[Regeneration]

Community Design Studio _Bellefonte, PA

Barry Kew, Maria Counts

The town of Bellefonte is home to a rich history of industry and culture. Throughout the extent of it’s history, Bellefonte has experienced booms and declines. using the terms of the past and a new community schematic, bellefonte will now be connected to all points within its Georgian style. By the usage of strong circulatory design and community needs, a master plan was developed to revitalize the town. Overall, the plan is aimed to

boost the economy and ecosystems within the towm’s flood plain. New open lawn spaces, bridges, tunnels, event lawns and 20st century infrastructure all set a new standard for small town reclamation.

[West Campus Commons] IN Depth Studio _Nanjing, Jiangsu, China

Professors: Ron Henderson, James Wines

“Near to rivers, we recognize fish, near to mountains, we recognize the songs of birds. It is very important to make on-the-spot investigations.” In summary, any site in

A popular Chinese saying reads

general cannot be fully experienced through the the 2nd or 3rd person perspective. The one true way to find a personal connection with a place is through 1st person interaction. One of the major artifacts throughout Nanjing’s storied history is the anchiect city wall. Therefore the mere purpose of this site is the value of the “In person” experience visitors will endure. Physical interaction, views, and circulation bring the individual in direct connection with the history of Ming and Wu dynasties. The Eastern Wu

Dynasty Museum on the South West side of the Qinhuai River

promotes vantage points that allow the viewer to gaze and contemplate about the long history of China. Through the approach sequence, added to the panoramic views throughout the building, one thing is evident; the wall. On the North side of the wall, a trail takes one on a journey up onto the top of the wall. Throughout the horizontal surfaces of the ground below, the meandering trails guide the users directly up to the wall for a deeper connection. The connection between the horizontal and Vertical surfaces tells a story about how powerful and true “on-the-spot” investigations can influence a site design that appeals not just to Chinese culture, but to all cultures around the world.
