Siem reap camping tour

Thanks to the 1998 integration of all the Khmer Rouge forces into those of the government, it is now a possibility for you to go camping in Cambodia. Projects of demining have been undertaken around Cambodia in an attempt to foster rural development and open new grounds for tourist. Beng Mealea Temple was demined in early 2000 and consequently chosen as a shoot location for a movie starring Indiana Jones.

Years ago in 2001, our team ventured out on a search for possible tour of Koh Ker. The 100km journey from Siem to Koh Ker took us 2 days by pickup truck. Our pickup had to wade through the muddy terrain of the jungle. We kept pushing the pickup and it barely moved. The truck took an entire hour to complete a mere 1km distance.

The scenario is however completely different now. A lot has changed three years afterwards, temple at Koh Ker has undergone demining and a road has also been constructed to enable people access it. Preah Khan Temple Situated 100km east of Siem Reap along the ancient 'Route 66' Angkorian highway,

Preah Khan is a beautiful and serene place to stay in. The temple is seldom visited by other tourists owing to its remote location in the depth of the Cambodian jungle. The camp is situated just outside the entrance of the temple, you will get to enjoy ice cold drinks and a great barbecue as you watch the sunset behind the temple arch.

Kulen Mountain The sacred Kulen Mountain will provide you with an unforgettable overnight stay.

You can spend the night in raised wooden huts, tents, and even in hammocks by the riverside, it all boils down to your choice and preference. Following a visit to the temples at the mountain tops and meeting with the local monks, you will go down the mountainside to view the sacred river bed carvings. You can cool off the heat of the afternoon by swimming in the Mountain Rivers and waterfalls before heading back to the camp for a barbecue dinner which is eaten around a fire.

Koh Ker Koh Ker is made up of a complex of 180 temples far into the jungle. These temples are connected together by dirt roads and tracks which make it easier and fun for you to explore the temples as the sun is going down. We will camp next to Prasat Thom, the 'pyramid' temple, putting up our tents and hammocks under the trees around a fiercely burning campfire.

Mekong River Island This is a Laos Border Camp situated on a private beach in the heart of the Mekong River. It is so close to Laos, only 100m away. While our team is attending to the task of setting up a great campsite, you will go on a boat ride to a Laos village (you don't require a passport for this whatsoever!). You will also visit Mekong rapids and get a chance to catch a glimpse of the rare Irrawadee river dolphin. You will then be taken back to the camp where you can enjoy a sunset deep into the river as well as a great barbecue around a bellowing campfire.
