Raised in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge, Scott Jarrard began drawing as a child. His inspiration was just about what you’d expect for a kid raised in the 1980’s - the Sunday Comics, Garfield by Jim Davis and animated Disney movies.

Years later, Scott graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from Brigham Young University and began his professional career at an agency specializing in branded video game properties. Several years later, he joined a design agency and specialized in designing, creating and painting characters for Sony PlayStation games, gamecovers, posters and point of purchase materials.

After 10 years of experience working for many of the largest electronic gaming corporations, Scott set out on his own to create kid-friendly art. Since then, he has designed characters and created fun illustrations that have appeared in books, magazines, toy packaging, posters, and fabric.

Added to his resume are trademarked characters for television and movie style guides. Scott loves to draw and hopes that his art will make people smile.

Scott Jarrard lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, with his wife, Amanda and their three children, Dallin, Tyler, and Sarah.

About Michelle Dorsey from SewMichelle Hello! I’m Michelle Dorsey from SewMichelle. My love affair with sewing began when I was about 26. I had never taken a home economics class in school, let alone tried to sew on a button, but I felt the sewing bug calling my name. I began taking classes at a local quilt shop in my home town of Mesquite, Texas. I was like a sponge, soaking up all tricks of the trade that the ladies at the shop would teach me. If the doors were open, I was there. Soon after, the home embroidery machines hit the market and that is when it all seemed to click for me. I was completely obsessed! I even converted two bedrooms of my home into a sewing studio.

I began selling my creations at local craft venues and taking custom orders. Although I loved sewing for profit (and needed the money to support my obsession), I knew I wanted to pass the love of sewing on to others so I began teaching my own projects at local sewing shops in the Dallas area. I was approached by Pellon to become one of their first project designers. I wrote my first online tutorial, The Spiral Notebook Cover, for their site. The

pattern is still one of the favorite free downloads on Pellon and Craftsy to this day.

With encouragement from my friends and family, I decided to pursue my dream of publishing my sewing patterns. I began with an online Etsy store but quickly realized that wasn’t exactly what I had longed for. I dreamed of walking into an uncharted quilt shop and seeing my patterns on their rack. I am thrilled to say that part of my dream has become a reality. In addition to instant downloadable PDF’s on my website, I now have 16 patterns in countless quilt shops, oodles of online tutorials and numerous embroidery designs under my belt.

My love of sewing and embroidery still drives me to design patterns for every aspect of today’s quilt shop’s customer base. I strive to write patterns that will appeal to the beginner seamstress yet clever enough to entice the more seasoned sewer while catering to the embroidery enthusiast.
