Focus North Leeward recording the Trash Pick Up March - we guarantee that you will hear more from us in the media
On 26th of December the primary school in Georgetown organized a big fundraising event to generate some income to their students for the next school term. They invited Richmond Vale Academy to help them out in this special Christmas action. Face painting, punch board, donkey tail and bouncy castle are only a few examples of the opportunities where children could find their joy and in the same time support their school.
We are proud that we could be there, get to know the people and offer our help.
It was our first step to make the other side of St. Vincent climate compliance!
Closing the year of 2012 with the Trash Pick Up March We cannot start the new year better than clean environment and streets without trash! On the last day of 2012 old and young walked together from Petit Bordel, through Chateaubelair until FitzHughes on the Trash Pick Up March. Around 100 people participated from the Richmond Vale Academy, Chateaubeliar and Petit Bordel Police Youth Clubs, RVA Horse School, GAIA Clubs and local people who got inspired.
This event showed us that teaching about the environment in the North Leeward schools is really useful, it gave us fantastic results in mobilizing, motivating people for the clean future and make St. 9LQFHQW WKH ´:RUOGCV &OHDQHVW &RXQWU\µ 7KLV action showed that a clean community that cares, brings several elements of improvements! ´)RFXV 1RUWK /HHZDUGµ recorded the march, they walked with us together,

We are grateful for Mountain Top sponsoring us, so we were able to distribute trash bags, gloves and the Climate Compliance Conference T-Shirts for the participants and invited them for a small meal and juice at the end of the march.

Environmental Actions in North Leeward On 7th of January 2013 the new school term is going to start in St. Vincent, so it means that the GAIA Team continues the environmental lessons in the governmental schools in the North Leeward area. The topics are related to global warming and climate change, like organic gardening and self-sustainability, nutrition and healthy living, the idea of Reduce-Reuse-Recycle
and about our treasure, the water. The teaching project will lead to a trash pick up competiWLRQ FD OOH G ´7KH : R U O G · V & O H D Q H V W &RXQWU\ &RPSHWLWLRQµ The Christmas events showed us good results of our activities, lots of students who we teach participated on the march, it was easier to mobilize them, including the police youth clubs from Petit Bordel and Chateaubelair or our local GAIA Clubs.
New year, new ideas DQG QHZ SURMHFWV« This is how the Richmond Vale Academy closed the old and started the new year! In 2013 the GAIA activists are going to build new playgrounds out of recycled materials, develop the sustainable lifestyle, build out gray water collection system and extend the Climate Compliance Conference in the other parts of St. Vincent and the Grenadines!

The Biogas Project
Students building the tanks for our biogas project
Climate Compliancy means energy, food and disaster security, so showing a good example with selfsustainability is very important for us. Therefore we decided to build our own biogas plant to supply our kitchen with gas. The GAIA students started to build it in the beginning of November 2012 and finished both the construction and
the filling of the tank with cow manure and water by the end of November. Now we have to wait until January 10th 2013 for the enzymes which are in the cow manure and necessary for the further process to react. From then on we will feed our daily kitchen leftovers into the plant every day!
