2022 202 3 ANNUAL REPORT

From the
BOARD OF GOVERNORS Our annual report is an opportunity to reflect on the year that has unfolded. As Chair of the Ridley College Board, I feel it is also time for us to celebrate our successes and take stock of all the hard work that has happened for the school. It is a chance to share our story with our Ridley family and congratulate our community on another year well done. As we emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic and had our first school year that was back to “normal," we experienced everything that Ridley has to offer in-person and embraced new and old connections. The theme for the year was “Belong”, which led us to explore and affirm all of the ways that Ridleians feel belonging in and to our special community. I will repeat from last year: while navigating the pandemic we knew we’d be evaluated as an organization and as a school by our progress and our strength in the face of adversity. The results are in: this September, we welcomed another record 797 students to campus, representing 59 countries, for the 2023/24 school year (2022's record start was 764). 261 new students joined us, confirming the value proposition of a Ridley education as it is perceived globally. These record numbers also included recent highs in Canadian boarding. We began the current year under full sail. School travel has fully resumed and we are once again meeting Ridleians where they live, traveling throughout North America, the Caribbean, Asia and the UK. I had the pleasure of joining Headmaster Kidd in 2022/23 for multiple larger branch meetings internationally in London, Montreal and New York and found an amplified enthusiasm — and turnout — from alum of all generations and especially our younger, most recent grads. This wind in the school’s sails is also from so many of you — the Ridley family. Our alumni and donors once again amazed us with their support. Ridley saw approximately $1,500,000 raised for the Ridleian Fund in the year, including $480,000 for our scholarship and bursary
programme, ensuring that our students had the necessary financial support they might need to experience a Ridley education. This total fundraising supported impactful projects like the addition of cutting-edge learning equipment in the Lower School, the refurbishment of the Hog's Back Trail, our positive education partnerships with Irshad Manji and Dr. Greg Wells and new equipment for our music, cadets and rowing programmes, all to enhance the student experience. In addition to annual fundraising, The Campaign for Ridley continues towards the finish line, and we have raised over $51 million, making this the largest fundraising campaign in the school’s history. We broke ground for this project in 2022 and significant progress has been made on the Iggulden Building conversion and Athletic Complex renovation and addition. There is a buzz of “transformation excitement” on campus. We look forward to opening these new facilities in 2024 and celebrating the success of this project together on-campus when construction is complete. Please check out what we’ve been doing, if you aren’t aware, by visiting www.ridleycollege.com/campaign. The Board continues with meaningful short and long-range work, guiding the strategy pillars of the school, fulfilling mission and vision, as well as optimizing all of Ridley’s assets and campus. My fellow Governors and I have significant pride in Ridley’s leadership and in the union between employees and volunteers who cement our position as the Canadian leader that we are. The state of this union is strong! Thank you all, and please take pride in your school for its service, culture of belonging and courage. Terar Dum Prosim, David K. Carter ’88 Chair, Board of Governors

A Year to be Tiger Proud
Friendship
Our team’s desire was to create an environment and culture where everyone felt welcome, included, heard and proud to be a member of the Guild. This year's team worked together to enhance the remarkable work done in years prior and ensure our vision was always top of mind. With the backdrop of the 100th year of the Guild, we included the Past Presidents in our meetings to recite our prayer, vision and mission and share their Tiger Proud moments. The beauty of the Guild is that it brings current and alumni parents from all over the world together who share a common bond through our school and our children. That is something I feel Tiger Proud to be a part of!
There is nothing more wonderful than to be a part of a group of people working together in service, building friendships along the way that last a lifetime. We hosted our much-loved bowling night at Parkway Social, introduced our family skate night with Santa, had some wonderful families teach us dumpling making and held a charcuterie board building night. We also ensured there was built in time before or after each meeting for socializing. To build those feelings of belonging, we introduced our Guild merchandise, to rave reviews, and our 100th anniversary pins. Our Staff and Faculty Appreciation Day was “sup-herb” with herb plants as a token of our appreciation from the Guild members to our Ridley team. We also hosted a coffee and snack table for Cadet Inspection and our Baking for Boarders initiative for our Lower School boarders.
Service of the Guild To demonstrate our commitment to Terar Dum Prosim and community service, our monthly meetings included presentations by Ridley student service clubs who are passionate about supporting people, whether in our community or abroad. Witnessing their passion and commitment and hearing about their work was engaging and educational for us all. The Guild also held the Taurus Moon Concert and our family skate, which included the Ridley student Houses sharing their House charities. We held our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive for Community Care, donated over 300lbs. of clothing to Goodwill and recycled over 100 bags. The Guild helped to decorate for the amazing Paris, France-themed Cadet Ball, provided Lower School play support and supported with exam proctoring and the school's Book Fairs, along with other school events where needed.

Fundraising Our plan for 2022/23 was to introduce some new fundraisers, while bringing back some favourites with a twist! A returning favourite was our Designer Purse Bingo with a theme of "Through the Decades." This year, the chairs expanded the capacity and we moved to the Great Hall. What a fabulous evening full of amazing bags and even some for the men this year. Our holiday raffle took on a new twist with over $9,000 in prizes packages to be won. We sold over 900 tickets to our Ridley and outside community and announced our winners at our inaugural family skate. January brought our Taurus Moon Concert in collaboration with Raine Maida ’88, Chantal Kreviazuk and Rowan Maida '23. We sold over 270 tickets for an evening of celebration, community building and fundraising. Our loved trivia night was an evening

to remember, with many laughs and comradery. Our 2nd annual Hockey Night at Cat’s Caboose is becoming a much loved event and this year we were honoured to have Summer Rae Dobson '17 speak to us about her hockey career and success through the Ridley Women’s Prep Hockey team. We also hosted the meat and seafood fundraiser with alumni PML Latcham Meats, an online art auction with donations from Chantal Kreviazuk, David German, Natasha Bradley, Duane Nickerson, and student art pieces. Our Recycled Uniform Programme was busy all year, with great sales. We managed to sort and recycle 100 bags of old uniforms and with the introduction of the new Guild merchandise we were able to bridge a financial gap between the transition from the old to the new uniforms. Finally, we hosted Tiger Fest, a wonderful way to end our year with Tiger Pride. Our fundraising success was only possible with the advice and support of so many committee chairs and volunteers. Together, we were able to raise over $90,000, which was donated back to the school.
Anita Robertson Award This year, we introduced the RCFG Anita Robertson Award. This award is in honour of a long-standing Guild volunteer, past president, and alumni parent of Ridley. This new award will be presented annually at the AGM to recognize an exemplary member of the Guild who continually demonstrates outstanding volunteerism and service to the Ridley College Family Guild. This year’s recipient was Mrs. Nancy McLeod-Elder. For our inaugural recipient, there was no one more fitting than Nancy. She has been an active member of the Guild for over 20 years and has spent countless hours as the Guild Secretary, on the Chapel Committee and co-chair for the Trivia Night fundraiser. There is never an event, meeting
or occasion for the Guild that Nancy is not an active part of, bringing her calm demeanour and grace. It was our honour to present the award to Nancy.
Legacy Celebrating the 100th year of the Guild was indeed a memorable and historic moment. We held our changeover meeting, highlighting the Class of 2023 parents, the Anita Robertson Award, and our 100th celebration with our 100th pins and playing the Legacy video. That evening Ridley hosted a special dinner in honour of the Guild’s service which included so many who have been instrumental in the Guild’s legacy over the years. My personal legacy to the Guild was having my grandmother, Bessie Court, serve as the Woman’s Guild President from 1948–1950. It has been a pleasure serving as The RCFG President and I look forward to becoming the Past President and continuing the legacy of Terar Dum Prosim. Suzanne Court ’86 PRESIDENT 9

G.O. Watson Memorial Bursary Fund 136,339
This document reflects revised endowment fund details as a result of a write down due to one of the fund's negative contributors. Bridging Income was written down to zero value while the fund is managed by a receiver and authorities investigate the managers of the fund. If at the end of the investigation there is some value in the investment, the Foundation will recognize the increase in value at that time.
