Australian symphonic metal singer Darkyra Back, will release her debut album, “Dragon Tears“, on February 20, 2014. ‘Dragon Tears‘ is a concept album based on a Gothic interpretation of a geisha like tale that ends in tragedy. Love, loss, lust, betrayal and revenge. The music is a fine blend of symphonic metal, gothic metal, epic metal and progressive rock with elements of traditional pentatonic music and an overall cinematic feel. The album is being co-produced by Garry King, Darkyra Black and George Boussounis, through Online Recording Masters Athens and La Foret Groupe France. Darkyra Back has recently released their brand new single and video ‘Tears By Candlelight
Metal and Gothic Metal, our minds automatically think of the Ethereal Diva’s such as Tarja Turunen (Ex Nightwish) Floor Jansen (Nightwish) and Simone Simons (Epica) and each year the number of carbon copy artists increases. Perhaps it’s time for a change. Perhaps the change is right here. Darkyra Back ‘s unique vocal is far from predictable as she has a way of blending together all the different colors of her voice taking you on an emotional roller coaster unlike any other female artist.

The Institute, Birmingham 8th December 2013 Supports — The Treatment, Orange Goblin Review and Photos by Reg Richardson Please ensure that your seat is upright with your seatbelt fastened and your tray table folded away....we're about to get AIRBOURNE! However, before the small matter of a headline band we have two supporting bands; The Treatment, a 5-piece rock band from Cambridge, followed by Orange Goblin, a 4-piece heavy metal band from London. The Treatment are proving to be a very accomplished set of musicians with a fast growing following eager to hear their 1980's inspired brand of rock. The band showed just how good they are during the 30-minute set in front of an appreciative crowd. The band finish this tour supporting Airbourne before embarking on their own headline tour of the UK and Europe early next year and I, for one, will be there to see it. Orange Goblin are a different outfit altogether and have gathered a huge following. Heavy metal riffs interspersed with the dark, industrial strength vocals of Ben Ward almost pummelled the audience

I thought for a minute that 'No Guts, No Glory', the bands' 2010 album was going to be given a complete miss but that was dismissed as the band struck up 'No Way but the Hard Way' from that very album. The main set finished with one of my favourite tracks, 'Stand Up for Rock and Roll' from 'Runnin' Wild'. Throughout the short-ish set Joel O'Keeffe ran around like a complete lunatic leaving the sensible stuff to brother Ryan on drums, David Roads on guitar and Justin Street on bass. The bands' wild man, Joel, wasn't slow to berate the audience over the cricket scores nor was he slow to acknowledge the bands' comparison to AC/DC, to the point that, at times, he mimicked the stage moves of AC/DC's Angus Young. After a very short break the band returned to treat the audience to a three-song encore which included 'Live it Up' from 'Black Dog Barking', 'Raise the Flag' from 'No Guts, No Glory' and finishing with the 'Runnin' Wild' title track. The encore also included a tribute to local heroes Black Sabbath s well as Joel providing the front rows of the audience with the obligatory beer shower using beer from cans opened by smashing them on his head!
into submission but this was a hardy bunch of rockers and NOTHING was going to stop them hearing the star act. The nine song set started with 'Scorpionica' from the 2000 album 'The Big Black' and around forty minutes later finished with 'Red Tide Rising' from their latest album 'A Eulogy for the Damned', released last year.
This high energy set finished all too soon but one thing is for sure, this Black Dog Barking comes with some bite!
Just time to take a breath because Airbourne were about to land in Birmingham. The band hit the stage to rapturous applause from a full house; for a band that's had just 3 albums in 10 years they've developed one hell of a following. The set kicked off with a new twist on an old song, 'Ready to Rock', originally released on a self-funded EP in 2004 but revamped for the 2013 album 'Black Dog Barking'. Next up were two songs from the 2007 album 'Runnin' Wild', 'Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast' followed by 'Girls in Black'. During 'Girls in Black' Joel O'Keeffe rode the shoulders of one of the bands roadies and took off into the crowd much to the delight of those that got in the way. It was back to 'Black Dog Barking' for two of the next three songs, 'Back in the Game' and the title track, 'Black Dog Barking', split by 'Diamond in the Rough' from 'Runnin' Wild'. 'Cheap Wine and Cheaper Women' from the same album was next.

Elite Announce Recreation of Sinclair The Best just got Better Since its release in September this year, Command ZX Spectrum “Recently, you may have seen or heard mention of plans for the recreation of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. The Sinclair ZX Spectrum is an 8-bit personal home computer released in the UK in 1982 by Sinclair Research Ltd. Since launch, some 10,000 games have been created for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Production of the device ceased in 1990, by which time more than 5 million units had been sold worldwide, primarily in the UK and Spain and also in significant numbers elsewhere. ”The purpose of this website is to provide a little further information about those plans and to solicit information and interest which will guide us in making the recreation a reality. Announcing The Bluetooth® ZX Spectrum “Well we’re pleased to be able to tell you something more about those plans. The recreated Sinclair ZX Spectrum will be a Bluetooth keyboard, initially for iOS and subsequently for, Android and Windows phones and tablets (as well as for PCs and Macs), in the form-factor of a 48K Sinclair ZX Spectrum. It will be known as the Bluetooth ZX Spectrum. ZX Spectrum is a licensed trade mark. The Bluetooth ZX Spectrum will connect wirelessly to, for example, an iPad and in turn to a TV via Apple Airplay.” “By default, when used in conjunction with the simultaneously released and separately sold Bluetooth ZX Spectrum apps, available from the iTunes App Store, and subsequently from the Google Play, Amazon App Store and Windows Store, the Bluetooth ZX Spectrum will provide authentic rubber-key play-control over a comprehensive catalogue of 100% original, officially licenced, paid-for Bluetooth ZX Spectrum games (and more) via a secure App Store environment. Either at launch or sometime later, the Bluetooth ZX Spectrum will also be 'backwardly compatible' with the existing and separately sold, 'ZX Spectrum: Elite Collection' apps, either by default or perhaps via an in-app purchase from within those apps.” “Optionally, the Bluetooth ZX Spectrum will also be a Bluetooth keyboard for other apps available from the iTunes App Store, and subsequently from the Google Play, Amazon App Store and Windows Store and also applications running on PCs and Macs, making it possible to, say, type a letter on a PC using a Spectrum! Both the default and the optional functionality of the Bluetooth ZX Spectrum will be available at the time of the device’s launch. Details of how the optional functionality may be enabled will be revealed at a later date. The Bluetooth ZX Spectrum will have an end-user price of between £39.99 and £49.99 (plus delivery) and initially will be available for purchase online-only."
Modern Air/Naval Operations has been praised as a ‘rare thing’ (Rock Paper Shotgun), a ‘true gem’ (Gamers Hall) and ‘a seriously fun, intense, involving simulation of modern naval combat with nearly infinite replay value’ (Armchair General). For developers Warfare Sims (www.warfaresims.com) though, this wasn’t enough. The team engaged with the fans, involved the community and effectively started a brand new development process to take this immense project to perfection. Since the release of v1.01 (which addressed the most immediate concerns WRT reliability/ performance/functionality), the WS dev team has been relentlessly working on Command, as evidenced by the breakneck pace of private & public releases. The next official update, v1.02, incorporates myriads of improvements based directly on feedback from the entire wargaming community (customers, reviewers and prospective buyers alike). With the release of v1.02, Command extends its lead against any other title in the genre (incl. longtime stalwarts of the niche) even more and further establishes itself as the undisputed heavyweight champion of modern air/nav wargaming. It was already a bargain, now it’s a screaming steal. Improvements: * VASTLY BETTER performance & stability, on all aspects of the game (startup, UI/map & simulation engine) * VASTLY IMPROVED user interface with lots of new features, fixes & changes in every aspect (map, unit control, DB viewer etc.) straight from user feedback * HUNDREDS of bugs & problems fixed MORE PoWERFUL scenario editor & mission editor * MORE configurable realism options (e.g. unlimited aircraft weapons at bases) for people who want to quickly experiment * MORE simulation realism with new features like variable crew proficiency, improved sonar modelling, more AI & doctrine options and other additions & fixes * COUNTLESS database additions & tweaks * IMPROVED & reworked versions of official scenarios MORE scenarios, MORE DB images & descriptions* IMPROVED multimedia experience with new sound effects & optional background music

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Coming Soon To Pc KONAMI's stunning action title slices its way to PC via Steam and other download services. Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. has announced the PC version of its all-action Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance title will soon be available via download services. KONAMI has also revealed that those downloading the PC iteration will also receive the acclaimed VR Missions, and the two character-led Bladewolf and Jetstream DLC chapters, absolutely free. Also added in the menu selection options, users will be able to play all the cutscenes and codec conversations, as well as replay any of the boss battles. Developed by Kojima Productions and PlatinumGames, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance takes the renowned Metal Gear franchise into exciting new territory with an all-new action experience. The game seamlessly melds pure action and epic story-telling that surrounds Raiden – a child soldier transformed into a half-human, half-cyborg ninja who is equipped with his signature High-Frequency Blade and a quest for revenge. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is set in the near future, where technology is commonplace throughout society. The use of cybernetic elements to augment physical ability has triggered instability and conflict, and large Private Military Companies (PMCs) have given way to rogue entities that carry out the illegal wishes of large criminal groups. These renegade forces are now employing the cybernetic technology to leverage political power for their employers, and we are introduced to Raiden as he falls foul of a related plan to kidnap an African President. The plan’s instigator – Samuel – leaves Raiden severely wounded and the President is taken from his care and killed. Thus, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance begins with Raiden searching for Sam and looking for revenge for the wounds he has suffered. The game duly takes the form of a sprawling mix of exploration and combat, with Raiden’s deadly High-Frequency Blade capable of cutting through absolutely anything, while a host of vehicles and elements familiar to the Metal Gear universe also come into play. The aforementioned free DLC also serves to flesh out the backgrounds to two key characters, focusing on Raiden’s canine companion and the renegade Samuel. A huge success on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance comes to PC with all the famed moves and action running within a beautifully-realised HD environment. Users will also have new graphic adjustment options, enabling them to modify resolution, anti-aliasing, as well as the amount of cuts you can make via the ‘Zandeki’ option - Raiden has never looked so good…

In 2017, all the archives of the investigation will be revealed to the public. Still today, the doubts about who is behind it, the motivations and the perpetrators, remain complete. The magic bullet remains a mystery! In " Hidden Files – Echoes of JFK ", the player investigates on a case parallel to the president’s murder. As special agent Jane Sully, the player is sent by the FBI’s boss to resolve the mystery around the death of journalist Jack Olsen who was himself investigating on JFK’s case. In this interactive investigation, phases of research of hidden objects follow on with puzzles and mini-games in order to progress and eventually solve the case. The player moves freely in different areas. His sense of observation, exploration and deduction are required all through the adventure to discover clues in the mysterious murder. Computer hacking, shooting sequences or print recognition are among the numerous actions to be carried out to progress in the investigation. It is possible to pass them, though, after a certain time if the player wants to. Thanks to the new interface, it is possible to check at any time the inventory where all the collected objects are listed and to get some help (reminder of the objectives or clues during the scenes of hidden objects). For the fans of history and plots, 50 pieces of info or facts about the JFK case are spread and can be collected all along the adventure. "Hidden Files – Echoes of JFK " also includes the traditional adventure game features such as the use of objects from the inventory on the scenery. For instance, the player will have to compare the tire traces with the ones previously found to confirm they both match. The Microïds Games for All title invites the player to dive into one of the mysteries that has been fascinating the collective unconscious for several generations.

Your latest release seems to be creating quite a stir over the whole Love/Hate name issue. When you first started putting this record together did you think that there would be any issues over the name usage? I actually did not. 2 of the original guys don't play music anymore and haven't for many years. I had an argument with one ex-member over compensation and I decided not to include him. To de-fuse any animosity I decided to change the name. And now we move on.... Reading between the lines from the statement that you put out it’s pretty clear that you feel that people don’t fully appreciate how difficult the touring scene is right now. Has touring changed much throughout the years be it with Love/Hate or as a solo artist? Better to ask yourself if Love/Hate was such a financial boon why would I be singing in other bands since 1998?
What are your favourite songs on Crucified? I like them all for different reasons. 'Hanging' I like for its simplicity and direct chorus, also the lyrics are great. 'Sunny Day' came out better than I had hoped, thanks to guitar player Mike Szuter and his Univibe. 'Be your Baby' is so ironic it kills me, I don't know why more people don't see that. "Love is All' is great because I got to go places musically not normally done in a 3 minute pop song. How do you think the Love/Hate fans will react to this release? They will like it. Politics aside this record was made for the right reasons.
For the un-initiated, what will a typical day on the road be like for you on this upcoming tour? I don't want to make it sound too horrible, most people who hate their current jobs would give their right arm to drive around in a van all day and play music at night. Its fun when you're in your 20's - very fun. We briefly mentioned the mini album earlier. ‘Crucified’ as a name for the album seems a pretty strange choice as names go. Where did the name come from? CRUCIFIED is me hanging on the Hollywood Sign...and a metaphor for other things. The release is described as being a mini-album. Will this be a ‘teaser’ release for a full length album?
People don't buy music anymore, we all know that. So I thought of the 6 songs as a sort of compromise for the times and a way to give fans something.
It has recently been revealed that you are the new vocalist for Quiet Riot. How are things going with the band? Very good. I look forward to getting a neckache from Banging my Head for a long time to come. Are there any updates on the new Quiet Riot album that you can share with the Firebrand Magazine readers? It is traditional rock in the vein of traditional rock. I sang great and the musicians are awesome...but you already know that! Are there any messages that you would like to pass onto your fans? This will be the last time I come to the UK as Love/ Hate in any incarnation so any fans tride and true come celebrate its End and a new beginning in style with no regrets.

When a band has ten studio albums under their belt you tend to have an idea as to what you are going to get on a new release, something that's not hugely different to what they have become know in style, and with Primal Fear that's pretty much true with their new album Delivering The Black, they are, and have been, for me one of the top level of Power Metal bands out there. The band itself is made up of a who's who of top class musicians and of course Ralf Scheepers (vocals, formerly of Edguy) always delivers for me and on Delivering The Black this is no exception.
yes you don't have to read that again, there is a ballad on the album - but fear not it's an excellent one, "Born With A Broken Heart" is the track I wasn't expecting to hear on this album, it features some backing vocals from Liv Kristine (Leaves' Eyes) which add a nice diversity to Scheepers main vocal, but her backing vocals are only there as an accompanyment rather than anything like a duet, this along with the first single "When Death Comes Knocking", which has been available since December 2nd as a Digital Single, and the epic "One Night In December" are the stand out tracks for me but I'm sure I'll find myself putting Rebel The last album Unbreakable (2012) was probably their Faction on a lot too as it's a fast powerful track. To me most successful to date, certainly Chartwise and there isn't filler on this album, lots of well structured should give them an excellent base for the launch of songs, and as I mentioned earlier Scheepers really the new album, and although Unbreakable was a good delivers on the vocals everywhere, high, low and on the album I personally much prefer the new album, there’s ballad. a lot more energy and drive and a bit more aggression in it, the second track Rebel Faction really kicks along Overall I think this is one of the most complete Primal at a great pace. The general pattern for the album isn't Fear albums and may become my personal favourite songs quite as fast as that but proper metal/power as I think it's going to stay in rotation with me for quite metal songs, some excellent guitar work from Magnus a while to come, definitely one to look out for when the Karlsson and Alex Beyrodt, Randy Black driving release date arrives in late January 2014, I don't think everything along on drums, bass duties from Matt you'll be disappointed. Sinner with backing vocals too. There is one track that bucks the trend and is a slower pace, a ballad infact,

Highlight of the album: She’s A Star Website: http://www.reverbnation.com/superfecta Reviewer: Jason M Davies
I've always found it a little hard to describe music in words that people can relate to. After all music is a listening experience unique to the listener, I could say that Superfecta are a dirty grunge/melodic hard rock band and although that makes sense to me, it might not to you but with a lack of a better way to put it that is how best I can describe them and this EP. Imagine, if you will, that Nirvana had a baby with Janes Addiction and that baby grew up to be Superfecta and you're kinda getting close to how, in my opinion, the band sounds.
I am left with a want for more from Superfecta and will very interested to see what they follow this EP with as it's a tough act to follow. The boys in the band definitely know what they are doing and I'm sure 2014 will be a great year for them.
So, how does this EP rate? 'Wow' is the one word I'd use to describe this EP above all others. From the opening bars to the final notes, this EP is an absolute pleasure to listen to. Every track is a winner. Very professionally put together and it shows as every song sounds fantastic. Although this EP is only 4 songs long, never a time where the phrase 'quality over quantity' been more apt. Vocally driven, very melodic with killer riffs, awesome solos and very, very moreish.

The Trevor Sewell Band - Independence Record Label: Trevor Sewell Band
9/10
Released: 21 November 2013
Highlight of the album: How Does That Work Website: http://trevorsewell.com Reviewer: Rick ‘Doc’ Palin
To easily class Trevor Sewell as the biggest name you have never heard of is quite literally an understatement. I first came across Trev in ’12 with his release at the time the stunning “Calling Your Name” album pure blues blowing with a sense of Dire Straits working into the delivery which gained Trevor a lot of nominations and awards for blues in the American blues scene. I am very pleased to say that Mr Sewell is back with a vengeance with the brand new album “Independence” titled for his love of being an independent artist. To say that “Independence” is a stunning album is again a bit of an understatement his sound has evolved from “Calling Your Name” and in my view is a much superior release.
“How does that work” is without doubt one of my favourite tracks of the album and features a guest vocalist in the form of Lorraine Crosby who the music history buffs will know worked with the legendary Meatloaf. In fact the entire eleven track album is a superb example in British Blues and Trevor quite rightly deserves to be at the forefront of that genre. Stand out tracks of the album for me have to be “How Does That Work”, “The Train” and “No Future”. A definite must have for any blues fan. This Monkey did, this monkey listened, this monkey thought…. Splendid
The opening track “The Train” is a fast paced track on the subject of addiction and demonstrates his new toy quite extensively a cigar box guitar a very powerful statement and a damn catchy tune as well.

That’s a good thing though. Toby himself was clear on the fact that the Little Angels story was finished, and he’s not trying to hang on to the glory days by producing something that sounds exactly the same. Toby has his own unique style, and it’s impossible to It’s great to hear that this guy hasn’t given up mistake it for anything else. Basically, this EP consists of six songs just Toby on his own, and while there are elements of dripping with quality, that still manage to capture the years gone by occasionally apparent, for the most raw energy from when they were recorded. Highlight of the album: Dear Mum Website: http://www.shamelessrock.com/ Reviewer: Lee Walker
When I stumbled across this album the other day I was a tad surprised when I read the list of musician’s that are part of the project with Steve Summers (Pretty Boy Floyd), Stevie Rachelle (Tuff), Cherie Currie (The Runaways), Teddy ZigZag (Ex Guns n Roses, Alice Cooper) all adding to their own skills to this album. ‘Beautiful Disaster’ opens up with in glamtastic style with the first two tracks (‘Greed Is God’ and ‘Dear Mum’) feeling like they were ripped straight out of the eighties before reverting to a more ‘modern’ glam feel to them which is a trend which continues throughout the remaining tracks of the album. Unfortunately the album takes a couple of unexpected detours with ‘You‘re Not Comin Home’ and a cover of the classic Alice Cooper song ‘Eighteen’ which really don’t do the band justice in my opinion and lead to the album feeling like it lacks consistency and that all important killer touch to take it from an average album with some good tracks into a flawless one.

I will be perfectly honest in saying that I thought this guy had disappeared into the abyss that a lot of rockers end up falling into. It was a big surprise then to be given this to listen to, although not an unwelcome one. I like a lot of guitar virtuosos, so I was very intrigued as to how Axel had progressed, especially as he’d managed to slip under my radar completely.
Musically, there’s just the right mix of everything. Yes Axel can wield an axe, but he’s not one of those guilty of overdoing things. There’s no overindulgent twiddley wankey solos. There are some great guitar parts though, just not to the point of being excessive.
So then, Into The Storm is quite simply a great rock album. There’s no other way of saying it. It’s well worth If I was forced to put this album somewhere in the checking out if you’re a fan of proficient rock musicians, music genres, I’d have to say it was somewhere in the a fan of good music, or just a rock fan in general. Yes, I like this, quite a lot as it happens. I was actually a little apprehensive to start with, as I wasn’t keen on the earlier stuff back when the band first started, but whether it’s my old age, or the band underwent a change in direction, I don’t know, all I know is, that I’ve now got another back catalogue to seek out.

Spider Rockets - Bitten Record Label: P-Dog Records
9/10 Released: TBC
Highlight of the album: Break Website: http://www.spiderrockets.com Reviewer: Jon Seymour
This is one of those bands that I stumbled upon quite by accident. The album isn’t actually available physically outside of the US as far as I know, although plans are in the pipeline, but it is available digitally. It’s well worth getting too. Those of you who read my reviews regularly will know that female rock vocalists are something I am a great fan of, so I’m always interested to hear something new. The album was actually released in 2012, but it’s due over here in Europe soon, so it’s well worth a mention.
The vocals match the music too, I couldn’t find any point where the vocals got lost in the music, despite it being louder and heavier than a vast majority of female vocalists can handle. For me though, this album is quite strange. I’m not sure why, but it just sounds a little weird. Not in a bad way, as it’s a very good album, there’s just something there that I can’t quite fathom. Maybe a few more listens will let me get to the bottom of it, but for now, it will have to wait.
The album is quite heavy, with short punchy songs, and a whole lot of attitude. It also sounds a little sleazy and grimy at times, but it’s good to get down and dirty sometimes isn’t it? This is an album of mixed tempos and mixed styles, from out and out gutter rock, to spaced out psychedelia almost. It’s all good quality stuff though, and it keeps the album fresh all the way through, and it keeps you interested from start to finish.
Ring Of Fire - Battle Of Leningrad Record Label: Frontiers Records
8/10
Released: 24 January 2014
Highlight of the album: Where Angels Play Website: Reviewer: Stoodge Mc Nulty
Fronted by Mark Boals (ex-Yngwie J. Malmsteen), Ring Of Fire have returned in triumphant and exuberant fashion. This is the bands forth studio album and first release since 'Lapse Of Reality' in 2004. Over the past decade Boals, Tony Mac Alpine and ex drummer Virgil Donati were busy with their progressive rock outfit Seven The Hardway.
For a band from California ROF are equipped with an empowering neo classical persuasion, it's easy to forget when listening that these guys aren't European. 'Where Angels Play' the title track and 'No Way Out' further cement this album as a fine and welcome return.
'Mother Russia' as an opener immediately reinforces this album with hardened steel and strength, which is something this record has a wealth of. Second track 'They're Calling Your Name' continues in a similar vein only this time there's no mention of Mongols or Ivan The Great. As an album, this is a pretty consistent metallic overture. 'Empire' 'Land Of Frozen Tears' and 'Firewind' do bring some appeasement to the record, but as a whole it's a relentless and unceasing composition.

Eat The Gun - Stripped To The Bone Record Label: Steamhammer/SPV
9/10
Released: 25 November 2013
Highlight of the album: Loner Website: http://www.eatthegun.com/ Reviewer: Lee Walker
Having not really heard of Eat The Gun before the first thing that struck me was the abstract artwork of the stripped down car base on the cover with its cleaver reference to the album title (‘Stripped To The Bone’). Musically speaking I was somewhat surprised when I finally had the chance to hit play on this album mainly due to mistakenly thinking that they would be heavier than they actually are. Style wise the closest I could come to explaining the ‘Eat The Gun’ sound would be to compare them to bands such as The Killers with the feel good breed of pop rock being the back bone of this musical beast, effortlessly creating a series of insanely catchy songs guaranteed to get you nodding along to as the feel good factor takes hold of you with ‘Won’t Let You Down’ being the only song which seems out of place but that said though ‘Stripped To The Bone’ is insanely addictive and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see this band being ‘pushed” as the next big thing next year.

It would seem that I get a lot of the female vocal albums to listen to. Just as well I like most of them then isn’t it? I would say that this sits slap bang in the middle of AOR and symphonic metal. If I’m honest, it sounds a little clichéd, and maybe a little too nostalgic, but really, that’s just being picky. It’s not at all bad by any stretch of the imagination, but by the same token, it’s not genre defining or setting off blazing new trails into the unknown. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with taking a tried and tested formula and doing it well though, nothing wrong at all. They manage to pull it off too.
I’m glad this is just my opinion. Is it worth buying? Yes it is, especially if you’re into Within Temptation, Delain, and other similar bands. Is this as good? Maybe not quite, but my opinion might be very different if I’d listened to this album first in my review queue. It’s a very good album, but I think it just misses out on being great.
It’s a good album by all accounts, but occasionally it finds its self in danger of being lost in amongst the endless sea of other music out there. There are some moments on the album that elevate it above others, but not quite enough in my opinion. That said, I’ve listened to several albums before this one, and loved them, so this might just be suffering more as a result.

Jizzy Pearl’s Love/Hate - Crucified Record Label: Self Release

Highlight of the album: Too Late Website: http://www.jizzypearl.com Reviewer: Jon Seymour
I’ll admit to being one of those people who’d only really listened to the first couple of albums from Love/Hate, but I also have to say that Blackout In The Red Room is still one of my all time favourite albums. Fast forward 20 or so years (yeah I know it’s more than that, I’m just summarising here) and we’ve got a new mini album to wrap our ears around.
That said, this is well worth spending your money on, and if you’ve not heard of them before, it’s a great place to start to get an overall feel of what they sound like.
The first thing that surprised me, is the fact that Jizzy’s vocals still have pretty much the same power and range, even after all this time. Musically, it’s classic Love/Hate but while it’s instantly familiar, it’s also been updated to make it fresh and relevant. Yes the band sound as good today as they always did. My only complaint about this is that there’s not enough of it. After listening to it you’re left feeling that you want a lot more, and because of that it just kind of feels incomplete. That’s not a bad thing of course, because if something leaves you wanting more, then it’s done the job. Personally though, six songs aren’t enough for me.

Hailing from the US I have to admit that Benedictum are not a band I've been familiar with at all in their 7 year existence. Female fronted (Veronica Freeman) and based in San Diego, Obey is their 4th studio album and has a very dated sound to my ears. Even after a number of listens Obey just isn't grabbing my attention, there's elements of Thrash and old school Metal in there and "Fractured" is probably the track that kept me going through the first half of the album, but there just wasn't enough substance for me through the album to bring me back for more.
dust rather than getting repeated plays, certainly not one that I would be digging out for repeated listens, even the track "Cry" which features none other than Tony Martin, formerly of Black Sabbath, doesn't elevate it beyond an average release, but it is above the standard of the rest of the album and certainly worth a listen on its own merits, but that may be more for the fact that I've always been a Tony Martin fan.
Vocally it's a little dull overall, with elements of influences stretching from "Doro" to "The Great Kat" I am just left thinking that Obey could have been a lot better and wondering if this it’s Benedictum's peak or are they still settling on a lineup that will produce the album they are trying to get out there. Oddly the track "Thornz" made me think of Dante Fox in places, so maybe it's just a bit confused in places. It's not a terrible album, just one for me that would be gathering

OK let’s get something straight right from the off. This band on first impressions, sound as sleazy as they come. In fact they could have, Cockney accents aside, come straight out of the LA glam/sleaze scene a la Faster Pussycat et al. At other times though when you get a little deeper into it, they sound like a modern day Rolling Stones and then even a little like the (London) Quireboys. Now that’s out of the way, what’s left? Well quite a bit actually. The subject material is a modern day satire on the state of the country, the economy, and pretty much everything else that people have to face these days. The songs are well put together though, and seem upbeat, even with some of the darker subject matter.
being pleasantly surprised by this album, as it certainly makes you think. The music is extremely varied from song to song, and if you listen to the lyrics properly, it can transport you to some pretty dark territory. Personally though, I think this is a great album. It’s got variety, attitude, and enough grime to leave you wanting to spend a week in the shower after listening to it. Yes it will drag you down into the gutter and leave you there, and then piss on you for good measure. The things is though, you’ll be too busy feeling good to notice. Yeah, this is some impressive stuff.
Musically, it’s a mix of groove laden sleaze rock, with whiskey soaked vocals, and a good mix of keys and brass. There are even some elements of Ska, Reggae and Blues thrown in for good measure. I admit to
