How much do you know about the 1990s? Not a lot? Well, the 1990s were an electronic decade. The World Wide Web was born in 1992. By 1998 100 million people were online! In fashion, hip-hop style was popular: jeans were baggy—the bigger the better! Some popular American TV shows were Friends, Beverly Hills 90210 and ER. Hit movies included Titanic, Terminator 2 and The Silence of the Lambs. Mariah Carey, the Backstreet Boys and the Spice Girls were all big in the 1990s.

a Read the article. Who was Steve Irwin?
The Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin was a conservationist and TV personality. He was born in Australia in 1962. His parents opened Australia Zoo in 1971, and for his sixth birthday he received a very special present from them—a python! Steve studied at home and also learned how to catch crocodiles. Steve’s parents retired in 1991, and he started to manage the zoo. A year later he produced his first TV documentary, The Crocodile Hunter. Steve’s TV series was popular all over the world. Steve died in September 2006. He was killed by a stingray at the Great Barrier Reef in eastern Australia. One last fact! Steve Irwin was a very brave man, but he was afraid of parrots! As he said, “Parrots are a lot of smarter than crocodiles!”

1. How far is the trip from Cusco to Machu Picchu? 2. How long does the trek take? 3. How do you return to Cusco at the end of the trip? 4. How much does the trip cos t?
The Inca Trail The Inca Trail is a jungle hike in Peru from the ancient city of Cusco to the sacred Inca city of Machu Picchu. It is usually possible to do the 45-kilometer trek in four days and then you return to Cusco by train. You need to be a healthy person to hike this trail, as it is difficult in some places, and it climbs to altitudes of 4200 meters in some parts. To prepare for the trip, it is important to spend at least two full days in Cusco. Prices for the classic four-day trek start at about $240 USD per person (including entrance fees and return by train).
