’t forget to stay up-to-date on your other necessary vaccines for yourself and your school-aged children. If you don’t know what your child is missing, give their provider a call and ask! They will be happy to walk you through what’s missing from immunization records or what needs to be updated before school starts.
Numerous studies have found a correlation between early introduction to music education and a number of benefits for children. Music education can help develop communication skills, brain plasticity, language, and motor skills. A study conducted by the University of California, Los Angeles used a database of more than 25,000 middle and high school students. The researchers found that students involved in arts performed better on
The cost of products and services continues to rise and organizations everywhere have increasingly been feeling the pressure to reevaluate budgets. It’s no different in school districts nationwide, with school boards making difficult decisions about which programs to keep and which will have to go in order to save money

Brooke Shannon, PA-C, enjoys the variety that family medicine offers. In addition to overall health and well-being, she has particularly interested in dermatology and being able to visually see the improvement in a patient’s skin condition with treatment and can provide a more hands-on approach with biopsies or excisions.
The Cuba City Clinic offers both family medicine and rehab services, and your primary care provider can see you at that location if you see the following providers:
Primary care providers are your go-to resource for all things health. That’s why it’s crucial to have a provider that you can turn to and feel a sense of familiarity and comfort.
That’s why Southwest Health continues to expand its clinics and include more primary care providers. Recently, we have added three additional Physician Assistants to our team of fifteen wonderful providers to help create a healthier Southwest Wisconsin and make it easier to get appointments when needed, both at Platteville and the Cuba City Clinic.
Chelsea Hayes, PA-C, sees patients in the clinic as well as urgent care, where she treats patients of all ages, providing a full range of primary and family medical care. She’s especially attuned to educating patients about their health and promoting preventive medicine strategies to improve and maintain health.
If your child is constantly seeing different providers, they may not have fostered the same type of trusting relationship if they were to see the same person for years. Your primary provider can have a deeper understanding of both your child’s and total family’s medical history
