We are hosting the first Virtual Summer Camp EVER. Your daughter will take part in a fun new way to participate in Camp Diva Leadership Academy activities from the comfort of her own home that’ll keep her busy learning, laughing and having a good time—While You Get Stuff Done.
June 22– August 15th 1st–2nd Graders Flexible timing. Use at your leisure to keep your girls empowered and entertained. Access to On-Demand Modules. Black Girls Running The Show Facilitated by Genisus Holland a writer, motivational speaker, and activist.
Why is it important to keep our girls engaged? The summer mind slip is a real issue for our youth. Especially during these unprecedented times, when our girls will be stuck inside, with not much else to do. Keeping our girls engaged and productive is healthy for their minds, bodies, and souls. It will be especially beneficial to have them involved in such a positive, socially culturally relevant program such as Black Girls Run The Show. It will be reaffirming to the magnificent image of Black girls that they should hold inside of their mind, and nurturing towards their self-esteem. Being engaged with this program will also help our girls stay more engaged in our community, loving and learning more about the absolutely amazing power that their melanin skin holds. These are all one and done, click and watch videos that do not have to be done in any specific order, or at any specific time! Each video module will be an hour long and contain something for the girls to do to follow along or to do as a take away. A total of 16 videos will be done that can be watched at your own pace. The subjects of the videos will range from reading time, puppet shows, and sing-alongs, accompanied by body movements, stomping, or clapping and social emotional learning! These modules are catered to keeping the 1st–2nd grade girl engaged, so that during this time, our girls can continue to grow. These modules are the perfect way to bring Camp Diva into your home with sessions like R-E-S-P-E-C-T, The History is in Me, and My Hair Don’t Care, and more. Read the summaries and titles of each video as well as the materials needed and you are good to go; they can be done at any place or any time! Enjoy!

What is a zine? A zine is a self-created, self-published booklet of any length, size, or topic. Many zines are reproduced and distributed at large or small scale. Zines/eZines are historically part of counterculture movements and art scenes outside of the mainstream. This summer Camp Diva Leadership Academy is running an eZine series for our 3rd–5th grade girls. Our live session will be offered Tuesday– Thursday starting the week of June 22nd ending August 14th. Participants are encouraged to remix and reinterpret a range of materials using scissors, glue, construction paper, and now their tablet or laptop. This project will not only help the girls become more deeply rooted in their identity but also positively influence how they feel about themselves. At the end of each session, the group is shown how to fold, collate, bind and reproduce their eZines so that they are ready to display online. Your daughter will be immersed in an online series exploring her creativity and self expression. The eZine workshops will encourage freedom of speech and allow her to express herself and discover her voice. This program grants them the opportunity to unleash their creativity. It inspires innovation and self-expression and positive identity.
June 22– August 15th 6th–8th Graders Monday-Thursday 9am–4pm Breaking the Mold Facilitated by S.T.E.A.M. Specialty Instructors, Girl Advocate leaders, and Girls For A Change Summer Camp Instructors. The instructors are the keepers of the Camp Diva experience. They facilitate every moment of learning and fun, encourage girls as they learn new, challenging and difficult skills, and build community and culture between the participants, instructors, and guests.
June 22–July 3 • A Perfect Finish Let’s kickstart the summer with a spectacular experience! The word “fashion” is often equated with high-end, unaffordable, exaggerated outfits. However, Black fashion has made its mark on the world with a shoestring string budget. For two weeks, you will discover talented, yet undiscovered artisans with many years of experience in buying, merchandising, producing, and styling in fashion. These emerging Black designers are fully prepared to prove that anyone who has clothes is a participant in the fashion industry and all it takes is a little pop to update even the most basic outfit. If you are a fashion enthusiast, you cannot miss this session!
July 6–July 17 • Get Food Focus When you look at the United States, Blacks are at the greatest risk of having stress, diabetes, hypertension, and asthma. These underlying health conditions, as well as heart disease and high blood pressure, put African Americans at greater risk to develop a serious illness from #COVID19 which is exaggerated and driven by poverty and food insecurity. Communities of color have long struggled to access fresh and unprocessed food, yet Black and Latinx workers make up a disproportionate percentage of the food industry. You will take this session to create a food justice driven app with captions, pictures, and videos. The subject will mainly focus on food deserts, healthy eating, and more. All while learning how to make your own app. “If you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together.” So goes a favorite African proverb. By catalyzing the power of people’s words, photos and technology, you will build an appetite for change for your community.

Are you feeling bombarded with messages about the importance of reading? Turning pages may feel like a chore, or maybe, it’s just an activity, like going for a walk or listening to music for you. Overall, some believe reading has lost some of its luster. Our goal is to help you find joy in reading for the first time or reconnect you to why you fell in love with reading in the first place.
