The approach I took to laying out the images was by including them in a narrative. The narrative is based loosely on Maurice Sendak’s, Where the Wild Things Are.
The images are mostly those I created for the previous assignments. The main character is Elly, a baby elephant, created with geometric shapes cut out of different coloured papers. She appears throughout the book as she journeys through her dream. Through the course of the maze in the book, which is the “surprise” as the maze is not completely evident until page 7. Here Elly wakes up as she escapes from the maze and is no longer portrayed in geometric shapes.
Along Elly’s journey through the maze, she discovers she is a geometric elephant. The other images are a baby elephant created with bright pastel colours who seems stuck in the maze. The next image is that of a geometric elephant created with gouache paint. Elly follows this image through the edge of the page 3 onto page 4.
