CONCEPT DIAGRAM
The building mass is segmented to gate, plinth and tower. Existing buildings and new structures are related by voids that consolidates visual and emotional images of historical value. Thus, a void above the gateway gives a visitor the ability to experience the multi-layered space where all 014 segments of building mingle together. Gardens are implemented into the tower plan as part of the synergy theory. They aid in regulating climate, connecting different storeys and rendering the environment more cosier. In addition, gardens are part of the economical scheme of urban culture, providing several species of food to the culinary centre. The exterior part of the tower forms an exploded view due to green spots of the plan where gardens are aiming towards the urban user.

Program & Planning There are 38 occupied floors of office program and their accessory uses. The tower is divided in to 2 main zone. The Low / Mid rise Zone, spanning for Level 4 to Level 26 while the High Rise Zone spans from level 28 to level 38. Each zone has dedicated elevators. The area of each floor is 1,650 square meters. It is important to note that the High Zone net useable increases as the elevators serving the Low / Mid zone drop off. The Core configuration has been located to optimize structure, planning efficiency but to also enable 360 degree views, flexibility in planning in both single and multi-tenant configurations.

Atrium Much attention, thought and investigation has been given to understanding the importance of each side of the building. The corner location of Block 2 has made evident that the site and the proposed building are a “gateway”. A gateway functions as a connector, forging relationships, but with equal importance it acts as a transition, promoting transformation. These are the challenges and opportunities the building on Block 2 which it must successfully meet. With this in mind, it was evident that the importance of the west side of the building discernibly transcends the other sides, visually, physically and symbolically. The west has visibility toward the water and is more visible. The Meng Hai Boulevard and the continuous green space along the Meng Hai provide a wider setback from other buildings to the west as it connects the south to the north. Symbolically the west side also faces and connects to the Pearl River Delta but also to the rest of the world to the west. Symbolically connecting with the rest of the world and echoing the international presence of the China Taiping Finance Tower. Locating the atrium and allowing the building to unfold and reveal itself, on the west side of the building was a natural choice. The exterior façade on the west folds in to itself and much like a fabric to create a vertical atrium centrally along that façade to connect spaces and adjacencies and transform them in to an increasingly communal elements such as meeting areas, lounge areas and spaces which facilitate interaction. It is further punctuated intermittently with Green zones Levels 12 and 27 terminating into a large protected roof Garden at the top of the building. The atrium exterior wall is a double skin façade allowing for superior insulation, temperature consistency and more efficient use of the building’s mechanical systems. The atrium itself is an interface at which the surrounding area “enters” the building and the interior reaches out to the community. It softly opens at the bottom and the top of the building tapering in the center connecting the ground and the sky. It is the spirit of the building connecting, creating unions and transformations.

The main entrance of the China Taiping Tower is located on the South of site from where the lobby extends around and to all sides of the building. To the West, the lobby transforms to a serene sculptural garden and termination of the atrium above. To the East the lobby becomes an art gallery. Finally to the North the lobby connects with a vibrant retail component on the ground floor of the podium and the Sub grade level concourse. The north lobby also acts as secondary entrance for pedestrians approaching the site from the north. There is an additional entry lobby on the north at Level B1 to accommodate concourse population arriving via metro public transit system.
