ROUTE 66 ZINE
"Route 66 Drifters" is a digital art collection created by artist, digital nomad & traveler, Rick Ricardo.

"In the late 1990s and early part of this century, I traveled a few times with my friend Steve along Route 66 and other roads in the American West. These are my visual notes from the road.

Route 66 as a metaphor for life. The landscapes we encountered and portraits of some of the people we met along the way, in bars, restaurants, motels, gas stations and hitchhiking.

The spirit of Route 66, Is one of freedom and adventure, Of throwing caution to the wind, And seeing where the road takes you.

The wind in my hair, the sun on my face, I am a part of the landscape, A traveler on the Mother Road, A modern-day vagabond.

She's a stranger, in every town. A wanderer, with no fixed ground

She's searching for something, she can't name. A purpose, in this endless game

O ivia Santa Rosa 1997

"From the windy streets of Chicago, To the sun-drenched beaches of Santa Monica, Route 66 winds its way, Through small towns and big cities, Each with its own story to tell.

It's a spirit of America, Of the heartland and the wild west, Of the struggles and the triumphs”

James, Flagstafff 1997
“For the road is my home, And the journey is my life, And I'll keep on going, Until the end of my strife"
“You feel the history of the road Of the travelers who came before you Who hitched their way westward In search of a better life”
Hazel
Hazel, Palo Duro 1998

“Route 66 lives on in the hearts of those Who've traveled its roads, Through the dust and the dirt, Through the heat and the cold, Through the ups and the downs, Through the good times and the bad.

It's a spirit of freedom, Of breaking free from the mold, Of chasing our dreams, And seeing where they'll take us. It's a spirit of hope, Of believing in the impossible, Of reaching for the stars”

Ozzy

Through the deserts and the dusty plains Liam wanders, with no set aims. The road is his home, his only guide. A constant companion, by his side He's a poet of the open road, With a voice that echoes the cries of his soul. And he'll keep traveling

Liam, Albuquerque 2001

“As I serve plates of hot food, I see the rides come and go, Each with a story to tell, And a destination to know. The freedom and the thrill, And I smile as I watch them go”

He's a lonely hitchhiker, With a heart that beats to the rhythm of the road. He's a wanderer, a searcher, a dreamer, And he'll keep moving on, till the end of his life.

The rolling hills and endless skies, a symphony on the road
