PRIMARY SCHOOL - NEPAL Post-earthquake rebuilding + expansion a community driven pilot project Community enpowerment - Over years, villagers had somehow deviated from the vernacular technique of construction and have developed a false faith over the strength of cement. Without proper masonary bonds or proper reinforcements or in certain cases just plastering externally with cement, they believe will make the building stand. We tried to highlight the potential of the local resources, trained the villagers and spread the knowledge through involvement of the community. Local resources Bamboo as a cheaper substitte of timber came from the village, is used for truss, columns, lintels and window jaalis.

Bamboo reinforcement is used for the RCC tie-beams at sill level and plinth level. Stones from the local mountains, riverside and from the dug foundation were used for the laying of foundation and wall below sill level.

DOUBLE OR NOTHING Competition entry for Wettbewerb ZHAW Campus T- Winterthur, Switzerland Competition was based around the strategic development of a university campus in Zurich, Switzerland. The competition was limited only to the design of the two main blocks and the landscape design of the campus taking into account the future phases. The main challenging part of the design competition was the programme structure provided. The two blocks had to accomodate a mix of workshops, laboratories, offices and the study zones. In addition to all these, the priority was marked by the clear distinction between the people and goods circulation, and the provision of sufficient common meeting areas per floor.

The ruin castle of Mothe Chandeniers with the intervention

COMMON RUINS Transforming a castle ruin into a cutting edge tourist destination Young

Architects

Competition - January’2019

Brief - In order to protect and safegaurd the international artistic heritage, YAC invited designers to highlight the natural facination of the castle in order to transform it into a desitination of contemplation and relax for tourists and visitors from all over the world. Through design, following questions need to be addressed: How to transform a ruin into a cutting edge tourist-accommodation facility? How to make a neo-gothic shell communicate with contemporary architecture? A visitor center aiming at ensuring a unique, spiritual & regenerating hospitality experience.

with proposed functional layout Service entry for Restaurant

The concept focuses on the interventions based on the historical values and a value assessment to bring back the heyday or the golden era of the castle and the site and to have contemporary use of it. The design is inspired by the historical evidences and available information focusing on the romantic aspect and tries to connect the nature with the ancient and the contemporary interventions.

Bio-Farm unit

The visitor’s centre is proposed underground at the entrance to not hamper the view of the castle and makes it more grand with each descent. The structural system also act as panels where historic information of the Castle can be displayed to make it a live narration of the history for the spectator.

The amphitheatre has the view of the Castle with cascading water at the backdrop of the stage. The pleasant serene view can bring the memories of Poet Leonard walking in these gardens with more than 300 lemon and orange trees surrounding the theatre.

Chapel Car Parking

Castle of Mothe Chandeniers Car Parking

Two trees in the castle have been retained and the glass structure on the castle would have light vegetation on it which not only covers the glass but also reminds of the Romantic past associated with the castle. The castle is a part of the historical route and houses permanent and temporary exhibition spaces, a ballroom and a bookstore cafe, keeping in mind the library that existed here before the fire.

Post the consolidation work, new additions are made to the castle, keeping in mind that it does not overpower the neo-Gothic beauty but at the same time ensures the proper use in the present day. A lightweight glass and steel structure inspired by the original roof, as observed from the old photographs is proposed. This proposal emphasizes on the contemporary construction while respecting the old forms and proportion. The material being transparent gives a kind of invisibility but also makes the castle capable of being used.

RAWANDA CHAPEL A chapel to be built as the expression of the faith of a community Young

Architects

Competition - June’2019

Brief -Community of Rukomo in Rawanda, that has overcome moments of deep & great sorrow, the scars of such history still remind people of the indefference & apathy affecting the “First World”. YAC invited designers to degin a place of peace & conciliation where to celebrate or meditate, to be united in the longing for eternity. A detailed program was given specific to a chapel such as of a bell tower, Parvis, Sacristy, ambo, choir area etc. and possiblility for the larger gaertherings.

PROJECT PROFILE: Project: Rawanda Chapel Site Location: Rukomo village, Rwanda Design Team: Rishabh Sharma, Ramya, Brett, Rahul Climate: Temperate tropical highland climate

The altar is portrayed with nature as its backdrop putting it at a constant flux and defining the place of revel tion of the divine. It also guides the devotees to their path within the Chapel as it is positioned on the central axis. The main altar represents the silence in the roaring glow of sunlight. Into the darkness and light, both mutually dependent and yet so far away from each other.

The expressive tectonic character given by the usage of locally available materials, a sublime handling of the light and the simple treatment of the space.

The chapel follows a traditional design inspite of its contemporary approach. The bell tower and the Cross placed not only become the visible signs from the valley and around, but also calling the community of believers. The designed space diminishes the boundary between the interior and exterior, blending into the nature outside. The first reception space is a semi-sunken patio on one side of the axsis and the existing cloister on the other. The cloister is carefully enclosed within new perforated walls, giving it a more private space for the nuns.

TAZIO NUVOLARI MUSEUM Laurea Magistrale 1st Studio work/ 2016-2017 The project was based around the strategic development of a Museum within historic pheriphery of Mantua, Italy at Piazza Martiri di Belfiore. The circulation around the museum was designed as race track with different phases of Tazio’s career life. Also at the same revealing the surrounding heritage. Different aspects were studied related to the site, immediate context and the city.
