thousands of people cross daily the Argentinean airports of Buenos Aires, Rosário, Córdoba, and Mendoza, as well as those in Montevidéu and Asunción. We are inviting them and the hundreds of thousands of viewers who watch sports and news channels in the whole world to the next attraction Brazil has to offer to tourists from across the globe: our summer. This invitation is part of Embratur's strategy to maintain the touristic flow in our country and, beyond that, to leverage even more the arrival of more and more people from different corners of the world. In 2016, we broke the record of foreign visitors. The 6.6 million international tourists who have been to Brazil, mostly attracted by Rio's Olympics and Paralympics Games, were delighted with what they saw. In a survey made by the Ministry of Tourism with international visitors, over 87% said that they would like to come back to Brazil. Are these numbers restrained when compared to the potential of the nation? Yes, they are. Especially if we consider that the major global touristic destinations allure thousands of millions of people and small countries from South America receive almost as many tourists as Brazil. The challenge is up: we have to transform Brazil from a country with a high potential to a nation of touristic eminence once and for all. We have already been tested and approved countless times in the last ten years since the Pan-American Games in 2007. Now it is time to work hard and with focus. We have to ensure that every summer season, every winter season, every period of great festivities — like New-year at the beaches, June parties in the Northeast, and October parties in the South — are treated like a new event capable of captivating more and more people, in this great race among countries to draw international tourists. That is why Embratur believes in this campaign. Promoting the summer, our next event, is essential. And during the summer, of course, the "crown jewel" is our Carnival. Both Embratur and the Ministry of Tourism are observant and developing strategies to support the Carnival, our great popular festivity. Rio de Janeiro knows how to welcome tourists during all main events. Its peak was in the Olympics when the same research from the Ministry concluded that over 98% of the visitors were charmed by the hospitality of the wonderful city inhabitants. The unique celebration of lights, colors, magic, music, popular culture, and happiness promises to be even more gorgeous on the first post-Olympic Carnival in Rio de Janeiro. Therefore we can shout proudly to the four corners of the world: come and see the most beautiful popular festivity on Earth. Our people will be here, with open arms, ready to welcome you.

the year, in which the schools create real theatrical shows. It is the art of Brazilian people: authentic, creative and glamorous. In two days of shows, twelve associations dispute the title of Rio's Carnival Champion. Rio Samba e Carnaval has been connected to this history for years and has been presenting the parades' visual wealthiness on its annual magazine since 1972. The first international edition offers a high-quality visual production and brand-new content. It is a great innovation and invaluable contribution to the growth of our Carnival, our parade and our Carnival history.

That's the spirit that Paraíso do Tuiuti will consolidate to try to continue on the Special Group. The school, champion of the second division of last year's Rio Carnival, will pay tribute to modernist artists, in their many manifestations. From painting, Tarsila do Amaral and her acclaimed canvas Abaporu. From music, Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil's Tropicalismo.

this year, singing about the life of the Brazilian star Ivete Sangalo, one of the greatest names in Brazilian popular music. But the career of the Muse from Bahia will not be their only topic. They will go back in time, to the girl's childhood in the margins of São Francisco River, in the backcountry. Further on, they will also get to Salvador and Pelourinho's ramps. They will even present the Carnival from Bahia in the sambadrome. And, from her group Banda Eva to her solo career, they will show how the singer has become one of the hottest artists of the country. In the end, Ivete will meet the Duque de Caxias community, where the samba school is located.

beauties of Xingu, one of the biggest Indian parks in Brazil. One of the leading champions of the Carnival, Imperatriz will remember the legacy of pioneer Villas-Bôas brothers creating the sanctuary that has been protecting 27 thousand square kilometers of land in Mato Grosso state since 1961, in a transition between the Central Plateau and the Brazilian Amazon rainforest. The school promises a parade of celebrations that will also alert against the threats faced by the Indians in the region, like wood merchants and the environmental damage caused by Belo Monte Hydroelectric Power Station.

a new kizomba (the school theme champion in 1988), but an international one: that is the

promise Vila Isabel has made this year. The association, famous for appraising the black culture in their parades, will now take to the sambadrome black music from the Americas. There will be hits from the United States, like disco music, blues and dancers dressed as Tina Turner and James Brown. From the Latin countries, there will be rhythms like mambo and rumba. But there will also be ancient Brazilian references, like calundus, afoxés, and congadas, each of them represented in different sections. In the end, local sounds from Rio will be presented, like chorinho and samba, of course!

most popular schools in the country creates its own version of hell, paradise and purgatory, described in the epic poem. In the very beginning, the reddish tones are going to take over to represent the underworld boat, on the first float. But there is nothing dark. Everything suits the carnival and will get to the Earth and the skies. Speaking of which, during this game, the revelry will be divine, full of harlequins, columbines, and pierrots. A space parade will conquer the avenue to get to a creation temple in the end, but it will be African, to pay tribute to the former carnival artist of the school Fernando Pamplona.

Iracema, by José de Alencar, one of the most famous Brazilian writers. The romance between an Indian and a Portuguese colonist, as the symbol of miscegenation in Brazil, promises to exhilarate the avenue. On the first float, the beautiful Iracema appears with majesty. Then, throughout the parade, she will fall in love with Martin, a white man with blue eyes. after almost two decades, União da Ilha will bring an African theme to Sapucaí again. They will take to the Avenue the Bantus from Angola, one of the main ethnolinguistic groups that formed the Brazilian people. The school will reveal the Inquices, African deities that are not well known in Brazil, even though some of them are gathered and worshiped by the Candomblé religion in the country. They will be presented by the school beginning with the figure of Kitembo, master of time. From there on, the school will travel through the traditions of these cultures, showing their beliefs about the world creation, the harvest and the relations of time with the universe.

any resemblance to reality is purely coincidental. By the way, São Clemente warns that

their theme name is not supposed to offend anyone: Onisuáquimalipanse (a reference to the French Honi soit qui mal y pense, "shamed be he who thinks evil of it"). The school, which has always been famous for their irreverent and critical themes, will continue to follow its signature this year. They will tell the story of a ministry who, on a fantastic past, built a luxurious palace that he could not afford with his earnings. Then the King, who was furious with the situation, ordered the construction of a bigger palace surrounded by gardens, which he called Versailles. It was full of wealth, ostentation, feasts and wastefulness. As the association says jokingly, that is not so different from today.

Their proposal is to present in the parade characters like sultans, represented on a float, and the famous Moroccan markets, which populate the imaginary about the African country. In this Carnival with 1001 nights, there is one curiosity: both the samba school and the country have a star as a symbol on their flags. A sign of luck, maybe?

many beauties and amazing places that sometimes it seems almost impossible to know each of them thoroughly. But it is worth trying anyway. Each country has its uniquenesses, which can be seen in the architecture that shapes its cities, or in natural landscapes that surround their main destinations, or even when those two factors are combined. The city of Rio de Janeiro has the sea, the Maracanã Stadium late in the afternoon on a sunny Sunday, Mauá Square with its magnificent museums and charming streets, Copacabana, Santa Tereza. All of those places can confirm that the city is elegant and sophisticated. The city is blessed with one of the most magnificent landscapes in the world, and therefore many people say that it is naturally the most beautiful city. Even if it didn't have any buildings or inhabitants, anyone on the top of the Sugarloaf Mountain or the Corcovado would say that it is a fantastic city. Tropical luxury and a lot of green spaces blend with the blue sea and the whiteness of the beaches, proving that Rio is the Wonderful City.

Considered the biggest open air opera, the parade brings spectacular creations that confirm that the Brazilian art is unique and authentic every year. The Wonderful City has already been the theme of prose and verses, it has been the scenery of movies and soap operas, and there is always something to be seen and revisited during any time of the year. The city welcomed the World Cup matches in 2014, the Olympics in 2016 and therefore has been renewed

and improved its hotel chain, gastronomy and has paid particular attention to the cultural attractions offered. Among the most famous beaches are Leblon, Ipanema, and Copacabana, which also offer promenades for walks, kiosks, surf schools and outdoor gyms, besides the sea and the sand. Rio de Janeiro isn't only a touristic destination, but an experience of distinction, culture, art, and entertainment. All the people who have visited the city have come to a unanimous conclusion: Rio is the fairest of them all.
