WhatanextraordinaryyearithasbeenatKCC!AsIreflectontheIBmissionandourjourneytogether,Iamfilledwithimmenseprideatwhatwehave achievedthisyearasaschoolcommunityandanIBschool.
AtKCC,ourcorevaluesofknowledge,courage,andconnectionserveasourguidingprinciples Throughouttheschool,wehavewitnessedthesevalues cometolife,bothinandoutsideoftheclassroom.IntheclassroomweseeourstudentscontinuetodevelopasIBlearnersactivelyseekingknowledge throughinquiry,makingconnections,andshowingthecouragetochallengethestatusquotobringaboutpositivechange.Beyondtheclassroom,wehave witnessedimpressiveprogressintheartsandwithoursportsprogramme.OurKCCCobrasarefastbecomingoneofthemaincompetitorsintheAbu Dhabisportscircuitandweareproudoftheirachievementsthisyear.
OurKCCcommunityhasflourishedthisyearandweareincrediblyfortunatetohavesuchasupportiveparentbody.Together,wehavecreatedadiverse andinclusiveenvironmentwhereourstudentscanbehappy,safe,andfeelasenseofbelonging.Ithasbeenayearoffirstswith eventssuchasUAENationalDay,InternationalDay,MawlidalNabawi,CommunityBazaar,andourCommunityIftar.Manypeople wereinvolvedinthesuccessofthesedaysfromourparentteam,SABmembers,andvolunteerparents.Thankyoufor contributingtotheseopportunitiesforourKCCcommunitytocometogether.

ThisyearwehaveworkedwiththecommunitytodisplayourKCCvalues:Knowledge,Courageand Connection.StudentsdemonstratedcourageonmanyoccasionssuchasduringtheirperformanceforMawlid alNabawi-theProphet’sbirthday(PeacebeUponHim),NationalDay,QuranCompetitionsandIslamic Exhibitions.Itwaslovelytoseesomanystudentsembracingandsharingtheirtraditions.
WesawstudentsconnecttotheirhomeculturethroughtheincredibleInternationalDay.Canyoubelievewe had44differentnationalitiesrepresented?Itwasdefinitelyoneofthehighlightsoftheyear.Wecelebrated MotherTongueDaywithreadingacrosstheschoolinalldifferentlanguages.WearethankfultoallofourKCC parentswhocameintoreadintheirmothertongue.Wecouldn'thavedonethiswithoutyou.
Thisyearwehavehadafocusonbuildingstrongliteracyknowledge.Thisknowledge hasbeencelebratedinmanydifferentformsatKCC.Fromourfocusinlanguage lessonstodevelopfluencyandaloveforreading,totheArabicbookfairand guestauthorvisits.Seeingchildrendevelopconfidenceintheirhome(and sometimesnewlanguages)hasbeenadelight.

Asthisyearcomestoanend,I’dliketoreflectupontheamazingprogressthatourstudentshave achievedthroughouttheacademicyearinIslamicandUAESS.AsaleaderforIslamicandUAESSIwas privilegedtooverseetheirdedicationandhardworktowardexcellenceinanenvironmentthat encouragesthemtoachievethebestoutcomesfromeachpossibility.Wehavebeenworkingtowards fulfillingthevisionoftheUAEfounder,HisHighnessSheikhZayedbinSultanAlNahyanasheoncesaid,“It ismydutyastheleaderoftheyoungpeopleofthiscountrytoencouragethemtoworkandtoexert themselvestoraisetheirstandardsandtobeofservicetothecountry.”
Studentswereencouragedtoseekknowledgewithsincerityandhumility,understanding thatitisameanstogetclosertoAllahandfulfilltheirpurposeinlife.Students approachedlearningwithanopenmindtoconnecttheiracademic knowledgewithIslamicprinciples,valuesandthelocalculture. Overall,studentswereprovidedwithacomprehensiveeducation thatequipsthemwithboththeknowledgeandvaluesnecessary tonavigatethecomplexitiesofthemodernworldwhileremaining rootedintheirfaith.Noneofthatwouldhavebeenpossible withoutourhardworking,caringteamthatI’mproudtoworkwith.
Asweapproachtheendoftheschoolyear,it’stimetoreflectontheincrediblejourneytheEYstudents havebeenonthisyear.Thestudentshavetrulyamazedusthisyear.Fromthefriendshipsthey’vebuiltto thelearningthey’vepresentedintheiractionpiecestotheexemplarybehaviourtheyhavedemonstrated onschooltrips.Ithasbeenajam-packedyearwithmanymemorablemoments!

ThishasbeenayearoffirstsforourEY1learners.Ayearfullofwonder,explorationandsuccess.Thechildren havebeenonajourneyintoinquiryandlearningthroughplay.Theymadeconnectionswithnewfriends andadults,learningabouttheimportanceofourcommunityandschool.Thelearnershavebeen thrivingthisyearastheylearnhowtoexpressthemselvesandcommunicateeffectively.They havelearnttofollowtheirinterests,becreative,thinkdeeply,askquestionsandbeinquirers. Overthepastyear,EY2hasbeenonanexcitingjourneyoflearning.Theyhavelearnttofollow theircuriosities,thinkcreatively,askquestions,investigate,carryoutresearchandpresenttheir findings.Ourknowledgeablelearnerswerethrilledtowelcomeparentsintoschooltosharetheir learning.

Asweapproachtheendofanotherincredibleacademicyear,wewanttoreflectontheremarkableaccomplishments andunforgettableexperiencesofourGrade1superstars.
In"WhoWeAre,"theycreatedvisionboards,showcasingtheircreativityandcriticalthinkingskillsthroughphysical collages,writtenexpressions,digitalcollages,orgraphicorganisers.During"SharingThePlanet,"ourlittle conservationistsbecameNationalGeographicpresenters,educatingothersaboutsurvival,foodchains,and conservation.Theyeffectivelycommunicatedtheirknowledgeandconnectedittoinformativetexts,emphasisingthe importanceofsustaininghabitats.In"HowTheWorldWorks,"ourGrade1scientistsandengineerssolvedproblemsby designingmaterialstohelpMsRachelreturntoschool.Theydevelopedinnovativesolutionsandcreatedcaptivating informationtextstosupporttheirdesignsandinventions.In"WhereWeAreinPlaceandTime,"studentscelebrated theirculturalheritagethroughcaptivatingiMovies,showcasingtheirindividuality anddeepeningtheirunderstandingoftheworld.Theyexpressedthemselvescreativelyusing colorsandpaintingstylesinspiredbyrenownedartists.
Wehadanincrediblefirst-everschooltriptotheAbuDhabiNationalAquarium, immersingstudentsinthewondersofmarinelifeandfosteringenvironmental conservationawareness.OurGrade1studentsalsoperformedintheirinaugural end-of-yearproduction,"Croak,"showcasingtheirtalent,dedication,andteamwork.
Throughouttheyear,theyconsistentlydemonstratedenthusiasm,creativity,and theabilitytoconsidermultipleperspectives,enrichingourclassroomcommunity.
Astheyeardrawstoaclose,Iamfilledwithimmenseprideandhappinessreflectinguponthesuccesses andgrowthofourPrimarystudentsatKCC.Ithasbeenayearfilledwithaccomplishments,unforgettable memories,andvaluablelearningexperiences.Thisyearhasbeenawhirlwindofactivity,withourstudents activelyparticipatinginvariouslearningexperiences,fieldtrips,sportscompetitions,andengaging communityevents.Theseexperienceshaveprovidedthemwithopportunitiestodeveloptheirknowledge, showcourageanddevelopmeaningfulconnections.
OneparticularhighlightoftheyearwasthehugesuccessoftheGrade5Exhibition,which markedtheculminationofourKCCstudents'PYPjourney.Theyconductedthorough research,developedmanyskills,andconfidentlypresentedtheirfindingstothe schoolcommunity.Itwasatrulyinspiringeventthatshowcasedthedepthof theirlearningandtheirabilitytotakeaction.
Iwouldliketoextendmygratitudeandthankstoourdedicatedand talentedstaff,aswellasoursupportiveparentswhohaveallplayed animportantroleinmakingKCCatrulywonderfulplacetolearn!

There’snotenoughroomheretomentionallthefabuloushighlightswehavehadinGrade2thisyear,butIwill sharethemostmemorable.Westartedofftheyearwithourunit,'WhoWeAre',whichprovidedusagreat opportunitytolearnaboutwhatitmeanstoworkcooperativelywithothersandwhat characteristicsmakeagoodleader.Thehighlightofthislearningwaswhenwewere abletohavesomeofourparentscomeinandsharewithushowthoseskillsare importantintherealworld.Inourunit,'HowWeExpressOurselves',welearntall aboutpatterns.Patternsinmaths,language,science…everywhere!Ouraction pieceforthisunitwasanincrediblePatternGallerythatthestudentscreated.

ManyofourUnitsofInquiryrequiredstudentstoutiliseanddeveloptheirresearchskills.
Throughouttheyear,theyhonedtheirskillsingatheringinformation,analysingsources,andpresentingtheirfindingswith confidence.PresentationswereahugepartofourcurriculumthisyearinGrade4.Studentsshowcasedtheirnewfound knowledgeandskillswithconfidenceandflair.Studentshadtheopportunitytocreatemultimediapresentationsand performances,aswellaspostersandspeeches,inwhichtheycaptivatedtheiraudienceandinspiredtheirpeers.Itwas superbtoseemanystudentsshowcasetheirtalentsandleadorparticipateinourgradelevelassemblies.
OneofourfavouriteUnitsofInquirywasourculturalunitwiththecentralideaofhow‘Culture isexpressedandinterpretedinmanyways’.Studentsexploreddifferenttraditions,customs, andcelebrations.Theygainedanunderstandingoftheimportanceofrespect,tolerance, andopen-mindednessthroughtheirculturalexhibitions,embracingtheunique perspectivesthateachcultureoffers.Ourculturalexhibitiondaywasahuge highlightforallstudentsthisyear!
AsGrade4drawstoacloseandourstudentspreparetotakethenextstepin theireducationaljourney,wewishthemalltheverybest.Weareimmensely proudoftheiraccomplishments.Grade4hasbeenawonderfulchapter,filled withunforgettablemoments,andstudentsarereadyandpreparedtotakeonthe challengesandadventuresofGrade5.

Attheendofthe2022-23schoolyear,Ifeelparticularlygratefulandglad,itwasourfirstfullyearasa separatesecondaryschool,withourownteachersandleadersfullyfocusedonmakingKCCasuccessful andthrivingcommunity.
PauloCoelho,inhisbookTheAlchemistwrote,‘Thereisonlyonethingthatmakesadreamimpossibleto achieve:thefearoffailure.”Andthiscanbethedifferencebetweenadreamerandadoer.Todomeans notjustdreaming,buttryingtofindwaystomakeyourdreamshappen.Wecanbeweigheddownby pre-existingbeliefsorgravitatetowardthesafetyofdoingthingsthesamewaysoasnottoriskfailing. Weoftenstickwiththingsweknow,believeorlike.But,ifyoudon’ttry,youwillnever knowifyoucanachieveabetteroutcomeorresult.

AstheLearningandTeachingLeadforCurriculumandAssessment,IheadedtheLumanitiesTeam,whichisaclusterof languageandhumanitiesrelatedsubjects.TheseincludetheMYPsubjectsofLanguageandLiterature(Englishand Arabic),LanguageAcquisition(French,SpanishandArabic),andIndividuals&Societies.UAESocialStudiesandIslamic StudiesarealsopartoftheLumanitiesteamcluster.Allofthesesubjectsshareacommonfocusthroughthestudyof humansocietiesandtheircultures.
Studentshavetheopportunitytoexploreideasthathelpthemunderstandtheworldtheylivein.Throughouttheirstudiesof thesesubjects,studentsareintroducedtopeopletheynevermet,placestheynevervisitedandideasthatmayhavenever crossedtheirminds.ThisisdonethroughvariousliterarytextsinbothEnglishandArabic,thehistoryandcultureofvarious civilisationsandsocietiesdiscussedinIndividuals&Societies,andinUAESocialStudies,aswell asthelinguistictrends,culturalpracticesandtraditionsofthedifferentArabic,French,and Spanishspeakingcountries.Furthermore,inIslamicstudies,studentsexploretheteachings beliefs,practices,andsacredtextsofIslam,consideringhowtheyinfluencethelivesof MuslimsandMuslimsocietiesthroughouttheworld.
Oneofthemainfocusesofmyrolethisyearhasbeentoensureconsistencyinthe deliveryofthecurriculum,makingsurethatallsubjectsarealignedwiththeMYP subjectguidelines.Ahugeundertakingthisyearwasthedevelopmentofthe unitsforallgrades,makingsurethatstudents’learningisproperlyscaffolded inpreparationfortheDiplomaProgramme.Additionally,wefocusedoncreating authenticassessments,whicharerelevanttotherealworldanddevelopstudents’ real-lifeskillsandunderstandingoftheworldoutsideoftheclassroom.Weare excitedtocontinuetheworknextyearinfurtherdevelopingthecurriculumand helpingGrade10studentstransitionintotheDiplomaProgramme.
