AURORA

Welcome to Aurora Spa!

– an experience for all your senses! The spa ritual Stävan is based on traditional Swedish, Sami and Torne Valley Finnish medicinal traditions. You apply the treatments yourself at your own pace. You are responsible for yourself when visiting the spa, so please take good care by drinking plenty of water and taking it easy when relaxing in the pool and sauna.

STONES Your spa adventure actually begins as soon as you pass by the stones in the entryway. Ancient folklore says that you could leave your daily worries to the stone people. Who knows? Perhaps they live among our stones and can take care of something for you.

CHANGING ROOM Wash your body and hair, you will find the soap and shampoo by the showers. Use the washcloth from your sauna bucket and wash using circular motions towards your heart. Remember that this is your time, do everything at your own pace.

MOUNTAIN STREAM After having changed into your swimsuit, step out into the m ountain stream. Let the fresh, clear water cool your feet as mountain trekkers have done since times immemorial.

AROMA SAUNA WITH PINE OIL Pour water over the pine oil-saturated sauna stones, sit or lie down and let you skin absorb the steam. According to ancient folk m edicine, pine oil is considered to be very beneficial for the lungs, airways as well as blood circulation.

COFFEE MASK Have a seat on the magnetite bench and massage your hands and face with the mask, avoiding your eyes and mouth. Let sit for 10 minutes. The coffee in the mask is said to have an astringent effect on the skin while the cocoa provides antioxidants and has a rejuvenating effect. Rinse off in the Torne Valley shower.

TORNE VALLEY SHOWER Fill the sink with temperate water. Use the ladle to wash off the coffee mask; avoid using soap for the best effect. Finish off with a brisk shower. Stand under the large wooden bucket and pull the rope. A sudden rush of ice-cold water is exhilarating and also said to stimulate growth hormones that may be rejuvenating. This Torne Valley shower is a deeply-rooted tradition in the Torne Valley sauna culture.

MINERAL SAUNA AND GABBRO STONES The alkaline and calcium-rich gabbro stones are perfect for a m ineral bath in the sauna. The steam that is generated when you douse the stones with water contains minerals that strengthen the lungs and blood when breathed in. It is also considered to alleviate eczema and other skin conditions when absorbed by the skin.

STEAMBATH WITH BIRCH SCENT In the steam bath you are surrounded by beautiful mosaics and the scent of fresh birch. The heat increases the immune system, strengthens your heart, helps the body to detox and the steam cleans your skin in depth. Birchoil has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects and opens up your airways while you are pleasantly relaxed.

FOOTBATH WITH JUNIPER BERRIES AND PELLETS Pour the juniper salt (saving a little) and pellets into the hot water of the footbath bucket. Massage your soles on the pellets. Use the saved portion of the salt as a foot scrub, working away on any hard patches. Wintertime you can switch a few times between the bucket’s hot water and a knee-high walk outside in the snow. This is believed to balance blood pressure, is very refreshing and a great way to boost energy levels.

RELAX Settle down and let your gaze wander over the landscape outside. Take the opportunity to replenish yourself with water, rehydrating from the inside. You can also relax in our tranquil oasis Relax room. The rocking chair brings your body to a rhythm of calm and serenity. This is what many of those living in the Torne Valley still do to give body and soul a moment of rest.

MASSAGE HOOK AND MEDITATION STOOL As you sit in the relax area you can stimulate your muscles by massaging yourself with an acupressure hook. Or why not settle down on one of the meditation stools, relax and focus on your breathing and posture. A still interlude in the here and now.

THE POOLS Enjoy the play of colour in the indoor pool that follows the soft shifting dance of the northern lights. Bundle up in the bathrobe and wander out and fill your lungs with crisp, clean air. Lean back in the warm water of the outdoor pool and gaze out into the endless sky above. If it is dark and you are lucky you will see the northern lights lighting up the sky.

BIRCH LEAF SCRUB Experience the fresh fragrance of tender spring leaves and capture the energy of summer. Once in the changing room shower alcove, take time to massage your entire body with the scrub using circular motions towards your heart. Use the washcloth provided in your sauna bucket. Avoid scrubbing the delicate skin on your face. Rinse off the scrub in the shower.

BODY OIL After showering, gently rub the body oil onto moist skin, you can also alleviate dry hair by applying a little oil to dry ends. Leave your sauna bucket, bathrobe and towel in the changing room. If you have any of the products left, you are welcome to bring them home with you. We hope you have had a memorable experience and leave us filled with a sense of harmony, strength and energy!
