Intro
Barstow Catalog Spring 2016 Page 3
Freedom was a key word in the early days of motorcycling. Obviously, the bikes from those times are now vintage. They could not compete with nowadays’ monsters, by any means. But there was something very nice about them, something which has been (mostly) lost since: character. This is why we still cherish these motorcycles and love to race them, in our modern times. This is what the whole vintage movement is all about. When the pioneers raced the desert from Barstow to Vegas, they had no idea what it would be like to enjoy a triplelayer-foamed, solidly-strapped, antifogged-lensed set of goggles, made of modern materials and featuring such a wide field of view. But those are today’s most advanced standards of comfort and safety, so that’s what you’ll find in the Barstow along with, of course, the vintage style. Now that your eyes and style are taken care of, like they used to say … Gas it!

Go Takamine started his custom bike shop “Brat Style” in Tokyo, Japan back in 1998 at the young age of 23. His style of a stripped down, simplified look instantly influenced the Japanese custom scene and later became a familiar and significant part of the global custom bike scene. His popular style grew over the years and drove Go to the top of the custom bike world where he achieved a high level of notoriety. This success aided in his decision to open a second Brat Style location in America. Centered in Long Beach, California, Go Takamine’s signature style took deeper root in the United States.
BE FIRST BE COOL
Not only do his bikes have an iconic look about them, but they are also very rideable. Go isn’t just another bike builder, but a very talented rider himself. He’s often referred to as the “Japanese Steve McQueen” for his consistent style and authenticity.

The OSFA (One Size Fits All) project is the creation of acclaimed photographer Dimitri Coste. As an influential creative talent, he’s been involved with numerous collaborations, but the OSFA project is the one most significant to Dimitri. His true passion, along with photography, has always been motorcycling. Anytime he can tie together opportunities to do both, he’ll jump at the chance. OSFA is a way for Dimitri to bridge the gap and collectively bring his passion for motorcycles, photography, and design into one collective space. It’s a personal mission that he has sunk his heart and soul into, his own version of a race around the world.

Dimitri’s concept is to race an almost-stock Triumph in all kinds of events while allowing himself to change only tires and handlebars depending of the type of racing. This simple approach is the basis for his OSFA project.

When Coste’s ‘67 Triumph isn’t on the racetrack, it’s transported in his late 80’s Dodge van, dubbed the “Boogie Van.” The Boogie Van is Dimitri’s preferred mode of transportation off the track and served as an inspiration for the packaging of the OSFA goggle.

Deus Ex Machina
Page 18
Deus ex Machina roared into Australia’s cultural consciousness in 2006, with some neatly customized motorcycles and a quaint notion that doing something is more fun than just owning something. Deus ex Machina is a step bigger than a brand: it’s a culture. Their openness and enthusiasm strike a chord with people, wherever they are... Deus didn’t set out only to sell custom parts and hand-built motorcycles, but to celebrate a culture of creativity. The Deus philosophy recalls an era before the various pursuits of fun – motorcycling, surfing, whatever – were marketed into fundamentalist factions.
Pourveyors of possibility
It’s this philosophy that blends perfectly with our way of doing things at 100%. Exploring this culture and creativity together with Deus has resulted in a collab goggle formed from our shared experiences in motorcycling, design, and fashion.

Conifer
Page 22
British born Nicolai Sclater is a very talented yet unconventional artist otherwise known as Ornamental Conifer. Currently living in Los Angeles, Nico applies his unique style to a variety of mediums outside the obvious canvas that most painters apply brush strokes to. His application to more unconventional pieces such as motorcycle fuel tanks, helmets, and most notably leather jackets is what makes him stand out from the rest.
Never perfect but always awesome
Conifer is recognized not only by the objects he’s painting on, but also by his witty messages. For his second Barstow collaboration, Conifer emblazoned the message “Talk Is Cheap” across the back of the goggle strap. The simple, yet direct message is all in good fun and caps off his toothpaste colored goggle perfectly.
