Industrial Pollution alone counts as one of the most dirty contributors to climate change. Government initiatives are undoubtedly geared towards ‘industrialization at any cost’ model. MoEF is now known as the ‘clearance ministry’. Mundra, Singrauli, Surat, Ankleshwar, Vapi are reeling under extreme toxic influence, gently reminding us the horrors of Bhopal that was not just an accident but a collective failure of ‘safeguards mechanism’ of this country. Recently, mercury dumping by Hindustan Lever in Kodaikanal sparked people’s outrage all over the country. It proved that people still want a stronger environmental governance and mechanism. CEJI is formed with the objective to challenge existing legislations and new amendments that try to dilute the already lackadaisacal approach to environment instead of strengthening them. CEJI specially tries to focus on research and intervention in the process of environmental clearances that is central to the industry – environment debate.
