Friday, Sept. 7, 2018: Mark Davis Quartet, Chamber Music & Jazz at Ripon Series Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018: “Yo Soy la Tradición” with Miguel Zenón and Spektral Quartet, Chamber Music & Jazz at Ripon Series

Art Exhibits | All are presented in C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts. Caestecker Fine Arts Series: Drawings by Lois Peterson | Sept. 14-Oct. 19, 2018 | Caestecker Gallery Drawings by Lois Peterson are inspired by minimal settings. She often makes images that are simple and subtle, referencing the Dakotas, South Africa and the Arctic. Peterson was raised on a dairy farm in the driftless area of Wisconsin. Friends of the Arts reception from 6-7 p.m., artist’s talk at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 14. Out of the Attic and into the Gallery: Art from Local Collections | Nov. 9-Dec. 14, 2018 | Caestecker Gallery Artworks from private collections in the Ripon region will range from the excellent to the eccentric, and the show is sure to be eclectic. Opening reception and gallery talk at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9.

Music and Art | Feb 1-March 8, 2019 | Caestecker Gallery This exhibit will focus on connections between music and the visual arts, curated by Ripon College students and Professor of Music Sarah Kraaz. Opening reception at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1. Ceramics by Sarah Gross | April 5-May 3, 2019 | Caestecker Gallery Sarah Gross creates beautiful ceramic sculpture informed by screens from Islamic culture and the female human body. Her work is notable for pushing the material of clay to its limits. Opening reception and artist talk at 7 p.m. Friday, April 5. Senior Art Exhibit | May 3-19, 2019 | Lobby of Rodman Center Art and posters by seniors majoring in studio art and art history will be presented. This exhibition is a culmination of the students’ studies at Ripon College, and student will have produced a cohesive body of work or research project of their choice. Friends of the Arts reception 6:30-7:30 p.m., Friday, May 3. Parents and families of seniors also invited. “Midwest Paint Group Responds to Ripon’s Van Dyck Paintings” | June 24-Sept. 6, 2019 | Lobby of Rodman Center Professional artists working in the Midwest have reinterpreted paintings by Anthony Van Dyck that are owned by Ripon College. Closing reception at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6.

“Silent Sky” by Lauren Gunderson | Oct. 10-13, 2018 | 7:30 p.m. | Benstead Theatre A beautifully entertaining story of a brilliant woman claiming her place among astronomy’s stars, told by America’s most-produced playwright.

“Paragon Springs” by Steven Dietz | Nov. 28- Dec 1, 2018 | 7:30 p.m. | Benstead Theatre This adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s “Enemy of the People” is set in a small Wisconsin town in 1926. The play explores the issues of the environment, our democracy, and the role of the individual.

“Tartuffe,” by Molière | Feb 27- March 2, 2019 | 7:30 p.m. | Benstead Theatre Written by the French playwright in 1664, this is one of the most dangerous and controversial comedies of all time. A play of conmen, zealots, lovers and schemers written by the world’s acknowledged master of comedy. Friends of the Arts pre-show reception and discussion, 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28.

Chamber Music & Jazz Ripon Series Mark Davis Quartet | Friday, Sept 7, 2018 | 7:30 p.m. | Demmer Recital Hall Pianist Mark Davis has been a mainstay on the Milwaukee jazz scene for more than 25 years. His unique arrangements of jazz standards and originals will be performed by a group that includes other Milwaukee stalwarts Jeff Hamann, David Bayles and Jamie Breiwick.

Yo Soy la Tradición | Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 | 7:30 p.m. | Demmer Recital Hall The outstanding Spektral Quartet partners with multi-Grammy nominee and McArthur “genius grant” winner, saxophonist Miguel Zenón, for a suite inspired by Puerto Rican culture. Lush, melodic themes with complex rhythmic interactions blur the lines between jazz, classical and folk musics.

Caestecker Fine Arts Series: Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra | Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018 | 3:15 p.m. | Field House, Willmore Center Wisconsin’s largest cultural organization returns to Ripon College for its 46th appearance. Be our guest for this free performance presented as a thank-you to the community. Friends of the Arts pre-concert reception, 1:30-3 p.m., Willmore Center.

John Robert Green, baritone | Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019 | 7:30 p.m. | Demmer Recital Hall New York-based baritone John Robert Green has sung opera and oratorio around the United States and in Europe. His performances have won a variety of awards. He will be in Ripon in conjunction with the Ripon College Choral Festival.

All performances and exhibits are in C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts, except for the Sept. 30 Milwakee Symphony Orchestra concert.
