Each September I love to visit a local sunflower farm near my home in Portland, Oregon. The combination of crisp, fall air, tall evergreens and sunflowers as far as the eye can see is so captivating. As I wander the rows of blooms I can watch the bees moving from flower to flower. It’s such a peaceful experience that touches all the senses and helped inspire the Honey Bees and Flowers Please collection. I tried to capture the beauty and synergy that exists between the majestic sunflowers and noble bees and can’t wait to see how sewists and quilters use this collection.

Farm Livin’ emerged from memories of my childhood spent on an old farm. My mother was a seamstress and I spent the days outside, running through the pastures and walking down those long country roads, past the fields of cattle, sheep and the occasional horse. I learned to sew at a young age and loved it, but we didn’t often get novelty fabrics. I wanted to make a set of designs that I might have liked to have seen back then. This collection is an expression of the type of art that I would have loved to have used in my own sewing projects.

Press On in part was inspired during a trip to Hamilton Missouri and a visit with Jenny Doan. I was invited to see her private studio space in the restored 1920 Public Library. Just inside the foyer, shelves of antique irons flank the front entrance which house Jenny’s extensive collection. I was captivated at first sight. One of my original She Who Sews characters of the same name Press On, was the perfect pairing to highlight the charming household collectibles. Scripture inspiration featured throughout is from Phillipians 3:14. Watch for a special quilt by Jenny Doan on the MSQC YouTube channel.

While I’ll admit I feel more at home with a paintbrush in my hand than hiking boots on my feet I do love a beautiful trail through the woods, the sound of a babbling brook and the sunlight peeking through the forest canopy. I’m happy in the moss covered trees near the Oregon Coast or by waterfalls in the gorge. Our friends at Anderson Design Group said, “We’ve heard horror stories about strange creatures that others have seen, heard, (or felt). We’ve uncovered tall tales of unexplainable events, ancient myths, and local stories passed down by Indigenous Peoples, colonial settlers, and park visitors. Many of the legends we’ve come across are based on Native American folklore, and to the best of our abilities, we’ve indicated which tribes were associated with each story, being careful to respect the sacred traditions of Indigenous beliefs. As we continued to dig deeper, we realized that cultures from every continent on the globe have their own rich traditions of mythology that feature bizarre, creepy, and quirky legendary beings.”

Liberty Tree of Life The Liberty Tree of Life collection invites you to discover a world where wisdom, prosperity, balance, and growth coincide. Rooted in the captivating aesthetics of Indian and Jacobean Palamore textiles, the Tree of Life-inspired collection for quilting pays homage to Liberty’s longstanding heritage of voyage and discovery. Introduced to British shoppers by Arthur Liberty following his journey from India in the late 1800’s, this style of design often featured intricate branches with stylised blooms, ornamental leaves, and decorative fruits. Igniting a lasting fascination with the British public, Tree of Life designs invited Liberty’s clientele on a majestic botanical journey. From young sapling oaks and rustling leaves in woodland glades, to cascading branches adorned with fruit and blossoms, this collection is an ode to Liberty’s enduring admiration for these designs. Even the carved wooden animals that have been watching over the Liberty store atrium since 1924 make an appearance, gracefully perched on winding branches or venturing through the landscape.
