October Newsletter A Good Parent! Being a parent is one of the most fulfilling experiences a person can have. The most important thing a parent can give their child, however, is a sense of being loved. Just keep in mind that you don't have to be infallible to be a "perfect" parent. 1. Express your Love and Affection Love your children unconditionally; don't force them to be who you think they should be in order to earn your love. Let them know that you will always love them no matter what.
The Grade Fours Have Pen Pals!! Rainbow International Sc hool and Futuraskolan International School of Sweden have teamed up! Our grade 4 students are exchanging letters with their international friends via a pen pal program. The pen pal program is a fun way to give our students real-life lessons in Social Studies, Language Arts, Geography, Internationalism a n d m o r e . T h e p e n p a l relationships will provide valuable practice at letter writing, increase awareness of other societies and cultures, and provide an opportunity for our students to
develop lifelong friendships with people who live far away. Maybe one day they will even get a chance to meet in person! After penning their first letters, the grade 4s walked to the post office to personally mail their letters to their pals. Luckily, our Pen Pal letters arrived from Sweden first! That meant that the grade fours got to pick their pen pals first. They randomly chose a letter by picking from a "mail bag." Our pen pals not only wrote detailed letters, they also sent along oil paintings they had made about life in Sweden. It was an exciting morning!!
2. Praise your children Avoid comparing your children to others, especially siblings. Each child is individual and unique. Celebrate their differences and instill in each child the desire to pursue their interests and dreams. Failure to do so may give your child an inferiority complex, an idea that they can never be good enough in your eyes. 3. Listen to them Create an atmosphere in which they can come to you with a problem however large or small. 4. Be a Role Model Young kids are like sponges, they notice everything. As parents we are our children's first role model. Pay attention to what you say or do around them and think about what kind of example you are making.
Character Word of the Month - Fairness Play by the rules • Take turns and share • Be open-minded; listen to others • Don’t take advantage of others • Don’t blame others carelessly • Treat all people fairly Think of dividing an orange into equal sections to share fairly with friends

Feel safe and secure When children feel safe and secure, they learn to trust other people. Children who don't feel safe can be anxious and unhappy. This can affect their health and learning. But when they learn that they can trust the adults around them, it helps them grow up happy, healthy and to enjoy the world around them. Firstly, we make children feel safe by meeting their basic needs. But we also make them feel safe by showing them that we love them.
