End of high school is up in the air for Oyster Bay High seniors By JENNIFER CORR jcorr@liherald.com
Students, faculty and staff of Oyster Bay High School never could have imagined that during the spring season there would be a pandemic and mandated social distancing. “It stinks,” said Sean O’ Toole, an OBHS senior. “I never thought throughout my 12 years
of school that I’d be distancing, you know?” Dr. Laura Seinfeld, the superintendent of the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Central School District, announced on March 13 that the district’s schools would close on March 16. On Monday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo extended the closures until at least April 29. When and if the schools will reopen is still unknown.
The governor ordered the closures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, which OBHS seniors said they understand. However, many are disappointed that what they thought their final months of school would be are much different — online classes instead of gathering in classrooms, FaceTime sessions instead of hanging out with friends, and CONTINUED ON PAGE 5
