Fatal crash accused to go before judge

A man charged with a fatal 2021 crash at UBC that caused the death of two students will be tried by a supreme court judge alone and no jury

Two 18-year-old UBC students, Evan Smith and Emily Selwood, were struck and killed by a vehicle while walking on a sidewalk near Northwest Marine Drive on Sept 26, 2021

“I personally know people who are fighting over there and I was talking to people raising money here, so I wanted to do something to help,” Khomenko told the Richmond News

“I know these soldiers, so I know the money is going to get to the right places I’m told they are purchasing drones and first aid kits All the money will go directly to the soldiers in Ukraine ”

Khomenko is now planning to carve out a chess board with military emblems to raise more money for the war effort

Tim Carl Robert Goerner was charged in September 2022 and faces four counts of impaired driving causing death and two related to dangerous driving

Goerner chose his trial type through his lawyer last week. He was not present at Richmond Provincial Court for the appearance

His next appearance will be at his preliminary inquiry, which is scheduled to take place from Oct 3 to 17, 2023
