War offers chance to wean off oil know humanity still has a ways to go in shaking our tribal tendencies.

Wow, times certainly are a changin’ — and I’m not sure if I like it. As EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell said in response to the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine: “These are among the darkest hours for Europe since the Second World War.” Of course, lots of bombs have fallen on lots of parts of the world since the 1940s. And to imply everything is different in this atrocity because it’s happening in Europe may reflect an attitude that some lives are more valuable than others. In fact, we’re already hearing stories of people of colour — Nigerian, Lebanese, and Indian residents of Ukraine — being pushed back from border crossings as they try to escape the bombings, with preference going to white folks. I truly hope that’s not the case, but I also

That said, I don’t mean to lessen the significance of this invasion with a shrugging attitude of “whatever, invasions happen.” Moreover, most of us do tend to feel things more acutely when we have a personal connection to the people or place in question. I read recently that Canada has the largest Ukrainian population in the world outside of Ukraine and Russia. The article also explained that the vast majority of those early Ukrainian immigrants settled in the three prairie provinces because many had farming backgrounds and the Canadian government was selling off much of that “empty” prairie farmland for almost nothing. Of course, that land was neither empty nor the government’s to sell, but there’s that First Nations blind spot again. But despite the questionable pretext, the Ukrainian people did come, work and enrich Canadian culture in many ways.
I was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Calgary where I well remember feeling quite slighted when a number of my classmates got an extra day off school to celebrate what we called at the time Ukrainian Christmas on Jan. 7. I also remember being at summer camp when one of the very cool camp counsellors broke into traditional Ukrainian dance. Point being, I’m feeling the impact more than I might if I didn’t have that history, and clearly I’m not alone. Canada, albeit a bit player, is doing what it can with sanctions, and here in Richmond, city staff have taken down the Russian flag at the Richmond Olympic Oval and raised the Ukrainian flag at city hall. Meanwhile, folks have been attending rallies, organizing fundraisers and painting rocks with messages of support for the people of Ukraine. And then there’s the oil. With Russia being a major oil exporter, gas prices, which were already giving people heart attacks at the pump, are sure
to go up. But instead of (or maybe as well as) complaining and searching GasBuddy for the best deals, perhaps this is the time to double down on investments in renewable energy sources. Just as the horrors of COVID brought attention (although we’re still waiting for action) to how long-term care facilities are run, this could be the kick we need to start weaning ourselves off our addiction to foreign oil (or any oil for that matter.) At the risk of sounding like an irritatingly positive person, silver linings can’t hurt. So while we fret and freak out about what’s happening in the Ukraine, we can also seize an opportunity to get serious about investing in alternative energy. It also wouldn’t hurt to remember that while it may feel like things are a changin’ for the worse, by almost every measure (life expectancy, malnutrition and world hunger) we are significantly better off than we were the last time bombs were falling on Europe.

Traffic studies Dialogue leads to understanding not necessary Dear Editor,
where uncomfortable conversations can be had instead of trying to control the narrative. Spot on! Unfortunately, uncomfortable conversations are uncomfortable!
Re: “Uncomfortable conversations our best hope,” Opinion, Feb. 24.
Dear Editor,
Re: “Intersections researched,” News, Feb. 24. I am amazed there needs to be research done to figure out that there are many traffic concerns in Richmond. For many years, I have asking where is the enforcement along these so-called dangerous routes. I have asked and never received a response from anyone as to the rampant speeding on all Richmond streets. I walk daily and have come close to being run down in a school zone, marked crosswalks and intersections. There is no such thing as speed limits, complete stops or any other enforcement being done on a full time basis. Until the RCMP take this problem seriously and start hitting drivers hard till the message sinks in, we will continue to see pedestrians hit, car crashes at intersections and poor driving habits go unpunished. We don’t need a study to be done. We need action now or we will end up waiting for things to get done, like building a new tunnel.
Neil Bruce

Thanks for bringing light to this important topic at such a critical time. As you highlighted, finding common ground on the many intractable challenges our society faces today will require a willingness to listen.
Such conversations challenge our own perspectives, our worldview, our values and even our identity. We need to be careful that what one person labels as misinformation is not simply a perspective different from their own.
How many readers are ready and willing to listen to viewpoints that are directly opposed to their own?
Even science-based approaches to many issues are often a consensus of professional views rather than a single narrative based solely on any objective fact. It is even more subjective when involving public policy, where choices usually involve value trade-offs of various interests.
Most readers likely believe they do this already but in the heat of a situation, like the one presented, we see how quickly the human mind shifts to a defensive position where the response is more likely to become reactive, as your reader experienced.
For example, who should pay for low-cost rental housing in new buildings? Having discussions and ultimately deciding on the trade-offs to get to consensus of some type is uncomfortable.
Without strong self-awareness of individual emotional triggers, research shows people are at the mercy of their subconscious. You mention creating safe forums
As a conflict resolution professional myself, it’s my opinion we need to shift from discussion towards increasing dialogue, along with a broader education of important communications skills. Critical thinking needs to be core to the public education curriculum. Discussion focuses on debate, division and the differences between alternate views. Dialogue seeks to understand, find meaning and points of connection. Dialogue encourages listening rather than merely hearing and going further to build upon the best of other’s views to find the optimal solution. As you said, communication is key and during this critical time, we need to improve our collective communications skills if we seek to move forward respecting each other and building a better community.

Blaze hits vitamin store Elderly woman attacked Alan Campbell
ACAMPBELL@RICHMOND-NEWS.COM
A Richmond business owner could be hundreds of thousands of dollars out of pocket, after a mysterious fire ripped through her store. Christina Liu is still in a bit of shock after the unexplained blaze tore through her vitamin shop — 12 Baskets — last Tuesday evening at Blundell Centre. The fire, said Liu, destroyed her storage area at the back of the store and melted most of the front, retail side, destroying in the process what she believes to be hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of stock. And given the nature of her business, she told the Richmond News she only had basic insurance coverage and could be closed for up to a year. “We’re not at high-risk so our coverage is minimal. It’s not in the
nature of our business to have high coverage,” said Liu, who is still picking over the remnants of the damage. “The fire just doesn’t make sense. That’s the inventory gone. It’s all gone.”
Liu, who owns a second location on Cambie Road, said she closed up the shop at Blundell Centre at 6 p.m. last week, as usual, and was at home about 45 minutes later when she received a call from a neighbouring store that her place was on fire. “They saw a lot of smoke. By the time the fire department came, there were huge flames,” added Liu, who has been in business for 30 years. “There’s no gas, no kitchen, nothing really to spark the fire in the storage area. It burned everything in the back and melted everything in the front. “I have heard of arson activities in the area, but I can’t find confirmation of that. The fire marshal has no
idea. They said they’re scratching their heads.”
Liu said she expects the insurance company adjuster will hire someone to look at the cause and maybe then some kind of explanation will be offered. She added that that there were no signs of a forced entry.
“The only way someone could get anything in there is through the HVAC system. But I can’t think of anyone who would do this. “We will just have to re-build and hope the community continues to support us.” Richmond Fire-Rescue told the News that six units were deployed to the blaze, which appears to have been contained to 12 Baskets. The fire department spokesperson said there were no injuries to any workers, the public or fire department personnel and that the investigation into the cause of the fire was still ongoing.
Richmond RCMP is asking the public for help, after an attempted daylight robbery of an 88-year-old woman in a city centre parking lot.
According to police, the woman was walking through the parking lot at 8200 Ackroyd Rd. — understood to be the PriceSmart lot — around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 when a grey SUV approached her. One of the occupants of the SUV reportedly tried pulling her inside the vehicle and stealing her purse. Police say the suspect or suspects then fled in the vehicle after their attempt was unsuccessful, and officers weren’t able to locate the vehicle or suspects. The woman, added police, was luckily unharmed, but “noticeably shaken by this traumatic event.” “This was an extremely harrowing ordeal for this woman. We are fully committed to finding the person or persons responsible for this despicable act,” said the RCMP’s Cpl. Dennis Hwang. Police are asking anyone with dashcam footage or information to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212, quoting file #2022-4498, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). — Alan Campbell/News
Rabbitats wants to remove all feral rabbits habitats.
Kirsten Clarke KCLARKE@RICHMOND-NEWS.COM
A Richmond rabbit rescue group wants all invasive rabbits to be removed from public areas, instead of just “nuisance” ones. Rabbitats CEO Sorelle Saidman was responding to a city proposal to manage the European rabbit population, which it says poses health risks to native rabbit species — by spreading rabbit hemmoragic disease — and is damaging natural
Last year, the not-for-profit removed 118 rabbits from public property, relocating them to a sanctuary, according to a report to city council’s parks, recreation and cultural services committee. Saidman said controlling the population can be done by removing all the rabbits from an area. “We’ve been successful with UVic, the Richmond Auto Mall, we’ve done a couple of strata complexes including the Dover neighbourhood,” Saidman told the committee on Tuesday.
“…we haven’t actually been tasked with rabbit control because it’s been only city property and it’s only been the nuisance rabbits,” she added.
The city report states, despite trying different strategies over the past two years, Richmond’s feral rabbit population doesn’t seem to be declining. But Coun. Harold Steves disputed this, saying the problem isn’t as bad as it was several decades ago, adding there there used to be a “plague of rabbits” in the Agricultural Land Reserve south of Steveston Highway 30 to 40 years ago, but these
were wiped out by coyotes and disease.
“The question I’ve got is, is there really a problem? What’s wrong with the way it’s working out now? Because I’m sure we’ve got less rabbits in the agricultural area than we had 20 or 30 years ago,” said Steves. In addition to raising public awareness, the city is looking at studying the rabbit situation to see how many there are and where they are concentrated. The city is also proposing giving Rabbitats $15,000 to continue its work managing the population.

Ukraine flag hoisted The flag of Ukraine is flying on No. 3 Road outside Richmond City Hall.
A motion to do so — and to send a letter of support to the Ukrainian consul-general in Vancouver — in the wake of the war, was passed unanimously by Richmond city council on Monday. Not only would it show support for Ukraine in these “terrible and tragic events,” it would support people of Ukrainian descent locally, said Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “There’s not a lot a municipal government halfway around the world can do, but I think that we can indicate our support and make it known where we stand as a group,” Brodie said. Russia attacked Ukraine last week and several cities have been hit by heavy shelling. Thousands of refugees are fleeing into neighbouring Poland and other countries. On Monday, the Russian flag was taken down at the Richmond Olympic Oval. Richmond community activist Karina Reid and her family spent several days painting Ukraine flags and sunflowers on rocks and

placed them at the doorsteps of the Ukrainian Community Society of Ivan Franko in Richmond to show solidarity with Ukraine. Reid said this was the least she could do at this moment. Meanwhile, Reid said her family members living in Suceava, Romania, 40 kilometres from Ukraine, have worked around the clock as “Uber drivers” to pick up Ukrainian refugees coming across the border. “I wish I could be in Romania right now to help more,” said Reid. “The situation is absolutely devastating and I can’t even think of anything else right now.” Richmond city coun. Chak Au joined protestors Saturday at the Vancouver Art Gallery to condemn the Russian attack where he was joined by other Richmondites. “...I hope Ukrainians (can) get through the darkest time soon,” said Au. Richmond’s refurbished animal shelter on No. 5 Road is almost ready to welcome dogs, cats and other lost or abandoned animals.
The City of Richmond contracted its animal services to BC SPCA last year as it started to rebuild the animal shelter on No. 5 Road.
The Richmond Community Animal Shelter, at 12071 No. 5 Rd., is expected to open by the end of March with the BC SPCA taking over the new facility, previously run by the Regional Animal Protection Society (RAPS).
“We began working with the city as providers of their animal control services more than a year ago, and we are thrilled to be building on this successful partnership with the operations of this new shelter,” said Parm Takhar, BC SPCA chief operations officer, in a media statement.

The Richmond Animal Shelter, previously run by RAPS, integrated the previous 40-year-old shelter structure into the new one with a budget of $8 million. Tiny homes planned in Spires Road area Maria Rantanen MRANTANEN@RICHMOND-NEWS.COM
Four single-family homes could make way for 39 new homes, some as small as 360 square feet, in the Spires Road area. The proposed townhouse complex will have 36 units — ranging in size from about 700 to 1,700 square feet — with three secondary suites. The secondary suites will range from 363 square feet to 388 square feet in size. Richmond city council asked staff to look into getting more density into the Spires Road area in exchange for developers adding rental units, but that new policy isn’t expected until May. The developer, a numbered company — 1219002BC — whose directors are KaiShen (John) Hsiung and Yi-Jen (Claire)
Wang, opted not to add more density. They will have to contribute $358,000 into the city’s affordable housing fund. The Spires Road project will be dealt with at next week’s planning meeting and includes some tree retention proposals. There are 22 trees on the development site of which 21 were identified as dead or dying or had been significantly pruned so they aren’t viable for saving.

Developers are supposed to replace trees with a 2:1 ratio, but the developers say only 19 trees can be planted at the new complex, so they are choosing to provide the city with financial compensation instead, which amounts to about $17,250 for 23 trees.

Capstan rec facility construction starting soon Maria Rantanen MRANTANEN@RICHMOND-NEWS.COM
The noise of hammers and saws could soon be heard in Capstan Village as the city has issued a permit to start building a brand-new community centre.
The new recreational facility at No. 3 Road and Capstan Way could simply be called “Capstan Community Centre.” This is the name recommended by city staff, which they say reflects the history of the area, distinguishes it from the rest of City Centre and will help residents find it easily. So far, the developer, YuanHeng, has re-
ceived a building permit to build the shell of the community centre. Once it receives its final building permit, it’s expected to take about 33 months to build, according to the developer.
The community centre will be about 33,000 square feet in size and its construction will be paid for by the developer in
exchange for being allowed to build more residential units.
The name of the centre comes from the area it’s located in with a staff report explaining horse-powered capstans — devices for pulling heavy objects — were used to tow water pipes across the Middle Arm of the Fraser River. 11

Q: What is the difference between having an immediate denture and a denture that is made after I have extractions?
A:
Immediate dentures are always best, unless there is so much mobility in your teeth that taking an impression may cause an accidental extraction when the impression is removed. The immediate denture will act as a band aid as well as to help reshape the bone to a kinder more rounded form, rather than leaving the sharp edges that are formed by the circumference of the extraction socket. Follow up must be done by your dental practitioner in order to keep up with the changing shape as the bone and tissue heal. If you have extractions done and the denture is made after a period of couple months then the bone from the circumference of the socket has prematurely healed and is now standing up. When a denture is placed on the tissues, the bone from underneath now stabs you from the inside out. There is one way that you can do the latter method. Once your initial wound site has closed, then you must massage the bone together towards the center of gum. This will tell the body that the bone must reshape to a rounder shape. If you have questions that you would like answered, please don’t hesitate to book a free consultation with my office, or you can write to us via our website to: bcdenturist.com

Q: I have disc and spinal degeneration,
At the beginning of every year, I write about how gold and silver did the previous year, so this question is appropriate. At the end of January 2021, the spot price of Gold was $2350 CDN, Silver was $33 CDN, and Platinum was $1420 CDN. As of February 17, 2022, Gold was $2400 CDN, Silver was $30.60, and Platinum was $1385 CDN. From these figures, it doesn’t look like a lot of change occurred. However, the prices at the end of January 2021 were close to their highs for the year and all metals softened later in the year. The peak for Silver in 2021 was in February when the same Reddit online crowd who drove GameStop to new highs decided to do the same with Silver. I remember that Monday when we had lineups down the outside of our window with people waiting to buy silver. Silver was at $36.00 CND and every person the was buying silver and expecting Silver to jump to $100 by the end of the month. Instead, it went down most of the year before recovering this year. The lows were in December of 2021, with Gold at $2280 CDN, Silver at $28.50 CDN and Platinum at $1180 CDN. To answer your question about if it is a good time to buy gold, I believe that there is no best time. I am a firm believer in slow and continual purchasing of precious metals. Every month I add to my personal purchases and to the company’s stock. Right now, we have great stock of Gold and Silver bars and coins and a large stock of Platinum bars. Besides selling precious metals, we are also buyers of the same with extremely competitive prices.

The answer is definitely YES! First, let me explain what A: degeneration of the spine is and how you get it. Spinal
?
degeneration is a condition where the discs between the vertebrae start deceasing in height and calcium deposits (spurs) start forming around the vertebrae which can cause narrowing of the spina canal and narrowing of the nerve rood openings.

Reach our professionals with your questions.
can I still see a chiropractor?
Spinal degeneration is often caused by long-standing stress in the spine from various traumas that we experience throughout life. Trauma can cause subluxations (misaligned vertebrae) in the spine, which if left uncorrected can lead to stress in the spine and degeneration. The best treatment for degeneration is of course prevention. After any trauma, check with a chiropractor to make sure the vertebrae ware moving properly and if necessary have your spine adjusted. It’s never too late to help degeneration in the spine. If you already suffer, see your chiropractor today to improve your symptoms and to prevent the degeneration in your spine from getting worse.

COMMUNITY Proposed name has historical significance
This is where Capstan Village, Capstan Way and Capstan Canada Line Station all derived their names.

The YuanHeng development was approved in 2016 and the total floor area will be about 1.2 million square feet. There will be 871 market units and 63 affordable rental
units.
Naming of the new community centre is on the parks and recreation meeting agenda. The city’s naming policy — for public buildings, parks or places — dates from 1997 and is meant to “honour or memorialize” people, corporations, events or places that have “attained achievements
A11
Connect at Editor@Richmond-News.com of extraordinary and lasting distinction and contribution to the City” as well as pay tribute to whatever the use of the facility is. The Richmond Board of Education is reviewing its facility naming policy — adopted in 1990 — in the near future. Board chair Sandra Nixon said the idea is to have an up-
dated process that’s “clear and transparent” and supports the school district’s commitment to “equity and specifically, to addressing bias, privilege and systemic discrimination.” Other name suggestions for the community centre in Capstan Village were Riverfront Community Centre and North Richmond Community Centre.
ASK A PROFESSIONAL Q:
What do I need to know before my trip?
A:
Before you travel, consider updating your vaccinations. Travel vaccines will provide you with important protection while travelling internationally. In general, vaccines can be divided into 3 categories – routine vaccines (recommended for everyone), required vaccines (travellers must have these vaccines in order to enter a country), and recommended vaccines (health organizations recommended vaccines that are not always required by a country). Depending on where you are travelling and your travel itinerary, vaccination recommendations may differ. Consult with your health care provider or visit a travel health clinic as early as possible since some vaccines may take several weeks to build immunity while others may require multiple doses over several months. In addition, travellers should also predetermine any potential health hazards while travelling overseas and consider taking medications to prevent malaria and altitude sickness. During your trip, continue to practice proper sanitation and personal hygiene, follow food safety practices, prevent insect or animal bite and injury are essential for health protection and are as equally important as immunizations and medications. Talk to your pharmacist about preparing a first aid kit, including other travel essentials. When travelling internationally, you may be required to present a negative COVID-19 viral test certificate which can either be a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) or RAT (rapid antigen test). Refer to the travel.gc.ca and IATA.org for the most updated information on travel, health documentation requirements, and other health and safety protocols.

Why is funeral pre-planning part of a comprehensive retirement plan? Reason #1 - Life insurance doesn’t cover the cost of funerals. Life insurance is meant for the living.
It also takes about 8 weeks to payout to beneficiaries. Since funerals are a typee of event, 50% of the costs need to be paid upfront, with the remaining 50% duee two weeks later. Even if the beneficiary can part with some of that money from m life insurance, it will be about two months too late. Pre-planning helps you pay off the complete cost of a funeral before passing.. And when you’ve paid it off, that’s it; there are no further payments. On the other hand, life insurance is something you’ll keep paying... well, for life. And you may never even use it at all! Stay tuned for Reason #2 next month! Call us at 604-273-3748 and speak with one of our dedicated professionalss to get started on your pre-arrangements today!

The same principles apply for much larger systems, such as a whole building Boiler Room. There is newer, much more energy efficient systems that can save a vast amount of money in operating costs as well as being much more environmentally friendly. Fortis has very large rebate programs for these conversions. Ask us for details.
you renew your ICBC insurance Q: Can online? A:
We continue to help families through challenging times
Q: A:
Tankless water heaters work on demand – they only heat water when necessary. Instead of wasting energy and money re-heating and storing water when it is not needed, Tankless Water Heaters provide only as much hot water as needed. Tank type water heaters store and heat water at all times, thus incurring higher operating costs. They have a limited supply of hot heater and will run out of hot Water when the tank is drained. Tankless water heaters provide an unlimited supply of hot water – you will never run out. The size of a residential tankless water heater is about the size of a carry-on suitcase and with a few exceptions, can be installed virtually anywhere inside your home. Using a tankless water heater will allow a home to use up to 50% less energy for heating water, which can save hundreds of dollars per year. Tankless water heaters can last 20 or more years, which by todays manufacturing standards, is 2-3 times longer than a traditional Tank type heater. Fortis has some great Rebate Programs to save you money for switching to this hi-efficiency option.

It was the day a personal letter of thanks arrived in the mail from the White House, signed in writing by then U.S. president, Ronald Reagan. About two months earlier, on March 30, 1981, Reagan had narrowly survived an assassination attempt in Washington, D.C. The president, his bodyguard, a D.C. police officer and the White House press secretary were all shot, but all made it out of hospital alive. At the time, Nyeholt — a lifelong Richmondite who had closely followed Reagan’s acting and political career — owned and operated Gardenia florists in Richmond’s Times Square. So she used her industry connections to have flower arrangements sent to Reagan and his bodyguard, while they were in hospital. “My letter made it into the Richmond News on May 20, 1981. I still have the news cutting and the letter and envelope from President Ronald Reagan,” said Nyeholt, 70, who thought she had lost the precious keepsakes. It was only when her niece dropped off some belongings at her new home in Richmond’s Courtyard Gardens that the newspaper cutting and White House letter resurfaced. “When I got sick about five years ago, my niece took care of all my stuff,’ said Nyeholt. “Just the other day she dropped a whole ton of stuff off and there it was.

Richmond Kajaks coaches, athletes win top BC awards Alan Campbell ACAMPBELL@RICHMOND-NEWS.COM
A number of Kajaks Track and Field coaches and athletes scooped up a several honours at the recent BC Athletics Awards for 2021. Garrett Collier won the “Excellence in U16/U18 Coaching” category after the throws coach supported many athletes in achieving new distances. According to BC Athletics, Collier’s season highlights included Matthew Uliana’s U18 Canadian record in hammer, as well as his U20 BC record in discus. Lee Hunter won the “Excellence in Junior Development Coaching” award for his “passion for assisting in the development of young athletes.” During the 2021 season, Lee was instrumental in keeping the Kajaks JD program running smoothly, “dedicating his time beyond planned practices and competitions to ensure every child had experience in all event disciplines.” Camryn Rogers picked up a “2021 Outstanding Athletes of the Year” accolade
after a stunning season in the hammer.
Not only was Rogers the NCAA Div.1 Champion, she broke the NCAA and Canadian U23 records, all en route to a debut in the Olympic Games, where she finished fifth. Rogers also received the “2021 BC Athletics Senior Track & Field Athletes of the Year” with fellow Richmond Olympian Evan Dunfee. Dunfee capped a memorable season by snatching a bronze medal at the death in the 50K race walk. During the season, he also set new Canadian records in the 5,000m and 10,000m races. Matthew Uliana was named “2021 U18 Track & Field Athletes of the Year” after a standout season, setting a U18 Canadian record in the hammer and a U20 BC record in discus. Notable mention went to Aidan Turner — a finalist for the U18 Track and Field Athlete award. Lawrence Man won the “2021 U16 Male Track & Field Award” in the 14-year-old division, after achieving a hammer throw distance of 50.73m.
Volleyball product signs for UBC A Richmond volleyball product has become the first women’s volleyball signing at UBC for a decade. Steveston resident Elizabeth Lee (pictured) recently put pen to paper for the Thunderbirds, who described her as having “excellent ball control” and being an “extremely athletic jumper.” Lee is the first Richmond-raised player to sign for the women’s volleyball program at UBC since Juliana Kaufmanis from McMath secondary. She started her volleyball career in Grade 6 at Homma elementary, before making a name for herself playing and training with Air Attack out of the Richmond Oval for six years. —Alan Campbell/Richmond News

Taylor League Cup Final at 1 p.m. and finally the Masters Cup Final at 3 p.m. A beer garden will be open in the grandstand, along with a barbecue, and with the sun expected to be shining, there is a good chance of a big crowd.

In the day’s feature game, the Division 1 champion Richmond All Blacks are chasing the double. They will take on the league’s second place side West Coast FC, which progressed to the final on Tuesday, putting away Unicorn FC A by two goals to nil. The League Cup has gone to the Graduates the last three seasons, according to RASA’s stats man, Matt Mercer, so a new name is guaranteed on the trophy this time around. As well as bragging rights, the winner of the cup gets an automatic berth into the Provincial B Cup in the spring. In the Masters Cup Final (for the over-35s), the defending champion Flying Beavers will go head-to-head with the Rain City Gunners. The two sides are second and first, respectively, in the Masters Division, so it should be a fitting finale to Super Soccer Sunday.
