Progress as the parameter I step on using my time and I don’t want to stay put looking at the clock’s hand keep spinning around. Spending time in a room where I shout through my works. Because I know that I will never be able to stop the time. That’s the language of the poets, through crafted words. My language is visual. Scratch is my particle. In visual I’m talking. Every scratch that connected is the picture of my whole imagination in a form.

Progress becomes the parameter for someone or some people. But for some person or people, being able to keep standing is already a relief.

Still fresh in my mind, when I still in elementary school, I just remember there are only 9 planets in universe. Now? That book already thickened by information of knowledge that has been discovered. Through it all, the more I know that He always show His Greatness by opening every knowledge of universe one by one. Play along with reality that I see. Everyday, the shiny sun keeps greeting my skin. The water is dry. Dehydration is the word that already familiar for the people in my country. Looking in the night, the stars shower around me. I try to translate in my language. There’s something meaningful that I want to tell. Accept my offering.

“GLOSSYEFFECT In making an artwork with vector, sometime it gets difficult to make a natural, realistic, and smooth component. One of it is about lighting. Next we can see about how to make light effect / glossy effect with Adobe Illustrator in a view easy step.

1

After that, put the reflection on the logo / objects that we want. If you feel not smooth enough, then adjust again just like the previous step.

Reflection shape

Now we will give light effect to this logo. First we have to prepare a shape (for the light reflection) that we want. The shape can be anything, just according to your need.

Human efforts to limit carbon dioxide emissions aren’t enough to keep Earth from warming more than 2 degrees Celsius.

To prevent the loss of Arctic ice, by late in this century we’ll have to not only shut down emissions, but find a way to clean up massive amounts of carbon dioxide that we’ve already put in the atmosphere.

CONTRIBUTOR Since when started to like vector illustration? Since I realize my hand drawing sketch are really awful, but I really like to draw. And in that point I tried vector illustration then loving it until now. Have you tried other illustration genre, like hand drawing, painting, etc? Yup, doodle hand drawing some monsters and other imaginative things, oh and now I also trying water paint. It’s fun! Why you like vector illustration? Vector Illustration (or perhaps all illustration) can be created by simple shape, like to make a bicycle; just enough with two circles then connect it with one rectangle and add some other simple shapes and it’s done :)

Why you choose this occupation? Have you worked under a company or In-house? Become freelancer are really fun, because I can manage all my works by myself, when I’m already tired to draw I can take a 15 minutes nap and then wake up and start to draw again, where I can’t do such thing like that in an office right? I’ve worked in a garment company to draw illustration for the shirts, working as photo editor, and last; the one that I like is, Illustrator in Marketeers Magazine for almost 4 years, I admit that the last job that make me like now.

Now where are you working? What position? I’m a happy illustrator freelance hehe ... CONTENTS

CONTRIBUTOR What’s the different between working regularly in a company and freelance? When working regularly you have to follow all the rules in the company hahahaha, meanwhile freelancer only come to the company when necessary.

What is the most memorable vector illustration project to you? All illustration projects are memorable, I really enjoy every steps. Oh, the most memorable and challenging is an illustration project that asked me to draw unlike my style.

What is that (memorable) project? Is it for professional work, or idealist? That project is for MORE Magazine illustration in its fashion rubric.

Who is your idol that influenced you in making art? The first that I want to mention is surely Ghibli Studio hehe, and then Tokidoki, Brian Kesinger, and Muti Studio.

Is there any dream project that you haven’t achieved yet? Ghibli Studio asking me to drawing for their next animation hahahaha

What is good and bad illustration according to you?

Please give one closing statement as nana.

A good illustration is original from brainstorming process until the final. The bad one is obviously not original or copying others hehe.

Appreciate every work and stop to look lowly at every picture that you see, no matter how it looks trust me that behind it there is process that isn’t easy as you imagine. CONTENTS

Drawing is one part of designing. We often trap in a mainstream way. However “drawing” itself have a lot of ways, and of them is with using basic shapes that already available. This time we will learn together with using triangle shape.

T I P S :

The Key for it can be a beautiful art is: form by small triangles, and triangles that close bonded without room in between.

PEN TOOL DIRECT SELECTION TOOL PICKING TOOL

Pick a picture then Place it to Adobe Illustrator (doesn’t need a high resolution picture), lock the layer to make the job easier.

Create a new layer, zoom in, and then use Picking tool to pick the color in certain part. After that, use Pen tool to create the triangle. Do this continuously until the entire object is covered.

3 After object in the picture already covered with triangle, just turn off the visibility of the first layer, and we’re done. Feel free to add more variation according to your creativity.

CONTENTS

If there are some part that not close enough (usually look like lines), just use Direct Selection Tool, and move one of the triangle’s corner, until it cover the part with “hole”.

Photography Knowledge

Introjection Writer. Rio Dwisandy

Two edition before, we already have an article that titled “Touch The Feeling”, and now I will talk about the second point from the basic of how a photographer can present an “Art”. If we read the title of this article (Introjection), we can split it into “Intro” (The beginning) and “Jection” (Injection, or input). From the etymology, we could understand that photographer must know everything that will be done to the object(s) before capturing the picture. In one of John Sexton’s book that titled “Listen to the Tree”, he explained how photographer approaching the objects. Introjection is different with projection. Watch and listen, let the object(s) look and speak to you to conceal its presence and essence. The difference, projection comes from inside the photographer as the main point. But for Introjection, the photographer “follows” and capture the essence from the object(s) around, or we can say that the main factor is from the object(s) itself and not from the photographer. Don’t think that in this part the object(s) become “The Dictator” or getting the idea that saying that “The Master” of people that have this idea is material. But the reality is God the Creator makes His work so that human can learn to speak through the work of their hand.

In this part it’s indeed very difficult, because acquired hearing, patience and perseverance to understand the object(s). So the photographer can get or produce an “Art” that the same with what he/she get from the object(s). It’s not weird if we see someone stick his/her face to the camera and spent a long time to see through the viewfinder, just to capture 1 frame of an object. Or capture 1 object with hundreds of frame to get the best photo. In his unpublished writing (Visualization Manual, 1975), John Sexton train himself by sitting down calmly in the front of the object, closing his eyes, listening and let the object(s) speak to him. In simpler language, we try to “record” what’s good or appropriate from the object(s). I’ve face with many photographer and future-photographer or people with hobby in photography. It’s very difficult to discuss this thing, that’s why I usually only talk about something “light” when I meet my friends (future-photographer, photographer, and hobbyist). And it’s very rare to meet a person that so deeply interested in photography. However, through this article I hope many friends can get additional knowledge. So they can use it as the basic to moving forward in photography. Keep up the work. And keep moving forward for Indonesian Photography.

How many times you have a photo session with models? It’s my first time What have you learned from this photo session? I’ve learn that complete preparation from the tools, knowing the location, property of the model, and also knowledge about the material and theme are necessary. What I mean about material knowledge is understanding and knows a lot about the back-story of the theme, from the history, feeling, and the message that wanted to be conveyed from every pose shown. What do you want to convey through these photos? I want to give natural impression from the model that combine with the environment and also the beauty from each model. How long have you touch and own a camera? First time I try a DSLR Camera in the mid 2012, and I started to own one in the end of 2012. CONTENTS

When learning, what kind of learning system that you’ve got? Learning system that I’ve got is more centered to approaching and digging the basics of photography, also balanced of theory and practice. In the practice we continuously repeat view things to remember and better understanding to every material. There is also homework to train individual skill in experimenting. And the most interesting part for me is, in this system we must apply our imagination in the practice to create a piece of Art that unique, original, and meaningful. The material is also systematically taught without missing anything, that’s why it’s effective and efficient to understand in stages. The teacher also has all knowledge about photography and art that can applied so well. More over the teaching skill that make it is easy to comprehend and also correcting with honesty - that’s for me - are very important to upgrade my photography skill.

The knowledge about rhythm in photography is really helping me to produce a beautiful, artistic, and meaningful photo. Other upgrade is in photo editing. Even though I still haven’t completely understood about Photoshop, but I’m able to edit photo in a simple way with satisfying result. Other example, technically my photos are still got corrected many times, and every time we repeat over again the result become better. How the teacher’s character could affect your learning process? The effects of teacher’s character are very crucial and also in it about how to teach the material, vision, and honesty in correcting every material upgrade that have been given to me.
