C A N C E L L AT I O N / R E F U N D If you wish to cancel a class registration, we must have written notification. We are unable to accept cancellations by phone. You may email your request to eac@ringling.edu or send via U.S. Postal Service. We must receive your cancellation request no fewer than 5 business days before the start of class. A $25 administration fee will be assessed and deducted from your tuition refund. The effective date of cancellation will be upon receipt of your written notification.

HAND BUILDING AND WHEEL THROWING: BEGINNER - INTERMEDIATE Nichole Moranda TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS: 10-11:30 AM OR 1-2:30 PM* (10-CLASS SERIES) September 29; October 1, 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, 29 November 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 19, 24; December 1, 3, 8 *Due to restrictions on the number of people in the studio and to accommodate social distancing – class days/times cannot be changed or substituted.

TUITION: $250 • MEMBER: $225 Learn hand building and wheel throwing techniques while creating a variety of ceramic objects. Hand building instruction will focus on slab and coil techniques. Note: Price includes up to 25 pounds of clay (for in-class project use only), glazes, and firing. Additional clay may be purchased from EAC. Students must adhere to EAC’s Pottery Studio Policies and Procedures.

In order to ensure adherence of Ceramics Studio Policies and Procedures, Ceramics Open Studio is open to students who are presently taking ceramics class(es) and/or those who have successfully passed the Ceramics Studio Authorization course at EAC. Ceramics Open Studio will only be available if the Ceramics classes are running.

Open Studio Policies: Price includes clay for in-studio project use only (up to 25 pounds in a single month), additional clay may be purchased from EAC, if necessary. Fees also include glazes, firings, and the use of studio equipment and tools. EAC Ceramics instructors reserve the right to use the studio as needed and can cancel any Open Studio session. Enrolled Students (not Studio Authorized Artists) new to EAC are required to get authorization from instructors to participate in EAC Open Studio. EAC Director reserves the right to revoke access to Ceramics Open Studio at any time without a refund. 5

URBAN SKETCHING | ART JOURNAL Jenni Bateman WEDNESDAYS: 1-3 PM (4-CLASS SERIES) September 30; October 7, 14, 21 October 28; November 4, 11, 18 November 25; December 2, 9, 16

TUITION: $125 • MEMBER: $100 Experiment through limitation and capture simple gesture with loose pen and ink and watercolor washes. This course is designed to build confidence as you simplify shapes, learn how to use watercolor glazes (washes), and finish with a working knowledge and vocabulary of the watercolorist. What could be more rewarding than to develop your sketches into a set of greeting cards perfect for sending or to frame! Watercolor and basic drawing experience beneficial but not required.

REQUIRED MATERIALS LIST

• Note: Quality watercolor paper is a must. This course is designed around the use of a wirebound watercolor sketchbook • A couple of good watercolor brushes are also important, as they will hold a lot of pigment/water and can stand many years of use.

• Best to use tube watercolor paints, but a good PRANG watercolor set is acceptable. NEEDLE FELTED SCULPTURE Jenni Bateman THURSDAYS: 1-3 PM (4-CLASS SERIES) October 1, 8, 15, 22 October 29; November 5, 12, 19

TUITION: $125 • MEMBER: $100 Have some fun learning to transform your two-dimensional sketch into a fuzzy, felted sculpture. Students will sketch an initial concept for reference and learn the process of felting while building the elements of their personal sculpture. Each element of the sculpture is felted or “built,” and elements and embellishments are added to create your unique masterpiece. No sewing, only felting.

INTRODUCTION TO ACRYLIC PAINTING Johan Bjurman TUESDAYS: 10 AM-12 PM (4-CLASS SERIES) September 29; October 6, 13, 20 October 27; November 3, 10, 17 November 24; December 1, 8, 15

TUITION: $125 • MEMBER: $100 Learn to paint in acrylic in a realistic style. Whether you are new to painting or want to refine your skills to develop a sharper painting style, this class will teach you the basic techniques. This class will cover still life, landscapes, primary color painting exercises, and perspective painting. Through teacher demonstrations, one-on-one instruction, and class participation, students will be able to enhance their creativity and abilities. The class begins with still life objects and concludes with painting from photo references. Basic forms are reviewed, color matching is described, and basic drawing principles are stressed.

REQUIRED MATERIALS LIST

Emphasis will be on structure, composition, color, and value, as well as on the creative journey of personal expression. Students are encouraged to use their own references for inspiration.

TUITION: $125 • MEMBER: $100 Following McClellan’s Drawing Workbook approach, this drawing class will teach the fundamentals and help artists in any 2D medium develop their skills and abilities to create successful artworks. Classes also examine ways to work through arising challenges during the creation of your personal masterpieces.

TUITION: $125 • MEMBER: $100 This four-week course will introduce you to the unique world of scratchboarding. You will be introduced to the essential techniques needed while using a variety of different tools to bring your image to life. Your photo references can be of any subject that you choose; a favorite animal, person, or place.

TUITION: $50 (MATERIALS INCLUDED) Join the fun and explore a new medium/technique every week. Students will create one-of-a-kind works of art in each class. Projects include clay tree faces, found object sculptures, printmaking, textile dying, painting, and much more.

REQUIRED MATERIALS LIST Classes are taught in sessions of 4 weeks. Art materials are included in the price and can be picked up at EAC at a designated date and time once you have registered. Some projects are enhanced by materials that are not provided, such as scrap paper, pencils, crayons, and bottle caps. Descriptions for each project in the 4-week sessions are available within that session as a PDF on Lumens.

A B O U T O U R I N S T R U C TO R S

Jenni Bateman is a dynamic and engaging leader with 2+ decades proven experience as an arts educator, fierce art-maker, innovative communications specialist, and civic engagement-builder with a cohesive yet diverse design background in non-profits, the arts, small business, community-based recreation, and education. Johan Bjurman is classically trained in several painting disciplines. He established Bjurman Studio specializing in commercial artwork, including several significant and nationally recognizable projects, including designing and painting 7 trompe l’oeil lunettes of Mozart’s operas which are installed at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. Now retired, Johan spends his time in Rhode Island and Florida where he practices plein air landscape painting and exhibits his work widely. Maggie McClellan is an accomplished painter who exhibits her work nationally and abroad. She is a signature member of the Florida Watercolor Society, Gold Coast Watercolor Society, and the Miami Watercolor Society. Maggie has authored successful teaching programs across the United States, in the Caribbean, and abroad. She is the author of the popular book, The Artist’s Express – Secrets of the Obedient Brush.

Nichole Moranda is an artist and native Floridian who studied at the Florida School of the Arts, MCC, Bradenton, and USF Tampa, where she received her BFA in ceramics. Nichole has a focus in ceramic hand building with a background in wheel throwing. Her ceramic work has been displayed as installations, functional pieces, and as jewelry pendants. Nichole currently has a sculpture installation, Catch of the Day, in the Englewood ArtScape Sculpture Garden. Sheryl Unwin attended the Art Institute of Boston. After years of developing her skills, she chose to share her knowledge with other artists. In 2005 she decided to enjoy the beauty of Florida living, culture, wildlife, and fabulous scenery that only the Gulf Coast of Florida can give. Her passion is to draw from people, the largest of wildlife creatures, and the smallest of domestic pets.
