jellyfish
a majestic creature of the sea continues to spark question, leaving those who are before it’s presence to be left with a sense of awe and serenity.
curvilinear form of the being create the feeling of elegance and poise.
dependent on the depth of the species habitat, some have evolved to be luminous in order to survive the seemingly endless darkness.
based on the nature of jellyfish, the design intent is to incorporate its effortless elegance as well as the provoked thought of wonder.
emphases on the contrast of day and night can be conveyed through lighting to influence moods and feelings.
6
as the vessel begins to loose sight of the sun, shadows begin to dance among the form of the architecture, creating a utopian experience to those who dwell.
embraced by grandiose structure, a sense of serenity settles when one’s eyes notice the subtle curves and soft textures throughout.

the utopian experience aboard arcadia heavily includes sustainable features. every individual traveling on the vessel is equipped with a smart watch, designed specifically for the cruise ship. the watch hones technology to not only make the stay for the guests more alluring but to promote sustainability.
the watch includes features such as sensing when a guest is in a certain area, which automatically changes the temperature of the space and adjusts the lighting, has a gps system the guest is able to reference to navigate through the vessel, and has personallized features for the rooms of the guest, for instance, setting a time the curtains automatically open and close or what temperature they want their room to be when they arrive to thier rooms.
an additional component of sustainability includes the solar panel cells located on the top deck. these cells seamlessly integrate into the design of the vessle as well as provide clean energy.

solar panel
“Materials scientists have recently been exploring how solar panels could be made to blend in with their surroundings by making them more transparent. If achieved, energy harvesting devices could be discreetly placed on top of windows, display screens, or even human skin — expanding the reach of the technology even further.
By harnessing the unique properties of advanced solid materials, engineers have made progress toward transparent solar panels. But for now, even the latest designs allow less than 70% of incoming light to pass through them — not nearly enough for the devices to blend in with their environments.
The new design: A team of researchers in Japan have now made promising steps toward solving this transparency issue. Led by Toshiaki Kato at Tohoku University, the team’s innovative design works by exploiting complex interactions between ultra-thin materials. “
