Young Nursery Professional of the Year Award The Young Nursery Professional of the Year is an annual award established by the New England Nursery Association. Its purpose is to reward, to honor and to encourage participation, achievement and growth by an individual who is involved in a related horticultural industry and has not reached the age of 40 years, who has shown involvement in his or her state and/or regional nursery association, who have contributed to the growth and success of their company of employment and who has portrayed an image to the public of what our products and services can do for them. The selection of Young Nursery Professional of the Year is made by the appropriate leaders within the individual state nursery association.

Environmental Leadership Award The Massachusetts Nursery and Landscape Association, Inc. is dedicated to helping the citizens of the Commonwealth, plan, develop and maintain the private and public landscapes of Massachusetts. It has always been our goal to provide this service to the public in a manner consistent with sound environmental practices. We recognize that a partnership with the governmental, educational and environmental communities is the most effective way to achieve that goal. The Massachusetts Nursery and Landscape Association’s Environmental Leadership Award established in 1998 recognizes individuals who have consistently provided informed leadership in dealing with complex environmental issues. Current Membership There are five types of membership available within MNLA: Active Membership Those persons, firms or corporations whose principal business is the production, sale, servicing or handling of nursery stock in Massachusetts. Membership dues categories for Active Membership: A (Less than $100,000) $175.00 B ($100,000 単 $500,000) $250.00 C ($500,000 単 1 Million) $325.00 D (Over 1 Million) $400.00 Associate Membership Those persons, firms, or corporations engaged in allied horticultural industries or professions including: suppliers of landscape and nursery products other than nursery stock; landscape architects; qualified out of state nursery professions. Membership dues category for Associate Membership: E (Associate) $200.00 Educator Membership Those persons who are employed in academia in an accredited agricultural school, high school, college, or university. Membership dues category for Educator: T (Educator) $75.00 Student Membership Those persons enrolled in an accredited agricultural school, college or university as a full time student (ID required). Membership dues category for Student is: S (Student) $25.00 Honorary Membership Those persons who have served MNLA as President and/or have rendered meritorious service to the green industry. Certified Horticulturists

The Massachusetts Nursery & Landscape Association confers the title “Massachusetts Certified Horticulturist” on individuals who have demonstrated a high level of competence by passing a comprehensive examination, and by fulfilling prescribed standards of performance and conduct. A “Massachusetts Certified Horticulturist” subscribes to a code of ethics which promotes high ethical standards, increased professional skills, and continuing education in the field of horticulture. Currently there are 352 individuals who have earned this professional designation.

In a continued effort to remain a viable, valuable and competitive professional certification program, it is important that each of our MCH professionals invest in continuing education. The MCH Board is very excited about the MCH program and hope that you will take advantage of the many NEW opportunities in 2013 to expand your knowledge and earn credits for your efforts. The following are just some of the highlights! • Credit for participation in plant identification challenges that will be available through MNLA’s magazine ProGrowNews and at the annual Great Ideas Summer Conference. Points can be earned for submitting correct identification. Stay tuned for more information on this opportunity throughout the year. • Participation in Earth Day and Arbor Day events. Document your local volunteer efforts as you help to educate the public about the green industry and the value of your certification. This will earn you points. • Participation in MCH and MNLA events will earn you MORE credits than non-sponsored events; this can help you to your recertification goal quickly and encourage you to participate in programs where professionals meet! The value of networking is strong and beneficial. We hope that you will take advantage of earning more points at MNLA events. • The annual number of recertification credits required has increased to 8 points. • Random audit system. For many years we have relied heavily on the honor system for recertification. In 2010, the MCH Board will be instituting a random audit system to ensure that the MCH program continues to maintain the highest standards of continuing education. MCH’s

(Full-time employment, not part-time employment.)

In order to become a “Massachusetts Certified Horticulturist” you must: 1. Submit a completed application to the “Massachusetts Certified Horticulturist” Board at the Massachusetts Nursery & Landscape Association, P.O. Box 387, Conway, MA 01341 and include the proper certification fee. 2. Achieve a successful score on the certification examination. 3. Sign the “Massachusetts Certified Horticulturist” Code of Ethics and submit it to the Board with your application for certification. The certification examinations are administered twice annually in February and August. Specific dates, times and locations are announced to applicants through the mail. Certification is valid for one year. The certification fee (including

initial examination) is $55.00 for MNLA members and their employees and $75.00 for others. The re-examination fee is $25.00. Certification is renewable each year by means of earning five (5) maintenance credits and the payment of the recertification renewal fee of $20.00 MNLA members/$30.00 non-member. Maintenance credits will be awarded upon submission of an MCH Credit Reporting Form. This non-governmental, voluntary program to certify nursery industry employees as professionals is administered by a Board of “Massachusetts Certified Horticulturists” under the sponsorship of the Massachusetts Nursery & Landscape Association. Certification is not, however, limited to MNLA members and their employees.

2014 Advertising Opportunities Terms and Conditions: Payment is due upon receipt of invoice.
