Established in 1986, RIM is an architectural design firm providing excellence in comprehensive architecture, planning, interior design, sustainable design, and branding/ graphic design services. Today, RIM is recognized for its diversity in regional design expertise and for successfully designing and managing projects in challenging terrains, remote locations, and extreme conditions. RIM is also known for its extensive portfolio of government defense projects. From training centers to command centers to fitness centers—from enlisted housing to warehouses, airports, and flight simulators, RIM’s portfolio is all inclusive. RIM maintains a staff of approximately 70 professionals strategically located in Anchorage, Alaska; San Francisco and Tustin, California; Hagatna, Guam; and Honolulu, Hawaii. The firm supports clients from pre-design strategy through project implementation and occupancy.

History of Our Federal Work RIM Architects has worked with the Federal Government for more than 30 years. Our first completed project for the Department of Defense (DoD) occurred in 1990 and earned a Merit Award from the U.S. Air Force. Throughout the years, many of our federal projects have been recognized for design excellence as well as our ability to provide solutions to complex problems. For the DoD alone, RIM has received more than 44 design awards. Our project experience varies widely to include auditoriums, aviation, barracks, educational facilities, garages, maintenance facilities, gyms, hangars, hospitals and medical facilities, housing, industrial, office/administration, recreational facilities, and warehouses.

Military Training Centers RIM’s experience includes state-of-the-art classrooms, sensitive compartmented information facilities (SCIF), training centers, tactical operations facilities, and engagement skills centers. For each military project, security is a key consideration, both exterior and interior. Often, computer simulation technology is incorporated to facilitate command battle training, aviation flying, and other purposes.

Militar y Housing RIM’s worldwide military housing portfolio includes family housing, single officer quarters, and multi-unit family housing in Japan, Korea, Hawaii, California, Alaska, Guam, and Australia. For the Navy, we provided architectural services for Bachelor Enlisted Quarters at Pearl Harbor and the Marine Corps Air Station Yuma. In addition to architectural services, RIM has provided construction administration for multi-unit housing projects for the Air Force in Japan and Hawaii as well as LEED consulting services for the Marine Corps Housing Development in Kaneohe, Hawaii.

Maintenance & Storage Military maintenance facilities and equipment storage buildings require quality installation design and construction. These structures can house a multitude of items including cars, trucks, buses, airplanes, supplies, vehicle parts, uniforms, equipment, and more. Healthcare RIM’s healthcare experience encompasses hospitals, medical office buildings, mental health clinics, medical renovations, dental facilities, and urgent care centers. Our federal work includes everything from renovations for the Veterans Administration (VA) Sierra Nevada Health Care System in Reno, Nevada to a new mental health clinic for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Alaska to the Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital, which was for the Bureau of Indian Health Services.

Parks and Recreation Currently, RIM is providing architectural services for the National Park Service and the Department of Fish and Wildlife Services. Our completed projects include the Denali National Park and Preserve (along with two visitor centers and campus facilities) as well as indoor and outdoor recreational areas for various military installations.
