to me, all who are weary” : Rehousing the Christian Revivals for all wandering spirits Janet Lu /zl574 / B’Arch thesis From the “crying bench” of Charles Finney, to the tents of Southern Baptist Convention’s throughout towns of Texas, the architectural scenes around Christian revivals have always been temporary, itinerant and predominantly utilitarian. Although it is now more of a faded memory of the past to many, these revivals spread like wildfire throughout America and later abroad, changing countless lives and inspiring various meaningful social reforms along the way. How did these mundane and rudimentary spaces house the sacred and the spiritual? How did these structures, though temporary in nature, occupy the site and help permanently touch the souls of the revival goers? How might these relationships translate and adapt to the urbanscape of our time? How can a set of contemporary reimaginings of these revival continue to provide renewal and fellowship, not just among the spiritually secure, but also for the steadfastly secular?
