Many of us have a cleaning strategy we employ when it’s time to wash our space. Unfortunately, this kind of strategic method can mean certain areas of your home go overlooked for months, or even years. BASEBOARDS The quickest method for removing dust from baseboards is to use the brush attachment on your vacuum. To remove any scuff marks, gently scrub the baseboards with a cleaning sponge like a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. CURTAINS A simple way to freshen up curtains in between washes is to use a vacuum. Use the vacuum’s brush extension to remove any dust or debris from the curtains. BLINDS Grab a pair of tongs, wrap two microfiber cloths around them and fasten with rubber bands. Clasp the tongs around each blind and drag across to remove dust. CEILING FAN Instead of using a rag to clean the fan, try using a pillowcase. If you’re looking to add a bit more green to your design scheme, you’re not alone. House plants are a popular way to add fresh beauty, and clean up your air while you’re at it. However, keeping a house plant healthy is a responsibility, even if it’s a small one. Consider the following plants that are both beautiful and easy to manage.

ALOE. You really can’t go wrong with succulents, and these cool plants can also help ward off sunburn. Just strip off a leaf, open it up, and rub the ooey-gooey insides on your sun-kissed skin.

ORCHIDS. These sweet blooms are beautiful and low maintenance. Just keep a small misting bottle beside your plant and give it a gentle spray once a week.

PEACE LILY. These graceful plants don’t need a lot of light, so they’re perfect for perching in your living room.

SNAKE PLANT. Don’t let the slithery name fool you. Another succulent, this interesting upright plant can deal in bright or lowlight settings, and can survive with minimal amounts of water.

ENGLISH IVY. If you want a hanging plant, this vine is for you. Place this ivy on a shelf or mantel and let the vines hang down. You can let the plant run wild, or prune it back for a more manageable look.

QUESTIONS TO ASK DURING YOUR PRE-CONSTRUCTION MEETING Embarking on a remodeling project is an exciting endeavor—you’re finally going to get that new kitchen or finished basement you’ve been longing for. But going under the knife, so to speak, is also a stressful prospect. That’s why scheduling a pre-construction meeting with your remodeling professional is so important. According to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), the pre-construction meeting is a key opportunity for the remodeler to explain exactly what will be done, as well as how the job will progress. It also provides a chance for both parties to define their expectations and flag any problems that may arise. The goal is to alleviate as many surprises in advance as possible. With peak home remodeling season right around the corner, now is the time to contact your trusted contractor or home remodeler to discuss a remodel. Here are just some of the issues the NAHB recommends you discuss with your remodeling professional during the pre-construction meeting: Are you okay with signs on your property? In addition to acting as a marketing tool, signs help contractors and suppliers locate your home. Decide now whether you will agree to this. If you have an alarm system, determine how it will be handled. Will you give the construction crew a key, or do you plan on having someone on the premises to let them in?

Ask if any utilities will be interrupted during the remodel, such as water or electric, and if so, for how long. This will help you decide whether you will need to find other accommodations for a period of time. What are your rules concerning workers using your landline for local calls? What about using your bathroom? Figure out a plan for removal of trash. Agree upon where the dumpster will be located. Discuss which areas of your home will be off limits to workers. You may discover that workers need access to certain rooms for part of the project. What will take place in terms of daily cleanup? Make sure your expectations are in sync with what will actually take place. When will work begin and end each day? Where will workers park? Once you find out, be sure to let neighbors know. Let your remodeler know what your rules are when it comes to smoking, profanity and music.

Prospective Buyers If you think a mansion-like size, a swanky neighborhood or lavish grounds are the only way to impress visitors to your home, think again.
