RIMI JANKA P o r t f o l i o
Hi! I’m a student of Sustainable Architecture and Landscape Design in Politecnico di Milano. I’m a son of a mason, and I grain my first experience during the construction of my house in Albany. After a school education as a geometer, I approached the profession of architect through professional apprenticeships and became passionate about it. During my studies I became passionate about the most technical subjects and the use of computers and professional programs. The predisposition to work in groups and the relationships with other people have increased over my studies which allowed me to compare and interact with classmated and professional profiles. I developed a will for the organization, stimulated by the need to develop, plan and implement independently and in collaboration.

The project is located in an abandoned area of Terre Padane consisting of many small warehouses spread over a large area. The new residential neighbourhood is located within this area and keeps its distance from the industrial warehouses through green buffer zones. The neighbourhood consists of a new social housing, a new shopping centre and the positioning of new car parks to give a new life to a purely industrial area.

Two-room apartment with lodge Two-room apartment without lodge
The two-room flats are composed by a living room with an open kitchen, double bedroom and one bathroom. The spaces have been designed in such a way as to have the minimum space available but at the same time living in comfort.
A central stairwell is going vertically through the building and distributes 4 flats per floor.
The social housing is built of six floors of flats, and the ground floor is made of pilotis, so it’s completely walkable. The stairwell is formed by an high glass wall on one side only, while the other side is closed by a wall. The facade is punctuated by regular windows, which have movable shading panels in wood to adjust the light intensity.

The plot is located in the interstitial spaces between the road San Martino terme and the bend in the Trebbia river. This strip of land is occupied by the ruins of the old Bobbio baths and the now abandoned building site of what should have become the new baths. the new project proposal concerns the reorganisation of the existing baths and the creation of new spaces for relaxation and contemplation for guests.
Volume plan
Expansion Spa and gym area
Ex novo Spa area and restaurant
Integration Spa and patients’ rooms
The idea of the project is developed starting from the rotation and duplication of the guidelines of the existing structural framework. The three buildings have been designed with a share solution of pure forms which are articulated in the internal partitions and communicate through intersecting walkways.

First floor underground plan
It was decided to distribute the thermal water and refreshment areas below ground level close to the banks of the Trebbia. With this solution the large spaces needed would not impact on the pre-intervention landscape. The underground part is positioned in such a way as to follow the steep terrain that joins the mountain to the river bed.

1| The new spa consists of colonnades and structures which, given their “pure” forms, give them an important character which it was decided to maintain. The spaces of the gyms that are being built incorporate the pre-existing structure with solutions of refined visual lightness so as not to disfigure its development.
2| The old spa retains its existing structiure but is adapted to accommodate the rooms for the patients.

Parco do Carmo nature reserve is an important resource for the local population as it contains a natural reserve of tree species. The intervention concerns the creation of an important place for community recreation, a path with stations in some of the attractions of the park, including a sports centre, swimming pools and an arena. A green bridge is designed to allow the direct connection from the urban area.
Masterplan
The cycle/pedestrian route within the park is dictated by the orography of the site and passes in between wooded areas and orchards, through different places of recreation for the population, and rest areas.

1. Benches to resting along the main gravel route.
2. Rest area with fountain for drinking water.

3. Bike sharing spot
The subdivision of the different agricultural crops is given by the extension of certain infrastructure routes of the urban centre. Within these agricultural fields, another regular grid marks the regular arrangement of fruit trees
The work in the orchards can improve relationship between people and social unions. The sale of zero-km products can enter an economic circle and provide incomes to families.

The project intensifies the livability of the area, whilst it deals with the immediate context, bridging local needs with the desire to magnetize attention, attractive either for local people or visitors. With a vineyard background, the proposal develops, along the topography, bonding functions around the wine’s process and relating different components into a unique masterplan which persues to create a sensorial procession across the site.
The wine-production building is placed in the heart of the site, against the left-side hill over the busiest confluence of the 4-meters terracements as a strategical point for the grapes collection.
A sharp path is drawn from the street - Rua do Progresso towards the riverbank to connect the magnet building from North and South.
In this building the process of wine is carried out. Then the tasting-bar, restaurant, wine shop, the learning and trading center are complementary functions added to the experience of wine.
PRODUCTION BUILDING This building is the heart of the project: the rectangular shape tries to establish a humanistic estatement over the curvilinear landscape of vineyards. While the volume is cut by a diagonal void that plays with the main axis system, it provides natural light to the interior. Inside, each function is organized compelling the required necessities of each part of the process. The rooftop serves as a pure miradouro that embrace workers to come and take a breath while enjoying the view.

LEARNING|TRADE CENTER Two main volumes have been developed around the water element; one of these buildings is buried, one raised, hosting the welcoming functions of learning and trade center, auditorium, exposition hall, shops and cafeteria, interacting with each other, hiding in the middle the beginning of the processional staircase that leads towards the next episode of our journey.

COMMERCIAL-CENTRE AREA At the end of our wine course, it’s placed a strong but poetic function. Therefore, the restaurant turned out to be ideal to be an attractive spot, whereas a couple of shops would complement the commercial character. The volume is designed by tracing a softly-conic rectangle, and interstecting the path with a sharp circular void in the top that would create the sacred atmosphere we would like to accomplish.

HOUSES The houses designed respond to the existing residential system that connotates the neighborhood on the border: a sequence of white volumes has been proposed, facing the vineyard with a double height glass facade.
the housing block responds to the existing buildings on the northern side by respecting their scale and completing their outline, highlighting a border that protects the project area characterized by the wineyards.

The intervention concerns the redevelopment of a railway area close to the city centre by means of a new reconnection and the construction of new buildings that can bring new life to this area. The construction of a social housing takes place on top of an existing platform for the storage of containers and an existing building used for railway logistics is transformed into a multifunctional building for the community. The new buildings are built with a sustainable materials for the for energy efficiency and are surrounded by greenery and are separated from the railway by a green buffer zone.
New connection between the two sides of the railway line and a new axis from the city centre in order to create continuity in the urban tissue.
The new intervention is placed in between an existing building context
Emphasize the continuity of the site through the creation of a green corridor.
Main road crossing along the site intervention and doesn’t enter inside it.
In addition to the very low vegetation, the green spaces between the buildings also have medium-sized trees, which allow shade to the buil-dings without invading the facade, and along the main pedestrian street a particular central row of cherry trees creates a pleasant shadefor passers-by as well as creating a more cheerful and colorful atmosphere.
Starting from a parallelepiped having the shape of the site and facing he urban context.
Main axis passing in the middle of the block
Secondary axis creating the circulation through the buildings and with the context.
Opening of the buildings in order to create inner courts.
Design of a boulevard providing a meeting point for the population living within the surrounding buildings and connecting the existing residential areas, at the centre of which the project insinuates itself.

Cantine Romagnoli is an old winery and the owner of a large piece of land characterised by vineyards and other landscape elements. The concept behind the project is characterised by the desire to show those areas of this specific landscape that are located between the vineyards, and which are often not considered. The project wants to emphasise the characteristics and sensations that belong to the areas of the lake, the forest, the void, the interruptions, and the viewpoint. Thus, areas are created to serve and entertain visitors, and people who usually walk through the vineyards.
