This class provides training to keep you in compliance with OSHA’s forklift safety standard, 1910.178. The program gives details on the powered industrial truck from the way it’s constructed to the way it operates. Learn OSHA regulations for operation of vehicle-mounted elevating and rotating work platforms (OSHA 1910.67 and 1926.453). Students will learn safe practices required to operate a scissor lift and a Genie aerial work platform. OSHA requires that powered platforms used for building maintenance be operated only by persons who are proficient in the operation, safe use and inspection of the particular working platform utilized. Attendees will gain knowledge of safety hazards associated with this equipment, inspection prior to operation, fall protection, emergency procedures and required work procedures. Operators will participate in classroom instruction, hands on operation of equipment and a written test. A certificate of completion will be provided to each operator at successful course completion.

MANUFACTURING SKILLS SHORT COURSE

The goal of the Manufacturing Skills Short Course is to create work-ready candidates with a competitive advantage for entry-level manufacturing jobs in 12 weeks. This non-credit program emphasizes useful problem-solving and hands-on learning and is led by instructors with industry and teaching/ training experience. The course was conceived and developed in partnership with local manufacturers who seek job candidates who have proven themselves ready with the professional standards and basic skills necessary for local manufacturing jobs. Students will gain exposure to the expectations of a professional environment, develop skills including measurements, basic tool usage, reading, writing and math specific to the manufacturing work environment. Further, students will be expected to demonstrate punctuality, reliability and practical problem-solving abilities required in a professional work environment. BASIC FORKLIFT OPERATION SKILLS


WORKPLACE TRAINING

BASIC AND INTERMEDIATE WELDING

Students will be expected to have welding gloves, beanie, helmet, jacket, safety glasses, chipping hammer, wire brush, and mig pliers. In this class students will learn the basics of Oxy-fuel cutting, plasma cutting and air gouging before moving into Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) with various welding electrodes, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Flux Cord Arc Welding (FCAW) in the flat and horizontal fillet and grooved positions. Students will perform two fillet welds and two grooved welds with all three welding processes. Two of the fillet welds will be performed in the horizontal position and the two grooved welds will be in flat positions. One fillet and one horizontal will be performed with a 7018 electrode and 6010 Electrode (total of four test with SMAW). When the students are finished SMAW, they will do the same test with GMAW and FCAW. The students will perform one fillet with GMAW and one fillet with FCAW, and one grooved weld with GMAW and one grooved weld with FCAW (total of four tests with GMAW and FCAW). Total of eight weld test and six cutting test. All tests will be to AWS and ASME standards. All fillet welds will have an acid etch preformed on them, and all grooved weld tests will be bend tested as is stated in the ASME section nine of the boiler code. Students will be graded on 100% scale with 70% and under not passing. 112 contact hours and individuals will receive a printed certificate upon successful completion. INTRODUCTION TO GAS TUNGSTEN ARC WELDING (GTAW)

Students will be expected to have welding gloves, beanie, helmet, jacket, safety glasses, chipping hammer, wire brush, and mig pliers. In this class students will learn how to set up and operate various GTAW welding units (TIG). Students will learn about the different types of tungsten and how to weld on thin sections of stainless steel and non-ferrous metals. Students will be graded on 100% scale with 70% and under not passing. All fillet

welds will have an acid etch preformed on them, and all grooved weld tests will be bend tested as is stated in the ASME section nine of the boiler code. 56 contact hours and individuals will receive a printed certificate upon successful completion. FOOD PROTECTION MANAGER COURSE

Illinois regulations require food establishments to have at least one Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) on premise at all times while open. This course uses the ServSafe course material and examination. Students will earn the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification upon successful completion of the exam, which is accredited by the American National Standards Institute. You will learn about basic food safety, personal hygiene, cross-contamination and allergens, time and temperature, and cleaning and sanitation. Certification is required every five years. Do you ever wonder what it would be like to run your own business? Do you have a business idea? Do you want to be your own boss?

Join us for a week of fun as we explore how to start and run your own business. We’ll visit area businesses and learn how to launch an idea into a real business. During the camp you will brand and market your idea, create an infomercial, understand how to produce financial statements and learn what it takes to be an entrepreneur. At the end of the week, you and your team will pitch your business to a team of “investors.” The participants on the winning team will each receive a $250 certificate to be used towards tuition, books and fees at Richland Community College.
