THE BOOK OF LIFE The book of life is based on A Mexican mythology and life after death. The story is about the journey of Manolo, a young man who is torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family and following his heart. The story was a base to the program. The function of the program is to make a children’s center. This site is located in Paris. In this program the activities were chosen in relevance to the story. Things to learn from the story is remembering their ancestors, rituals and saving the environment. That’s why activities - Farming, food distribution, storytelling, painting and material arts were incorporated in the building which relates to the French culture and art. The masses are very individual as they tell their own story yet they are interlinked with each other with the help of bridges. The building circulation goes from underground to the highest point of the building gradually. The pathways are interconnected, curvilinear and above the ground.

TALKING HOUSES

This was a slum redevelopment program. The site was located in Ahmedabad and FSI was taken 4. The idea behind the program was to understand the culture of the community and build houses according to that. This community relies on making the Idols of the lord. The space inside the house was only used for sleeping and cooking purposes. For that reason a huge working space has been given on the ground floor and as well as the space outside the houses. The circulation of the houses are not only from the staircase but also from different type of pathways that leads to different unit of the building which makes the circulation more fluid and makes this program called TALKING HOUSES.

ABSTRACTION TO DESIGN

The idea behind the project was to understand flora and fauna of the region to understand the climate. Initial form of the building came from the flora of the site. This site is located in Garli, Himachal Pradesh. The key word for the project was “ENTWINE”. So in design the form is emerging with the landscape of the site. The contemporary structure is entwining with surrounding landscape. Aspects like two floors talking and two very different functions like café and empty theatre having visual connection. Free plans are justifying the concept of design though it can be used as multifunctional area.

Bruder Klaus Field Chapel Architect : Project Year: Location :

Peter Zumthor 2007 Mechernich, Germany

Bruder klaus chapel is a unique catholic chapel with a very different construction method. Idea behind making the scale model of the church was to understand construction method, light and the concept of design. SECTION

The most interesting aspects of the church are in construction method from a wigwam made of 112 tree trunks premises. Once finished formwork, the concrete layers were tamped over existing surface. That is exactly how the scale model was also build. It creates solid-void contrast as well as the form of inside and outside is really very different.
