Art Exhibits | All are presented in C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts. Caestecker Fine Arts Series: “Celestial Bodies,” by James Thompson ’73 | Sept. 8-Oct. 13, 2017 | Caestecker Gallery Ripon College alumnus James Thompson is an inter-media creative practitioner known as one of the most innovative and intriguing artists in the Pacific Northwest. This exhibit consists of kiln-formed glass inspired by the solar system and is supported by the Caestecker Endowment. Thompson is a professor of art and curator at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. Friends of the Arts Reception: Friday, Sept. 8, 6-7 p.m. Artist’s talk at 7 p.m. “Built-In Closet,” by Gyan Shrosbree. | Nov. 3-Dec. 8, 2017 | Caestecker Gallery This abstract artist creates colorful paintings and assemblages from paint, tape, fiber and other materials. She is an assistant professor of art in the Department of Fine Arts at Maharishi University, Fairfield, Iowa. Shrosbree will give an artist talk 7 p.m. Nov. 3 as part of an opening for the exhibit. “Art and Mass Production: From Ansel Adams to Andy Warhol” | Jan. 26-March 9, 2018 | Caestecker Gallery Artists use mass production to disseminate their work and use the concept of mass production as the subject of their work. Included will be examples of work by well-known artists and interpretive material written by Ripon College students. Assistant Professor Travis Nygard and students curated the exhibit. Nygard will talk at the opening reception at 7 p.m. Jan. 26. Art by Pete Railand and Jenna Valoe. | March 29-May 4, 2018 | Caestecker Gallery This collaboration between Pete Railand (formerly Pete Yahnke) and Jenna Valoe includes works inspired by 19th-century union banners, suffragist banners and modern-day activist banners. Railand is a printmaker, and Valoe is a self-taught textile artist. The artists will speak during an opening reception at 7 p.m. March 29. Art exhibit by Senior Studio Art Majors | April 27-May 13, 2018 | Lobby This is the culmination of students’ studies at Ripon College. Each artist will have produced a cohesive body of work using the media and subject matter of their choice. An art opening will take place at 7 p.m. April 27. Friends of the Arts Reception with Jazz Ensemble performance: Friday, April 27, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Parents and families also invited.
